I’m going to find the quotes

He was absolutely referred to as #1 on our board either by Mario or by the insiders here giving us info

You can pull quotes, but I specifically was told by multiple people that he wasn't our highest priority during his entire recruitment. We may have circled back late due to missing on other guys, but he was rumored to have suspect hands and thus would make a better DB over time.

This is where people lose credibility and then wonder why fans talk **** to them

I don’t even need to pull quotes honestly. I just remember. There’s like a 20,000 post thread about him full of news about him. He visited campus about 100 times

If people wanna act now like Mario and co knew something about him that no one else did, and our coaches are the smartest in the room, then they can do that

It’s a lie though

I don’t personally care because I don’t take anyone’s word all that seriously here, but I don’t like hypocrites

Iirc, I don’t ever remember an All out push for Hykeem. His recruitment much to my dismay seemed lukewarm and just going thru the motions. I was kind of upset we let him go to fsu without a real push. I get it now, as many thought he was overrated. I guess Miami’s lukewarm push is justified now.
Miami didn’t like what the saw once the dig further than the Measurements. Williams was is still Very Raw Prospect coming from another sport. No one can take that he is a Great Athlete/but can he actually play football?

I know the thread you are talking about, it's over 100 pages.

And I know what I was told. In fact, one of those people just texted me to tell me that I'm correct. We only circled back to Hykeem when it became clear we were not goign to flip Innis.

I believe what you’re saying

I think you understand what I’m getting at while we talked about Hykeem here for months…**** maybe a year I don’t think a single person was in there saying how we weren’t recruiting him

It was the opposite

So it’s just kind of convenient for some people to act now like there’s a super secret level of insiders that are beyond the normal insiders who have the real information after the fact

It’s just a common theme with recruiting in general and it’s just annoying

I agree. Hykeem was talked about for months.

I can't speak to "insiders" and "levels of insiders". But there were definitely folks who knew that Hykeem was not the primary plan, and he was moved up from "backup plan" status at the very end of recruiting.

It definitely all tracks. I remember the timeline with his recruitment

I could go on a rant about the hanger-ons with recruiting information people selling second hand info all the time

But I won’t. People ether know or they dont and I don’t wanna hear anymore spin about it

What do you think our biggest needs are right now?

3 instant impact freshman WRs would be crazy to rely on immediately
Relying on them is one thing and also defining the word impact. Because if you're expecting three of them to be different makers consistently yeah then I think you're probably sending them up for failure. But contributing I think that's realistic assuming there gave opportunity

I do seem to recall that happening as well. The board was mad for not going harder after guys in our backyard, I think the top 3 local and all 5* at some point were Hykeem Williams, Innis and Jalen Brown. We all assumed we would end up with 1 by default. We recruited the **** out of Innis, that was also the class Jurion ****ey was in and I think he was our #1 on the board, remember they went all out for him.

I think that was also the year we tried getting Tyler Williams from lakeland. We had a ton of feelers out and we 100% pushed for Hykeem at the end but it was a plan B. Overall it was a weak WR class, looking back at the final rankings now:

1. Zachariah Branch
2. ****ey
3. Williams
4. Jontay Cook
5. Brandon Innis
6. Jalen Hale
7. Makai Lemon
8. Noah Rogers
9. Carnell Tate
10. Ryan Niblett

I think sometimes the "bad eval" needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I dont think anyone on the board would be happy not targeting a top 10 WR but on this list was there a very good eval? Lemon may be the best of the bunch to date.

They missed, but that factor didn't help. My point was it's not like there wasn't an attempt lol.
You’re missing the crux of the issue by defining it as a “factor”. Bottom line is we are never buttoned up and prepared to act decisively, always reactive and scrambling (Beck after Mateer, poor QB room, etc).

You’re right. Hakeem was clearly a want. We wanted him and we were trying for him up until the final night
