Tears Gator Tears

Weren’t we in the top 3 in total defense after the first 4 weeks?

Other than Louisville and Syracuse, our defense didn’t have to face any offensive juggernauts the last 2/3 of the season. Really didn’t matter as every team other than FSU and Wake still had their way with us offensively. Duke did to an extent until the 4th qtr. I’m actually surprised we finished 27th in total defense and not lower.
We had a weird habit of surrendering lots of points without giving up a ton of yards. There were games, especially at the end of the year where we were hopeless on defense but there were some weird numbers earlier in the year. Virginia Tech and Cal scored 34 and 38 points respectively despite not breaking 400 total yards. Georgia Tech also scored 28 with only 370 yards. Rush defense was also all over the place. How do you hold 11 opponents under 150 yards including 9 under 100 yards but give up 200 to VT and 270 to GT? For some reason technical universities knew how to run against us. Good thing we didn’t play Texas Tech.

That’s cause against cal and vt we gave up long interception returns

According to the Gator board, the announcement @flagator86 posted above indicated to them that Lagway is all healthy and good to go for fall. 🤣
Listening to the talking heads this morning they all had Lagway ranked in the top 5-6 in the country….just don’t see it unless that injury made him 200 % better …

I like Lagway and thinks he has enormous potential but the love fest with em is a bit much at times and i can see how other fanbases can look past his record as a starter and look more at the stats as a reason to not buy into the hype. Completely understand

Lagway game managed last year which was fine. The defense became a really solid unit last 3rd of the year. If the defense didn't perform to their level, not sure UF makes a bowl game. Lagway wasn't the reason for the Ws, he was just there.

Post Texas game they gave up an average of 13 ppg on D. Average passing yards is 211, 1.5 TDs, 1 INT per game.

I think Lagway has potential but the hype train is a little unwarranted and the real context of what happened with UF down the stretch is being missed. The defense and run game carried them across the finish line.

Yeah, and here's what is happening with the dopey Gator fans.

Last 4 games, the Gator defense was amazing, and Lagway was at his most banged-up. I'll give him credit for playing hurt, and even if his stats were impacted by his injuries, the stats were not great.

So, essentially, the Gator fans are giving Lagway all the credit in the world for the wins over LSU and Ole Miss. Even though the stats don't support Lagway getting all the credit. And they are ignoring the defense's role in those 2 wins. All of this because Lagway played while hurt.

Strange, but true.

I think he’s a great kid and I was super impressed with him last spring. I told everyone (here and IRL) that he was way better than Mertz and I expected he would play a lot in the season and probably take over the starting role (obviously not just because of an injury). A lot of my opinion on him is also due to that FV event they had with Mertz and Lagway last spring too. Not sure if you watched that. But Mertz was just in awe of Lagway and described all the stuff Lagway can do that he couldn’t, and it was impressive.

But if he can’t stay healthy, his talent is useless. That’s the issue everyone has. Well, not the Twitter idiots, but you know what I mean. I wouldn’t bet money on him staying healthy through the entire season.

Well, most of them are also now happy that Billy is their coach.

Though I do kind of wish there was a happy medium between their naive optimism and our “fly the banners, fire everyone” rage. Which fanbase has that? 🤣

I know The Gator. This "happiness" will change on a weekly basis, and will bounce between "extend Billy" and "fire him into the sun".

They be sucking off a mid qb last year. Wait until they lose a few games they’ll start throwing him under the bus

No tears over Wingo joining the good guys?

I posted some on the Wingo commitment thread.

But, as could be expected, they are blaming it all on money. Somehow, a few dollars caused a kid from ST. AUGUSTINE to spurn the hometown Gators...

The "beat them by 20+" line is classic gator delusion. Do they really not remember the absolute butt kicking they took on their homefield last year?
