Georgia is not Miami

I understand the trepidation that some have with Richt. Why didn't he win it all at UGA? They sure appeared to have plenty of talent. If he couldn't do it there, what makes anyone think he can do it here?

Keep this in mind: Georgia is NOT Miami. Don't listen to espn or the rest of the media or the sec lovers or anyone out there. Listen to the facts and the facts say this....

In the last 31 years Miami has won 5 national championships with 4 different coaches and played for and lost at least 3 other national championships. In that time span Georgia has won 0 national championships with 4 different coaches. Not only that, they haven't even played for a national championship in that time span. Think about that. In that time span Miami has played for a national championship over 25% of the time and Georgia 0% of the time.

Despite all the bs about facilities and crowds etc, Miami does and always will present a unique opportunity to win and win big. We're not down because college football changed. We're down because we hired Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, and Al Golden. Those guys were all awful head coaches. Coker is coaching UTSA, Shannon is a position coach (can't even get a dc job) and Golden is Golden. Mark Richt presents a major upgrade. He can recruit, he can develop players, and he's a guru on the offensive side of the ball. Someone else (WTH I believe) posted that all of our coaches have had their most success at Miami. It's a great point and totally true. There's no reason not to expect the same with Richt and if that's the case we're going to be piling up a lot of W's. Fellas....we're back.

Just got me really excited

I don't know why Richt didn't win it all at UGA but he had plenty of talent. Maybe it wasn't the right mix of talent but he had plenty of it.

without Richt, Ga was a bottom feeder in the SEC! with him they are still not elite. Only program in SEC that's Elite is Alabama and Florida. The next level is LSU, Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn. Guy can win at UM. He has a better record then Vince Dooley at Georgia! Yes Vince won the their only title, but that's it. Guy was major for them.

SEC teams win titles with SFLA athletes.

He could not get enough of them at GA.

He will get them all at Miami.

Jimmy couldn't beat Oklahoma before he came here and Boom! I think Richt will have a similar effect. I couldn't be happier!!

Jimmy did not have top recruits at OK State. Richt had Top recruit at UGA and UF and Bama Field raped him with no Vaseline!

They did it after they hired Urban and Saban, two of the best coaches in college football. Richt will do well at Miami.

Richt took Georgia as far as that program can go....there is a ceiling.

Sky is the limit at Miami.

Your a 100% right. Coaches dont leave here and win ships at any other school. They just dont.

We dont need Saban to be Alabama. We need a good coach who can lock it down. Its been proven time and time again.

People want to act like Butch was some god, but the truth is he aint, never was and never will be. He was an avg coach who locked it down in Miami and reaped the rewards. Good coaches don't fail every place they go after they leave Miami.

Jimmy was the only genius coach we have ever had.

Richt has proven that he is **** sure a good coach who can lock it down.

I live in the ATL and people don't understand how this area is incredibly hard to recruit because we have every freaking big fish SEC school in our backyards at every single game. Georgia is the redneck school and its a very polarizing school because of that with the youths. Richt has done an incredible job to keep the kids in state and to cherry pick other top notch kids from elsewhere.

If he has that type of success with locking down Miami its a done deal. And why shouldn't he? He is a very believable and honest guy who has a track record of being a solid character guy. There are no doubts about that. He can walk into any kids home in SFL and be trusted by those parents. If they don't know about his history already when he lays down what he does in his personal life with his mission trips and the children he has adopted and his overall work in the community the parents will not question whether he is laying on the BS. He is not a used car salesman. Also when he tells those kids that the old Miami is about to be back they are going to believe him. He also brings in the mystique of the SEC.

These complainers are just mad that Butch didn't get hired and are acting like a bunch of emotional biatches. They likely complain about every single aspect of their lives. I for one hope they just stop being Miami fans because we aint got room for negativity right now. This program is finally on the up.

I agree with what's said here. Question though, you don't think Butch would've been the better hire?

Butch was my first choice. The knock on on butch from alot of people was his game day coaching. How does Richt compare to butch in game day coaching? Is it something that's even thought of, or talked about from uga side?

no and neither does any other school in the country.

Butch has never proven he can win outside of Miami, Richt has.

Richt has also been in top recruits homes every single year for the past 15 (and then some) and he has current established relationships with high school programs and coaches from around the country. Richt has even opened up some areas that the SEC has dominated in.

You can argue who is a better game day coach to death but you cannot argue that Richt is in a better place to pick up recruiting at a top notch level than just about any other coach we would have gotten.

That's the big win here. Sure Richt comes with a name and an image that will work well for the school and for getting top notch assistants on board and will help sell recruits going forwards who had doubts about the legitimacy of the current Miami program. But this dude is already dialed in. There is no learning curve for Richt. He has recruited this area and all of Florida really well. If he adds a Mario to his staff it could force Saban to start thinking about the NFL again.

Better. Much better. Every coach has some gaffes, but for the most part Richt's decision making in-game is pretty logical.

People keep mentioning this, and I'm all for it. I'd like to know, perhaps from those who were a little older than I in the early 80s, when Jimmy officially transitioned to 'revolutionizing' the way defense was played.
