I think Harvin was aided by the offensive system he was in. Not that he wasn't a great player but it helped a ton. It was a lot of speed in space.

Toney put up those numbers, as a freshman, in an offense that was centered around LOS battles and grinding out drives. It's like megatron at Ga Tech. A dude so good that he defies the offense he's in.

I think after this year it's not going to be a debate. I think Toney is going to go bananas.

Meyer used Harvin like Holtz used Rocket Ismail, finding countless ways to get them the ball off what was essentially a veer offense.

Wow. I didn't realize it was that one sided in favor of Malachi. To hear it from gator fans, guys like Kadarius Toney and Percy Harvin were all-time great college football players. Then, you start doing some research and realize they did not put up jaw dropping numbers. Kadarius had one good year (Senior year) and Harvin had one good year (Sophomore year) although Harvin also put up modest numbers his freshman and junior years.

Seriously, go back and look what Harvin did compared to Duke Johnson. Johnson trounces him every year but their sophomore year. Johnson also missed the last 5 games of his sophomore year. Johnson plays a full season and their total yds from scrimmage are probably very close. I'd still give the edge to Harvin for their sophomore years. That was a great season for him.

Now go and compare the stats of Harvin and Reggie Bush for their respective freshman-junior years if you want a good laugh. Harvin isn't even in the same stratosphere, but UF fools acting like he's right up there with him. Harvin one of the best of all time.... GTFOH with that nonsense.

Somehow, this gimmick offense worked very well. I have to give credit to Meyer for getting the most out of Tebow and those guys. None of them did anything at the next level in the NFL, they had no talent. Maybe Harvin a little bit, but mainly as KO returner on special teams.

As for Harvin....he was great, but very overrated. Duke Johnson was way better than him.

Hold on, I am all for some good ole fashioned Gator-bashing...but "no talent"? Both their wide receivers had decent NFL careers, Aaron Hernandez was a monster (on and off the field), both Pouncey brothers...

If you want to judge "talent" off NFL career success, that's fine I guess, but calling Tim Tebow and Chris Rainey untalented is crazy work, even for a Canes message board.

Let me clarify. UF's skill players are not untalented, but their "talent" or skill set was vastly overrated by the college football world, including many on here. I wasn't including the Pouncey brothers when I was referring to Meyer getting the most out of "those guys." I was mainly talking about their skill players. Let's take a look

Tebow - not talented. Very hard worker and disciplined. Meyer definitely made him
Harvin - he was very good and talented, but not a true running back or receiver. Meyer got the most out of him. I just don't think he's a top 100 player all time.
Brandon James - fast and quick, not very good
Chris Rainey - another fast guy. not good
Hernandez - he was good. Probably their most talented and best football player.
Riley Cooper - not good. No talent.

What receivers are you referring to that had decent NFL careers? Harvin and Cooper? I would say Harvin was a disappointment for all his hype of the "most electric player in college football history." He finished his NFL career with just over 4,000 yards and 22 TD's. I guess that is decent. Cooper had just over 2,400 yds for his career. That's not decent.

The more I think about it, Percy Harvin might be one of the most overrated college football players of all time. He was a great player, no argument here, but he's not even in the top 100 offensive players of all time. Duke was better than him and nobody on here thinks Duke is top 100. I can name 100 offensive players easily better than Harvin
