How are you feeling about Billy - waiting for results on the field?
Do you think he’ll turn recruiting around? He’s in a hole- beyond NIL - because of staff resumes and experience I think.
The whole "college town" experience is fun when you're 18 and are out of your parent's house for the first time but it definitely gets old quick. My first two years at UCF, I lived right by campus (there was almost zero on campus housing at the time) and my social life consisted of house parties and the 18-up college bars that were pretty much run by the local fraternities. My third year in Orlando, I moved into a rental house about 15-20 minutes from campus and started hanging out at the downtown bars and clubs with the locals. That campus lifestyle got old fast. I wanted nothing to do with that scene. All these guys overrate the experience of living in Gainesville. It’s fun for the first year but you quickly learn that there are only so many places to go there. The same crowd just shifts to another place the next night so you pretty much see the same people every night.
My last two years I would drive back to SFLA every long weekend just to get out of there.
Thank you and congrats to yourself!! We got the next generation of canes comingCongrats my guy! Just proposed Sunday myself
And? What did she say?!?!Congrats my guy! Just proposed Sunday myself
This captured in 12k......is this real life?
The only thing I disagree with is Saban is the closer he's the recruiter as well. What they don't understand (I didn't before Mario got hired) was putting so much stock into the HC being a HC or DC over talent acquisition.
Nick Saban is considered one of the best if not the best coaches in college football. What is he really? He's a great CEO. He's not a DC or an OC. He doesn't coach every player on the team. He coaches DBs. One could argue He's just a mediocre coach applying the same logic as the Gator. Saban isn't winning with less. He's winning with more. More than nearly every team on his schedule. Saban can't take a bunch of 3-stars to the playoffs. Per Jimbo, he's not God.
So, all this Gator crybaby **** is just to convince themselves that Mario isn't another Saban. In many ways they are similar, but Mario is a better recruiter because he is the recruiter. Saban hires the best recruiters that do 99% of the work. Mario hires great recruiters and has his hands personally on all the recruits as the best recruiter. That's what separates him from all other HCs and that's a big problem for everyone including Billy goat Napier.
Why is Saban considered one of the greatest college football coaches? Because to this date, he's been the greatest CEO of any college football team. Mario understands that. That's what he brings to Miami. The ability to construct the next Amazon or Google. The Gator doesn't understand that. I didn't. Now I do!!!
The Gator just wants to convince himself that what's happening isn't real and that for me is glorious in all its splendor!!!!
Any coach in cfb can become a position coach at bama and look like a God. Saban closes on the best. Not anymore though....well not as muchI agree Sun Belt Billy got very lucky when Dabo got promoted that he had the experience and relationship with Sweeney to get hired as the QB coach and OC, but I don’t think it’s luck that Saban hired him as an analyst and I don’t think it’s luck that made Saban brought him back to coach WRs after he’d done it for a year and had worked on Saban’s staff as an analyst.
Saban isn’t bringing a former analyst back onto his staff unless he believes in the work the guy does.
Who you know is a big part of being successful in life and it isn’t always a bad thing. Just because someone knows you doesn’t mean they’re going to hire you for a job opening they have: they’ve got to believe you’ll do the job well.
Dabo was unknown at the time and didn’t have as big a network so hiring one of his guys made sense for him and it was lucky for Billy. That Clemson did better than people expected and his experience working for dabo looked so great was also good fortune.
But saban was established already and he isn’t doing people favors when he hires them. He is making his program better. He has a lot of choices about who he hires and can be very selective. Hiring billy after having him work on his staff would show at minimum that the guy works hard and is smart enough not to **** things up.
I’m not saying he may have been lucky to get promoted to OC and QB coach from his relationship with Dabo but I don’t really see any more luck than any HC gets besides that. He had to have proved himself to Saban for him to bring him back on.Any coach in cfb can become a position coach at bama and look like a God. Saban closes on the best. Not anymore though....well not as much
Hes probably a smart dude in terms of football like Patke but that wh ain't winning u games as a HC. Saban will let dudes drive his Lambo that have a license but to put the parts on and fix it that's his job. It's easy to drive a Lambo as Coker. Most coaches that get into D1 D2 even HS know how to teach there are YT videos everywhere on what to learn etc. Nothing new under the sun. Recruiting is a whole different animal and that's what u need. U can hire yes guys when your bama they get the best.I’m not saying he may have been lucky to get promoted to OC and QB coach from his relationship with Dabo but I don’t really see any more luck than any HC gets besides that. A position coach with Saban can get a promotion at a G5 school easily, he then got a HC job at another G5.
Mario kicks this guy’s a55 up and down the street. I just am not on board with saying he’s the luckiest guy ever. It discredits the work he’s done.
Fuq him and fuq the gaytors but I’m not going to say things that are untrue just because I root again them
I’m good with that. I hope he’s terrible as a HC at Florida.Hes probably a smart dude in terms of football like Patke but that wh ain't winning u games as a HC. Mario going to recruit better than anyone they get. There is no one they can hire that will be a threat to him. All the recruiters are hired as HCs across the board. Unless there is someone around the country we do not know about yet.I’m good with that. I hope he’s terrible as a HC at Florida.
Terrible but just good enough that the Gaturds keep him around for a few years so Mario can continue to recruit the state of Florida without competition from competent UF or FSU staffs
He closes, but is it really him most of the time? I doubt he's in contact the way Mario is. No coach is. Mario's relentless. The man is texting people at 3 and 4 in the morning. The only thing I disagree with is Saban is the closer he's the recruiter as well.
Don't sleep on Saban. When bama hired him they hired him cause of the way he recruits. That was no secret that he was a monster recruiter and has proven that he is for the last 10+ years. He closes, but is it really him most of the time? I doubt he's in contact the way Mario is. That is some funny **** right there. 20 4-stars? Gator will be lucky to sign 20 recruits let alone 20 4-stars. Shyyyt!!!
Bro we disagree about how much luck played a part in him getting jobs besides the one we both agree he was in the right place at the right time for his promotion by dabo.Man, please stop. Who said "he's the luckiest guy ever"?
But is it wrong to say he was elevated to OC at Clemson with no real national search, no real competition, and very little resume to that point? Is that wrong, or just factual?
Yes, Billy got LUCKY that Dabo was hired as an interim and had no juice to go out and hire the kind of coaching staff that Mario just did. That's called being in the right place at the right time, IS IT NOT? And, again, if Billy had gone on to have an amazing career at Clemson, you start to forget about how he got the job in the first place. BUT HE WAS FIRED AFTER TWO YEARS.
As for his tenure at Alabama, yes, he got LUCKY to be taken on by Saban. Why? Because he did not really have the resume to merit the job he was given. Mario was a FORMER HEAD COACH, he took his team to bowls. Billy hung out in South Carolina schools for 8 years, finally getting a lucky break at Clemson and turning it into a firing 2 years later. To act as if that merited a job at Alabama ignores the obvious, that Dabo (out of guilt?) arranged a cushy landing spot for his 5-year buddy. Again, if you think I'm wrong, tell me what Billy did to DESERVE a spot in Saban's Rehab Clinic.
Tell me how I've "discredited the work that Billy has done". What amazing work has he done? He has a habit of claiming credit for recruits he didn't recruit. He's not known as a good game day coach. He doesn't have some revolutionary playbook a la Dennis Erickson. I seem to keep hearing that Billy is hella organized and super thorough, which are great skills for a file clerk. I have said nothing about his time at Louisiana, he did a bang-up job for 4 years at a G5 school.
So tell me where I said anything "untrue" about Billy Napier. I'd love to hear this.
All you have done is to state the obvious about how the coaching fraternity contines to recycle itself into new jobs after multiple prior failures. And? That justifies a huge contract at a top SEC school, a $40 million buyout, and unprecedented salary structure for assistants and staff?
Billy Napier may yet succeed at Florida, but there is nothing wrong with pointing out his thin resume, lack of tangible accomplishments to which HE should be credited, and the false myth of him being a great recruiter.
You're not telling me anything I don't know. When Mario was on staff for Saban, was it Mario or Saban that brought SF kids to Bama? Who gets the credit?Don't sleep on Saban. When bama hired him they hired him cause of the way he recruits. That was no secret that he was a monster recruiter and has proven that he is for the last 10+ years.
