I understand the trepidation that some have with Richt. Why didn't he win it all at UGA? They sure appeared to have plenty of talent. If he couldn't do it there, what makes anyone think he can do it here?

Keep this in mind: Georgia is NOT Miami. Don't listen to espn or the rest of the media or the sec lovers or anyone out there. Listen to the facts and the facts say this....

In the last 31 years Miami has won 5 national championships with 4 different coaches and played for and lost at least 3 other national championships. In that time span Georgia has won 0 national championships with 4 different coaches. Not only that, they haven't even played for a national championship in that time span. Think about that. In that time span Miami has played for a national championship over 25% of the time and Georgia 0% of the time.

Despite all the bs about facilities and crowds etc, Miami does and always will present a unique opportunity to win and win big. We're not down because college football changed. We're down because we hired Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, and Al Golden. Those guys were all awful head coaches. Coker is coaching UTSA, Shannon is a position coach (can't even get a dc job) and Golden is Golden. Mark Richt presents a major upgrade. He can recruit, he can develop players, and he's a guru on the offensive side of the ball. Someone else (WTH I believe) posted that all of our coaches have had their most success at Miami. It's a great point and totally true. There's no reason not to expect the same with Richt and if that's the case we're going to be piling up a lot of W's. Fellas....we're back.

Jimmy couldn't beat Oklahoma before he came here and Boom! I think Richt will have a similar effect. I couldn't be happier!!

OP is 100% spot on. On top of that, Richt BUILT the UGA program from nothing. In the 15 years before he got there, UGA reached 10 wins only twice and were .500 or below 5 times. In his 15 years, they have won at least 10 games 9 times (maybe 10 if they win their bowl game) and had only one sub .500 season.

Here at the U, he'll have more talent and play in an easier conference. We're back.

Exactly

Athens is not Miami.............GEOGRAPHICALLY

He misses on a Georgia recruit and there are maybe a few others he has as backup

He misses on a recuit here and he has 15 players behind that one that can step in (as long as he doesn't Golden and primarily recruit New Jersey)

When the New AD came in at UGA he and richt were never on the same page. He didn't want to spend money early on. That's why just know there getting an IPF

The biggest pro to the Richt hire is we will start dumping more money into the program. Richt will expect it to be run like an SEC program and I bet we agreed to that in meeting the other day.

Plus Richt helped raise a ton of money for UGA football - WE HAVE THE MONEY FOLKS - WE JUST HAVEN'T HAD LEADERSHIP AT THE TOP.

Paul Dimare, Schwartz, and Miller deserve a lot of credit for pony-ing up the bucks.

Thank God Shalala is gone - what a poison she was.

Truth.

Even though I was on the Butch bandwagon I love this hire. It shows me that we're finally willing to step up and write a check for a good coach. I'm very interested in who the staff will be, especially DC. For the first time in a while I'm actually excited about the next few years.

Good post, and yes I was the one to say that. Miami is always going to give a coach a boost just because of the freakish amount of talent in the tri-county area.

Every coach that's ever coached at Miami has had their most success here (college wise, of course) by a large margin. Richt may have brought in good classes according to some recruiting services, but he is going to have the chance to build a roster of mostly Florida kids that brings an overall level of talent that's hard to replicate anywhere else.

Miami amplifies a coaches talent. Miami is like Super Mario eating a star of the coaching world.

Homerun thread! The synergy of Richt and UM should be additive. He brings to the table EXACTLY the things you want in a coach in Coral Gables. UM recruits itself if you teach football and win. That is Mark Richt's bread and butter. Nevermind the fact that his path to the playoffs is now MUCH easier. He's had to try and go through two HOF coaches in his time at UGA. And even so he only had losing records to one program in all of the SEC. UF. And he's 4-4 against UF against coaches not named Spurrier or Meyer.

And people are quick to say he didn't win it all and maybe I give him too much credit but he was the lone play caller in two fsu championships if my memory serves me correctly and that is pretty impressive to me compared to these last three coaches we've had

Nicely done. I am almost feeling it. Still hard to get over the Butch high. Keep trying.

Howard did say the only thing stopping Miami from winning NCs was coaching. Mark is a good coach. It should work. But dang it is hard to think about the team Butch would have gathered. I'm trying.

Say what you want about our facilities and home crowds, this is a gem of a job to come in and win big quick. It's located in the most fertile recruiting area in the world and were in the ACC Coastal. If the team is put together correctly, we should be one game away (ACC Championship game) from the final 4 every year.

Our hat is going to be put on now at the signing table instead of being picked up and flipped aside. Let that soak in. This is going to be a fun recruiting year.
