I'm genuinely confused by the Lagway hype. I think the one thing we can all agree on is that the kid has the physical intangibles to be great. BUT, he didn't flash elite talent beyond what any other TR FR QBs have done in similar situations. How do we know this? Well, let's compare him to a recent TR FR QB of our own who looked like the next big thing and burnt out after that.

And if people think a head to head like this is unfair, let's compare the five 5 games DJ played in/started vs. the first 5 full games TVD played in/started.

As you can see, Lagway didn't even top out TVD's 2021 stats. TVD didn't get 25% of the hype that Lagway is getting right now. It's just not warranted.

TVD was technically a redshirt freshman but yes, he was a far better passer his first season than Fatway.

It's not that they're particularly bad or anything. Their biggest issue is parts availability or lack thereof. They're really big on dealer support which is great if you're a dealer but not great if you're a consumer. Almost every part outside of minor stuff like belts is only available through their dealer network. So if you need to buy replacement parts or have any service done, you pretty much HAVE to take it to a dealer, who in turn, can charge whatever they want since they're usually the only place in town. Their commercial units even use specific models of Kawasaki engines that non John Deere dealers can't access. I'm a Kawi dealer and if I try to plug one of their model numbers into the parts lookup for Kawi, I'll get a blank screen on the web site. It's crazy.

As for residential Z-turns, there's some good ones out there. I have customers that use the Toro residential models commercially and even though I don't recommend it, they seem to hold up fairly well. I always tell people that whatever brand they choose just make sure that the local dealer is someone you don't mind dealing with. You might find the best mower in the world but if you have to drive three hours just to get a set of blades, it's not worth it.
