This is where Gaytor fans, even the two or three good ones, need to get a grip. Does "Jax" have blackmail photos of UGa? Last I checked, UGa was entitled to its own thoughts on the matter. If UGa wants to flip the game to a home-and-home, so be it. The days of one profitable neutral site game being the difference between profit or loss on a budget are gone. SEC's gonna be paying close to 100M per year, no matter where that game is played.

Oh absolutely. I was just looking at it from Smarts viewpoint pertaining to the article. FL misses out on a home too. So the money both receive from Jax must be pretty substantial for both teams to give that up
now just in terms of the game, Billy didn’t come across too eager to play in Athens lol
Any idea what the breakdown is at that stadium for fan base? On paper seems like a home and home for Fl. Now I’m sure GA fans show up particularly well for that game. But is it close to 50/50 or “neutral” 12th man advantage? Whatever it is, wouldn’t be like playing in Athens. Billy would be shaking in his overalls when he walked into that stadium

**** straight. You need 2 signatures on that contract. I cant imagine the difference of what Jax pays them and what they make now for home games is a huge margin. Unless they are just trying to play a little public negotiating tactic with Jax if the contract is coming up for renewal.

Here's the thing, the money HAS been very substantial in the past.
BUT...
Neither school went broke when they had to move 2 games to home-and-home when Jax renovated the stadium for the Jags.
And now that the SEC payout is sooooooo high (and regardless of where games are played), you are not really seeing the same impact on each school's budget.
Here's the funny thing...the more schools the SEC adds and the bigger the TV contract gets, the higher the SEC payout gets. But what can Jax do to every increase the payout for Florida-Georgia? Double the ticket price? It's a god**** SEC game, there's no extra TV money for holding the game in Jax. So, someday, some way, the total impact the Florida-Georgia has on each school's athletic budget...will get smaller and smaller, particularly when you know you have a very nice revenue offset by going back to home-and-home.
Look there's only ONE way this works: SEC goes to 9 games. 4 home, 4 away, and ONE permanent-rivalry game at a neutral site:
Jax - Florida-Georgia
Birmingham - Alabama-Auburn
Dallas - Texas-OU
St. Louis - Mizzou-Arkansas
Houston - aTm-LSU
Memphis - Tennessee-Vandy
Charlotte - South Carolina-Kentucky
New Orleans - Ole Miss-Mississippi State
It's like a barnstorming tour. Take all these rural hick towns to the big city for one big night. You could either do it all on the same weekend, or space one game per week, and try to get GameDay to pick as many of those games as possible, since those venues rarely get a regular-season college game of this magnitude.

JAX is a 5.5 hour drive (without traffic) from UGA (that means an overnight for almost all UGA fans coming from Athens) vs. barely over an hour from Gainesville. It's also in UF's home state of FL of course.
If I'm UGA I'm saying, yeah, it's over. We are not renewing, end of discussion. Sue us. We will do a home and home from here on.
Or, alternatively, we can discuss alternating years between Jacksonville and Atlanta (Atlanta is literally slightly LESS of a distance advantage for UGA over UF than Jax is for UF over UGA) if we can get a waiver to designate each respective location as a home game by the NCAA. Both situations (UF in JAX and UGA in ATL) are almost the exact same thing/distance as Alabama playing some home games in Birmingham, which they did up until 2003.
@flagator86 what legal/contractual/other obligation does UGA have to play this game in JAX once the contract expires?

Neutral site games should be moved to post season only. That **** is for some rich mofos who don't even follow football. I would get rid of them. Sign a home and home. It be nice to see the Canes go to USC or Oregon, the big house. Why wouldn't you want these big matchups in your stadium and also to visit the other team. I'm looking forward to us playing at Auburn and Texas A&M this season.

It's a 50/50 game unless one side is doing great vs not so much on the other. Like now. Wouldn't surprise me to see more red and black in the seats this fall or maybe even for the next couple of seasons.

The game is split down the middle 50/50 in the crowd so it’s not like since it’s played in Jax, the Gators get a home field advantage
Not sure but they, both sides, agreed in 2019 to extend the contract until 2025 so all this is a moot point.
I personally wouldn’t mind it being in Gainesville, then Athens, then Jax, then Atlanta on a yearly rotating basis

Again, Kirby and Mullen both shared interest in the game being played outside of Jax, and guess what, nothing happened. Their higher ups shut that down quick and I dont see when the contract is up in 2025 being any different. Both coaches cant say or desire for whatever, but they aint got pull like that no matter who they are

they're not gonna move that game. there's too much tradition in doing it in jax. that game has withstood countless coaches from both sides. it'll continue to do so when they're gone too. I also think it is a cool thing that its done in neutral site. I liked when we played UF at a neutral site too. diff energy. it'd be cool to do a home and home but the neutral site games are fun too

I know its split 50/50. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a massive convenience advantage for UF fans, and it doesn't mean that that location advantage doesn't continue into the after market. You think every ticket that is distributed gets used by the fan that bought them? There are already tons of tickets for the game on Stubhub and on scalper sites, all available to anyone from any team. Those numbers will grow as we get into the fall. It's dumb. The only reason this is still happening is money. Just money.
Also, not sure about 2025. Did something happen recently? This quote is from June 1, 2022:
Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks: “We’re not in the discussion of that right now,” Brooks said. “We signed a deal a few years ago with an option for two more years (through 2023), we haven’t gotten into the weeds on that yet. We’ll discuss that at a different time. It just hasn’t been on our radar right now with other pressing matters.”

Sorry, I had to laugh a little when Texas-OU is cited in a post about tradition lol. They dumped the Cotton Bowl as soon as they could get some more $ from Jerry, and now OU and Texas literally dumped their conference. "Tradition" is dead. Money is driving everything. Which is why if I were UGA I'd try for the JAX/ATL alternating model I suggested if they want to keep the $ aspect of it. I hear you though, it's all a bummer.
