TrumpyCane will say it again, UF job is not "desirable"

Hires since Spurrier left them:

NFL Coordinator (Zook)
G5 HC (Meyer)
College Coordinator (Muschamp)
G5 HC (Shark ******)
Miss St Coach
G5 Coach

Now they think they're going to poach an established HC from premiere programs?

Based off their track record they'll hire Golesh

They fired Dan Mullen, who consistently won 9,10 games because he couldn’t recruit. So they hire Billy who has recruited better than Mullen but can’t win games despite having the largest coaching budget in school history and NIL buying players for him. I guess it’s true that good recruiting can’t overcome garbage coaching.
I really wonder how Mullen would have done under the new NIL. Like dont get me wrong I think we have done well getting some developmental, cheap pieces to mold for NIL and spending big when we need to but I do think open NIL took out a lot of wind of true recruiting pitches. So if a kid could just go to the UF collective and get a big ol check and Dan could coach em I think it could have worked, instead they about to pay two buyouts.

I was talking to a UF buddy yesterday and we could not figure out a reason to keep Billy past sunday. The only two we could is money, as in perhaps his buyout drops by a certain date or second, is that "you get to enter the portal if your coach leaves" rule applicable mid-season? I know they cant enroll in a new school and play but could they theoretically put into the portal and talk to other schools? I was unsure with the recent changes but maybe they are hoping to fire him close to the portal or at least have a new guy lined up to try to keep some on the young talent instead of 100 other schools laser focused on their roster if they fire him now.

It would be hilarious if Trammell Jones steps in and does well in Texas if for no other reason that the **** fans would scream louder about how stupid Billy is for not yanking Pickway already.
Unfortunately we would then have to hear a repeat of last year when Mertz was replaced by Lagway that if <insert back up QB> played instead they would have destroyed us.

The problem with Mullen wasn’t that he couldn’t recruit, it was that he didn’t want to recruit. He was just plain old lazy. Also, he got ****ed if that he didn’t get an NFL job he thought he was a lock for, and then he just checked out. McElwain didn’t recruit at all, and was known to just be drinking at The Swamp bar when he should have been out on recruiting trips, so when Mullen just completely gave up and did the same the last ~2 years, it was really bad.

That’s a huge reason why they’ve given Billy so much time. After two guys who flat out refused to recruit, they were ecstatic to have someone who was finally pulling his weight.

And they are afraid that once they fire him, these players will leave because the portal will open.

Think they lied about Lagway and their OL. It can be both things and doesn't need to be an either or situation. Also when are the so called experts going to stop equating number of starts with instantly being a good OL. Literally the reason why FSU was supposed to have a great OL last year and now UF. The number of starts you have means nothing if you suck but just happen to suck a little less than your back up.

Would he be a good hire?

He beat them, but his O seems like it kills his D.

I think Golesh would take the job, and they may have to settle for him.

I also think the fanbase believes they deserve better than someone from the G5 after “Sunbelt Billy.”

But what P4 coach is going to leave for a UF rebuild?

Consider that right now UF has only played four games and every player on the roster who hasn’t yet used a redshirt could still technically redshirt for the 2025 season. That means if they fire Billy today, every player could enter the transfer portal and use their redshirt for this season. They obviously wouldn’t be able to enroll at a new school but they might be more likely to immediately enter the portal if they didn’t have to worry about losing this year of their eligibility. They’re probably trying to keep a third of their roster intact for the remainder of the year.

Bored at work this morning so I’m listening to Gator fans call into WRUF 98.1 in Gainesville. These losers are beyond delusional. People calling in asking if the Gators are gonna make a bowl game🤣 if making a bowl game is your biggest concern after watching how they played in 4 games, you’re in for a rude awakening. Extend Billy!!!
