Right?!? Gotta suss out all UF grad students for potential trolldom! 😉

Who did you root for the 1996 championship?
I might have spent 4 years there but I have never cheered for the Gator and that's not going to change anytime soon. I did have Jeremy Foley lecture in a sports law class once though and he was engaging and interesting.

Now the tougher problem is that I have a daughter going to FSU and she keeps wanting me to come up there for games and I want to be a supportive dad but I am running out of excuses to avoid going!! We have negotiated that I *might* come up for the UM game this year but she'd gonna have to deal with me wearing all Canes stuff and be unbearably obnoxious -- she was doing the chop at Hard Rock last year with me after all. Luckily nobody gave her a hard time because she's still my kid...

So does G5 Billy get a pass for being trash again this year because they’ll play one of the “hardest schedules ever” 🙄

And on top of that hard schedule, no one seems to be wanting to talk about the fact that Lagway has a hurt shoulder and probably needs surgery. I know they’re gonna give it a go with him this year, but word on the streets is, that shoulder is banged up pretty bad.

Seems like a manny and Dking situation where a coach is on the hot seat and needs to perform so the guys being put out there when he’s not ready

Family always comes first. I would NEVER judge for anyone supporting their kid.

Besides, my MBA class was full of Canes, Noles, and Dawgs, in addition to Gators (and other random CFB teams). Obviously, we all stayed true to our alma maters, but we still had a blast tailgating and going to the games in the Swamp together. We also went to basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc., everything. If you love sports, it seems ridiculous to me not to go enjoy them there just because they are a rival. It is possible to stay loyal and still take advantage of everything your education has to offer.

The plan is for Lagway to have surgery after the season. The shoulder has been an issue since high school and then he reinjured it last season. He also has a core injury. He did not participate in spring because they rested him to see if there was improvement. Last I read (about a week ago), he was now throwing 3x a week.

I mean, it’s an SEC schedule. All teams have the hardest schedule of all time every season.

With 13 teams ranked inside the Top 10, what did you expect?

SEC always looking to game the system. Bags. Slapping sanctions on out-of-conference rivals. Preseason polls overweighting strength of schedule ratings. Now guaranteed playoff spots. What a joke. ... Only answer is to beat UF and just keep winning.

Throwing, and really throwing, are two different things. We’ll see what kind of arm strength he has to start the season. I wouldn’t be betting on it, that’s for sure!

I wouldn’t bet on anything with their OL either. That’s why I was saying a few pages back that I feel for the kid.

Just to confirm, did DJL ever have surgery, or is he trying to rehab without the surgery? AFAIK, he never had the surgery. I think it's less than a 50% chance his arm strength is as good as before. And even if it is, he was super inconsistent last season. I don't see how that gets any better with him doing nothing all off season. Then add in the fact he'll be running for his life. Recipe for a really bad season.

Billy has been pretty quiet about it, but reports are that they had discussed him having surgery this offseason but the family decided not to. I believe his trainer weighed in on the decision too, but I could be mistaken about that. So they rested him instead for the spring and the plan is to have the surgery after next season instead. Some people were speculating that maybe he did have the surgery and they just kept it secret, but there’s no way.

Either way, yeah, it’s super concerning both for him and for the team. There’s not much depth behind him either.

Main reason I didn't go to the Swamp was its usually about 8000 degrees and given most of my law school friends were simply not big sports fans, I didn't see the point of going there by myself and enduring the heat to watch a team I didn't care for at all...

The baseball games actually I enjoyed going to a good bit ... the stadium being over next to the law school and baseball is generally a little more welcoming atmosphere anyway.

Gator sites reported that he did a clean-up surgery right after the season, but that was BEFORE they held him out for the spring. Oh, and I don't even know if the clean-up was shoulder or knee, but either way, I think he has already had one surgery and is TRYING to let things heal naturally.

I'm not judging at all.

My very first UM game was in The Swamp in 1986. Regardless of how hot it is, I always go back for UM games.

It was BRUTAL last year. ******* brutal. People passing out near us (yes, I was on the "direct sunlight" side).

**** it. It's Miami vs. The Gator. I'm there, no matter what.
