Yea that might be one of the better ones at least it has a ceiling…AND GO WHERE?!
All the finest hotels in Hogtown look exactly like that.
I wouldn't go as far as to say Little is a bust because the kid simply hasn't played which is my point as far as transfer rankings go. I agree that the recruiting sites are just doubling down on their high school evaluations because there's no way to compare guys with proven experience to guys that haven't played a down of college football. There's no college game film to compare. The problem is, the same people who rated these kids in high school are rating them in college. Of course they don’t want to admit that they were way off when they rank some dude four or five stars and then he never sees the field and transfers. They’re always going to give the benefit of the doubt to guys they already had ranked high. They don’t want to admit that a guy like Earl Little Junior is just a bust after they overrated him in high school.
I just don’t see how you can give a kid who hasn’t seen the field in two seasons the same ranking you gave him in high school. When you give a kid a high four or five star rating, they should be making an impact by year two. If the kid was a difference maker he would have gotten some playing time. At this point he’s just another guy who needed two years of development before getting a chance to play.I wouldn't go as far as to say Little is a bust because the kid simply hasn't played which is my point as far as transfer rankings go. In addition, guys like 3-star rated Anez Cooper have developed into very good college players and solid NFL draft prospects. There's absolutely no way to compare him to some kid highly rated out of high school who hasn't even seen the field in college.
There has to be an apples to apples comparison for portal rankings. Only guys with a certain number of college snaps should be compared. The others shouldn't even be ranked. They should have "Incomplete" next to their name in the portal.
This is why I call BS on the recruiting web sites. It's just another mechanism to suck fans in. Fans worry whether their team is keeping up and how they stack against other programs. It keeps the fans engaged and generates clicks. I don't even agree on their high school rankings, but at least they have film and camps to draw some comparison.
Even more important is the need that the transfer is filling. I don't know what metric could be created for that. Hypothetically, suppose Mario recruited another QB called Cam Ward 2 instead of Poff. Both Cam1 and Cam2 have the same high ranking, but only one of them can play. The ranking of both QBa puts your team's overall transfer ranking through the roof, but has done nothing to improve the roster except have the same quality at the backup QB position while he rides the bench watching.
If a player doesn't fill an immediate need, it doesn't matter what the team's portal ranking is.
I'm not sure if you are referring to me when you say "you." Unless you are an employee of 247, I wasn’t referring to you particularlyI'm not sure if you are referring to me when you say "you." You may be referring to the recruiting web sites.
I never said Little deserved his transfer ranking. I just said I wouldn't call him a bust because he hasn't played yet. That is my point. He does NOT deserve a transfer ranking. I was very clear in my opinion that transfers with very little to no college game experience should NOT be ranked. They should get an incomplete.
FSU fans are all giddy over their portal ranking. The difference this year is that they have a bunch of unproven players that may or may not pan out. They're acting the same way our fanbase did when had unproven local players (not even transfers) for the past 10 years prior to Mario. We were all hyped from what they did in high school, but college is a whole new ballgame.
Mario has brought in transfers with proven experience. Every 2024 portal transfer has experience.
5 star Donnell and Lorenzo Lingard agree.Cormani McClain is a 5-star for life, yo!

Sorry, but it makes no sense handing out star rankings for transfers that have no experience. What does giving a former 5-star high school player with no college experience a 3-star ranking supposed to mean? It's meaningless. You have no current evaluation criteria. Literally none. But here's the thing.
I'm willing to give a transfer SOME credit for size/speed/strength even if they have not yet started. I just don't think they should have a 5-star rating carryover. Maybe not even a 4-star carryover.
If you have a blue-chip HS prospect who has not started in college, played much, or racked up stats, then there should be an automatic downgrade. Maybe there are good reasons, maybe there was a talented upperclassman who was already starting. But outside of the "single" positions (QB, C, K, P), there are opportunities for blue-chip HS kids to get playing time at RB, WR, TE, OG, OT, DT, DE, LB, CB, and S.
And if a HS blue-chipper can't see the field, then he has earned a 3-star transfer portal rating.
Similarly, a 2-star kid who ends up starting and building up stats at a competitive level (P5/G5) DESERVES to be upgraded. And not just by one measly star, either.
That is all.

For example, Earl Little at FSU. Hasn't played and is going into year 3 as a Rsh-Sophomore. He wasn't a 5-star, but it's the same point. Did he get better, the same, or worse than his high school evaluation? I don't know and neither does the recruiting services.
Then you have Cormani McClain. He was terrible in the handful of games he played at Colorado. He got torched by Cam Ward 8/8 for 172 yards. He's well known for missing practices, not watching film, and being late to meetings, yet 247Sports has him as the #5 CB in the transfer portal. His play and habits were bad. There's no way anyone could look at his college tape and give him the 21st best player in the portal and the #5 CB rating. I hope the Gators put him out there against Miami so Cam can torch him again.
The whole transfer portal ranking is useless. It's for the fan clicks. No coach is using that crap. They are doing their own evals.

A fruit, vegetable AND a NUTI don't really want to make fun of this guy but here he is proving you can be a fruit and a vegetable at the same time.
