I love how you say “until he is wearing,” like the chances of that happening are actually quite promising.
At this rate, my 8-year old’s team could break this kid. I wouldn’t put it past Billy to put DJ in earlier so he has a built-in excuse against LSU, Miami, etc.

Ahead of DJ Lagway's second season in Gainesville, there was optimism the injury woes which plagued the Willis, Texas, native would be behind him.
Lagway, who was unable to throw during spring camp due to a shoulder injury, had returned to throwing during the offseason workout program, though UF was still intent on managing his workload after the sophomore was a modified participant throughout the spring.
Yet Lagway suffered yet another injury, a calf strain, during a team run near the tail end of the summer workout program, leading him to be in a walking boot for several days as fall camp arrived. Lagway missed the first three practice sessions of fall camp as he gradually recovered (???) before taking the practice field Saturday during UF's fourth practice session, which was open to credentialed media and members of the UF-affiliated NIL collective Florida Victorious.
It marked the first time Lagway had been observed throwing during a team portion of practice, although his workload was solely confined to throwing in routes on air rather than participate in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 segments of practice.
Regardless, it was a sight for sore eyes for the Florida faithful and the media who had patiently awaited Lagway's return to action.
"I think it was good for you guys to see him. I think you guys were probably a little more
relieved than everybody else," UF head coach Billy Napier said Monday. "We've been watching the guy work all summer, you know."
Napier has continually expressed optimism regarding Lagway's highly anticipated sophomore season. In May, Napier insisted Lagway would return to competition shortly, noting there were no lingering concerns (!!!) regarding whether or not the 6-foot-3, 247-pound quarterback would be good to go by the time UF opened the season on Aug. 30 against Long Island University.
Despite Lagway's most recent lower-body injury, which marked his third ailment to his lower body following a Grade 2 hamstring strain suffered on Nov. 2, 2024 against Georgia and a right hip sports hernia, the
fourth-year UF head coach hasn't hit the panic button while remaining considerate of discussing Lagway's health at the quarterback's family's behest.
With the Gators having practiced five times in fall camp, Napier hasn't changed his tune: there's no cause for concern when it comes to Lagway's availability when the season arrives, and the second-year passer continues to trend in the right direction with 26 days to go until the Gators open the season.
"Obviously he had a little bit of a setback with the calf, but I think he's on the right track and you know he threw in public the other day, and everybody's all excited about that," Napier said. "The guy's been working hard all summer, and certainly, hopefully he'll be able to do more and more as we go day-to-day."

Unfortunately, every word out of Billy’s mouth is a stream of consciousness, so “work” is probably just a euphemism for playing Madden. You know, something Billy would think is football-related, but actually useless.

Webb had surgery yesterday because he had a ruptured hamstring. It’s his THIRD procedure in the past year. And he only played in four games last year after he needed surgery for a broken tibia in September.
But have no fear, Billy predicts he will be back for the LSU game in the third week of September.
Edit to add quote from Billy:
"We have competition for who's the third back,. That's a big-time role in our offense," Napier said Monday. "We know that running backs get banged up. I don't think we've had a year where the top two, one of those guys will get banged up. So, who is that guy?"

Tre Wilson (WR) is still out today from leg injury on Saturday (speculation is hamstring). Must be something up in Paynes Prairie biting at all their legs. There are a few other WRs that are out, but Wilson would be key if he misses.
DJ has a sleeve on his leg, non-contact jersey, just observed throwing routes. So he seems to be the same, unless Billy was waiting for the media to leave to let him do more (team is in full contact today, but they noted that DJ is non-contact jersey due to injury, not just due to QB position).
Very telling quote from Spurrier who, if you know his sense of humor and personality, tends to give a lot of information in a very humorous manner:
“The team around him, certainly, I think, is really good. And I think our defense is as good as we’ve been since Billy Napier has been here,” said Spurrier. “So, we got a chance.”

I think as long as there is no on field instruction, coaches can watch. Those are more like player lead practices. You give them a script and tell them what you want to see but you can't be on the field when they do it. When I coached in college we would watch from the balcony of our field house.

KD Daniels is a RB to keep an eye on. Got extended PT vs Tulane and even had a TD on that busted play late in the game. Probably the fastest back. Has a lot of talent

And it is the same leg that he hurt / had surgery on last year. But sure, he’ll be good to go for week 3 against LSU!
That’s why Billy’s coach-speak with regard to the DJ timetable is a joke. Either Billy is just making promises he can’t keep and talking out of his ***, or he’s rushing guys back before they are ready to play post-injuries (and perhaps that is why many have multiple injuries). Either way, it’s a bad look.

It's so bizarre. They released a video of a "healthy" Lagway throwing the ball to rebut the scurrilous rumors that he was going to miss time. Except that Lagway didn't have to move his lower body at all. It's going to be much more interesting to watch him dodge big UGa and UM defensive linemen.
