Tears Gator Tears

A long, long time ago, I can still remember
How recruiting used to make Gators smile
And I knew if UM had a glimmer
Dennis would post the Ibis pic on Twitter
And then Canes could be happy and smile

But March & April made me shiver
With every blue chip they'd deliver
Bad news on the Gators' feed
As they claimed the recruiting lead
I can't remember if I cried
For the 5-star OL on the inside
Or the 4-star QB we denied
The day the Gator class died

So, bye, bye, class that's in the Top Five
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
And them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die"

Did alums fund the Collective?
And do kids have faith in the NIL bid
If Hugh Hathcock tells them so?
Do they believe the Gator DFO?
Can Twinblade save their mortal soul?
And can Sumrall teach us how to talk real slow?

Well, I know that they're in love with him
'Cause I saw them lifting weights in the gym
They finally finished up The Gauntlet
While sporting gear from Tangier Outlet
I was a Gator-hatin' mother****
With a trial subscription, faking Gator-cuck
But I knew the Gates were short a buck
The day the Gator class died

I started singin', "Bye-bye, class that's in the Top Five"
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
Them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die"

Now for ten years they've been trending down
Taking fat linemen likely to drown
But that's not how it used to be
When Mr. 2 Bits sang for the king and dame
At the (not quite) sold out big Spring Game
The Gator fans got hard and almost came

And though Slingblade was a major clown
Twinblade Jon stole his thorny crown
As the Gator fans' stomachs churned
The fundraising pleas were spurned
And while Philo tried to learn offense
Fans reverted to a kneejerk defense
And they made excuses so intense
The day the Gator class died

They were singin', "Bye-bye class that's in the Top Five"
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
Them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye
Singin', "This'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die"

"I Won't Back Down" in the spring game swelter
The bats flew off looking for better shelter
Eight losses and likely to finish last
Football landed dead on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
While Sumrall begs for a spring Portal class

Now, the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the Gators played a marching tune
They all got up to sing
But they'll never win a ring
'Cause the players tried to take the field
Bent like when Ned Beatty kneeled
Do you recall how that pig squealed
The day the Gator class died?

They started singin', "Bye-bye, class that's in the Top Five"
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
Them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye
And singin', "This'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die"

Oh, and there they were, all in one spot
A fanbase in desperate need of pot
No time left for copium again
So come on, Baugh be nimble, Baugh be quick
Drake Stubbs sat on a candlestick
'Cause field goals are the Gator's only friend

Oh, and as they watched Twinblade try to engage
Their hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in ****
Could fix that A.D. hiring fail
And as the team struggled with its blight
Trying so hard just to run plays right
They saw Kirby laughing with delight
The day the Gator class died

Sumrall was singin', "Bye-bye, class that's in the Top Five"
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
Them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye
And singin', "This'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die"

Met a Gator fan who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just frowned and turned away
I went down to the Gator merch store
Where I'd heard football laughter years before
But the man said the Gator's defense couldn't play

And in the streets, the fans all screamed
The alums cried and the boosters dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The Swamp seats all were broken
And the three men they admire most
The Urban, Steve, and Tebow Ghost
Each chose to be an ESPN host
The day the Gator class died

And they were singin', "Bye-bye, class that's in the Top Five"
Drove recruits to Payne's Prairie, but The Prairie was dry
And Them good old Gates were drinkin' whiskey 'n Rye

Love it!!! Amazing job, and thank you for the timeliness! The Stricklin dig is my favorite part, of course.

Just an FYI though, Paynes Prairie has no apostrophe in it. I always found that odd, because it is named after King Payne from the Seminole Tribe, but Micanopy is an interesting place. They do have a Pulitzer though, and I don't, so far be it for me to question them.

Or, you know, 4-3...
I went looking for other old Gator posts and found this one where @Cajuncane called me a Gator troll. 🤣 🤣 🤣

The Auburn fanbase is "seething" for whiffing on Sumrall. Did Blue-Balls Gator really post that? He must be confusing Sumrall with Lane.

Not a single fan of any college football team is remotely upset, let alone "seething" for missing out on Sumrall. I'm sure most Auburn fans probably wanted a bigger name than Golesh. Who were the big dogs left? Wasn't a ton of big names out there after Franklin went to VT, Lane to LSU, and Whittingham went to Mich. Certainly not douchebag Sumrall.

Sounds like Blue-Balls Gator is the one seething that UF had to settle for Sumrall and is making up stuff to make himself feel better.
Now I have short-term memory issues, so if I'm misremembering please correct me, but didn't Auburn either stop going after Sumrall or only have one small conversation and not really go further because they always had Golesh pegged as their guy? UF was the only school to really go after Sumrall, and I recall Sumrall's agent playing games with Stricklin and Foley to make it seem like he was much more desired than he actually was and them falling for it.

Yes, there was a period of time where Florida had "moved on" from Sumrall (because they were gonna get Lane Train). And then, inexplicably, they were back on his ***...

And by "inexplicably", yes, I understand losing out on Lane Train, but somehow Sumrall was still hanging around and willing to take Lane Train's sloppy seconds...

As for Auburn passing on Sumrall, I'm not sure. But I definitely know the Gator side of things.

If it was Seminole land, and there is no apostrophe, then it was probably some white guy who didn't want to attribute the possessive characteristic. And I am here to right that wrong, regardless of whether I match the road signs and maps...

No no no. You have that wrong. They interviewed sumrall, but he denied it cause the only qb meeting he needed to be in was at Tulane. Then lane was definitely coming, but then he started flirting with LSU, and UF gave him their totally serious ultimatum, leaving the power all in their court. Luckily, their boosters all magically had decided before that that Sumrall was the much better coach and they totally said no to lane and landed their guy

They can’t talk about beating us anymore, so now they brag about GT beating us like it’s the same thing. Gator logic!

Still cant believe this is real. That's like saying I saw big foot and he ripped my legs off, but I know someone who shot him and got him injured now we hanging out soon to get our get back but we cant find him.

I'm not really sure about Auburn's interest with Sumrall. Feel like his name was on Auburn's radar for a hot minute after the Lane rumors to Auburn or Florida quickly cooled. It was hard to pay attention to all these other schools in search of a coach due to all the drama put on the Lane saga with Ole Miss and LSU. Seemed to me that Auburn was not interested in Sumrall, but things were kind of quiet on their end for a bit after the initial Lane rumors. Really didn't know who Auburn was going after, but it definitely wasn't Sumrall.

I do know that Golesh was at one time rumored to go to Arkansas. But that was just 100% a lie made up by a local DJ for a radio station out of Little Rock. Apparently, this DJ wanted Golesh on the Razorbacks and made up this lie on the radio about Arkansas and Golesh having interest in each other and almost a coming to a deal. Not too long after, Golesh to Auburn was a done deal and was kind of a surprise to everyone. Pretty sure Golesh was Auburn's main target and that's why they kept it as quiet as possible.

That might definitely have been what I was thinking of! Thank you!
