Gionni Paul

We truly blaming the staff for idiot players that couldn't keep themselves out of trouble. This board is really in need of serious clean up

Maybe a player here and there. But losing 30 of 70 recruits in a 3 year period is a sign of bigger problems. It's like a self imposed sanction that's impossible to overcome. In no setting anywhere in America is it normal to have almost 50% attrition except for BUDS(navy seal school).

When people nationally speak of how the NCAA affected our recruiting, this is what they mean. Yes, Golden found quality players. Yes, we were able to sign them here because other programs had red flags on them for character issues. Some of them have worked out. Many did not. Those linebackers alone would make all the difference in the world with our two deep, but they all had issues off the field, unrelated to football, that forced them to leave the university. It is silly to keep bringing these guys up.

Nope, not buying it. Every 18 year old has problems. Especially the alpha male star athlete type. Foldens inability to manage personalities, or to recognize who he can manage caused the attrition. As a recruiter, getting the kids to put pen on paper, is meaningless if they're gone within 24 months. This guy is just flinging **** on the wall, totally out of his league.

Per an old 80's Navy personnel report (NPRDC SR 81-13) BUD/S has about a 65% attrition rate historically...Obviously, the "feed stock" may have improved due to the movies, books, and press accounts over the years...In fact, former members of the SOF community have accused a Navy Special Warfare leader (See McRaven, Admiral, one each) of not adhering to the "quiet professional" mantra of SOF.

Starts with the HC. HC is responsible for player development.

This. Golden should hire proper position coaches and coordinators. It's like a CEO hiring an accountant with a poor track record then shifting the blame to the accountant. Starts at the top

This, and Golden's in charge of keeping the players heading in the right direction. He's had a lot of LB's kicked off the team for rules violations. A lot of that is on the players but it also is directly on the HC for not leading these young men better.

Paul is making the best of his second opportunity. Good for him. I saw him play Thursday night, he was fantastic.

Shannon was bashed when Arthur Brown transferred and ended up being an All-American. We only bash the coaches for the ones that succeed yet we never applaud them for the ones that continue their nonsense elsewhere. Initially, it could well be a combination of maturity and development, but you can't develop without the maturity and focus. If football is a way out for a lot of these kids, then once the entitlement goes away and they have soured their initial opportunity perhaps this is when the maturity kicks in. Paul and Brown got it. Willie Williams didn't.

Our LB play and development hasn't been good for 10 years. Side note, if I had to play for corch D, I'd probably get blacked out smoking weed too. Need to do something to number the pain of listening to his ignorant ***.

I don't blame golden for lack of player development. That's the got **** reason we have position coaches. Any level headed person can see that. I DO blame golden for inability to change those position coaches.

Gionni Paul, LB, Utah: It's time to start recognizing the quality of this Utah defense. The front seven has been sturdy this season. On Thursday, the Utes allowed only 4.7 yards per play against Oregon State. They also recorded five more sacks, pushing their conference-best total to 33. Most importantly, the defense was again fundamentally sound across the board, so let's put a sticker on Paul's helmet -- he led the unit with 14 tackles.

That's not the head coach of Utahs doing. That's his position coach teaching him the right thing to be instinctual.

You realize that Paul was the 3rd leading tackler on the team in 2012 as a true sophomore with 61. He started 6 games and missed 3 due to injury. He was developing into a very good linebacker. He started 6 games.

does anyone know what Paul actually did to get kicked off the team? we all know about eddie and gabe, but i've never heard someone say exactly what happened with Paul and of course the school won't release information about that. I kinda got the feeling Paul was intentionally released to make room for a bigger recruiting class bc the staff weren't as high on him.

This should have been our starting LBs this year...

In 2012 when these 3 were 2, 3, & 4 on the team in total tackles.
Denzel (Soph) 64 tackles, 6 TFL, 1 Int, 3 PD, 1 FF
Paul (Soph) 61 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2 PD, 1 FF
Johnson (RFresh) 59 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 Int, 3 PD, 3 FF

Eddie was the best of the bunch...

Figs, Armbrister, Grace, Tery, & Kirby off the bench
Juwon and Owens should be redshirting this year and contributing next year when Denzel and Paul graduates.

I can personally guarantee that. If you doubt. Come see me in the 801.
