My understanding is their big time boosters donated a ton of money for Billy’s buyout, and it was bookmarked for that, and when they started spending that money on NIL the donors started asking for their money back. So the money for portal players was not available.

Beck is a seasoned QB. He's much better than Lagway at this point. It's not even close. Lagway had 9 TDs and 9 INTs against non-fcs opponents.
The Gators are still on their dillusional hype train because Lagway was rated a 5-star QB out of high school. He had 9 TDs and 9 INTs against non-FCS opponents. Those are bust numbers.
Lagway is the second coming of Anthony Richardson. Both are physical specimens who can pick up 10 easy yards with their feet and jack the rock 75 yards, easy-peasy. But both are way too inaccurate and have zero-touch. . . . and both are over-rated based upon potential . . . "wait till he puts it all together".

He’s not nearly the freak athlete that Richardson is but he’s a better passer. He will likely improve this year with some experience under his belt but how much is the question. UF fans are expecting him to have a Heisman caliber season. That’s completely ridiculous. He could improve at a realistic rate and be a middle of the pack SEC quarterback but that’s not going to be enough to carry the entire team.
What they’re missing is that even the most talented qb needs coaching to help the talent blossom. Sure, there are the very rare talents that transcend coaching, but in no way has lagway shown himself to be that. He is a talented player who could blossom with the right coaching and the right system. Napier is in no way considered an offensive savant who will design an amazing offense to utilize his entire skill set. This keeps them in the middle of the pack in the sec

I hate the gator but I mean Napier did mend an utterly **** Mertz to a level where he was getting legitimate hype coming into this season. I don’t think he is a builder/developer of talent. I do think Napier has an offense that is QB friendly and effective when he has good personnel.
That’s a fair assessment. I feel his success with mertz was overinflated because of the high num we of short passes and screens. It’s not a knock on the system. The bengals utilize shirt passes in lieu of a running game. But the system allowed him to be a game manager and limit mistakes. The danger they’ll have is trying to change that since lagway has a better arm without the proper qb development.

Separately I think it might not be wise for anyone to automatically fully go to 105. That’s more players to split the theoretical revenue share if//when house settlement comes. Could be situational.

I don’t know what UF’s current scholarship numbers are but if Florida was so concerned with scholarships numbers, why did they take 25 incoming freshmen including 9 three star players? Why purposefully use almost 1/3 of your roster space on freshmen, most of which won’t play much this year? The. Why try to use one of those precious remaining spots on a quarterback who wanted to compete for a starting job when you already have the starter in permanent marker? Usually when coaches are running out of roster space, they push end of the bench guys into the portal. Why did three starting caliber linemen and a starting caliber corner get the boot? Did they give up on Andy Jean who they “stole” from Miami after one season?
