Garvin Postgame

Manny gave them a week off.....how could they be prepared? Didn't see it but good for Garvin for speaking out.

Modern defenses aren't going to hold every team under 20 points every game against modern rules football & offensive systems. i don't care how talented or well coached they are it's just not gonna happen. The defense was far from perfect but they've given us a chance to win every game we've been in and that's all you can ask for.

The offense scored only 3 points through three quarters against FIU. And scored only 3 points in the entire second half against Duke. Only the 2001 Raven's Defense can overcome that kind of offensive output to still win.

Other teams have scored 24, 28, 42, 28 (in OT), 30, & 27 in our losses. That is NOT bad defense by modern standards. Most of those points directly resulted from offensive turnovers in Miami territory. Besides VT, If the offense scores at least 28 points in every one of those games we are looking at a completely different season. Scoring 1 touchdown per quarter is not a monumental task and should be the standard.
Bingo!!!

In every single game we lost, the defense found a way Not to get off the field. The defense collapsed down the stretch. I don’t understand people talking about how well the defense played for 1/4, 2/4, or 3/4. It’s a ridiculous argument. We gave up 14 points to FIU and to Duke in the fourth quarter.
UM fans love picking sides. It’s always “the defense was good enough but got worn down” or “the offense did its job today.” How about every aspect of this team is ****?

Sure, the defense had a dominating quarter against Puke. Whoopdee fcking dooo!! We dominated the 119th ranked offense for a whole quarter! Get your party hats on!

A Liberty U. foe might be a win. It depends on the players though. Any Power 5 foe will be a Duke redux. Because Miami football's version of the Three Stooges will be out coached and out schemed, again.

This loss only proves FIU and CMU were not the flukes, the flukes were Virginia, Pitt and to some extent FSU. I mean, FIU is Div II level bad, and Duke had 5 losses in a row, were not bowl eligible and have been beaten like a drum in every single loss. Normal programs fire the coaching staff on the spot after two back to back losses like these.

But alas, we are not normal. This loss is exactly where the program is and record proves to be. It's a minor miracle we are 6-6.

How can you be unprepared against a sh1tty offense lead by a qb who is bad?

Exactly - Syracuse held them to less than 10 points all game. Mighty Syracuse, ranked 115th in total Defense.

UVA (27 in D) held them to 14. Notre Dame (22 in D) to 7. That's what Miami (15 in D) should be doing if those stats/rankings mean anything and we weren't such a boom or bust D all the time against mediocre teams. We should be able to beat teams like Duke straight up without getting cute and overplaying our **** hands all the time.

Duke's last game before us? Wake Forest and their 79th ranked D - gave up the same 27 points.

The defense wasnt the reason we lost that game. This isn’t 1991 anymore. You arent winning games 17-16. And if you try, Good luck. Auburn had to hang 49 on Bama to win. In this era of college football if you can’t score at least 35ppg you aren’t going to the promised land. Look at OSU, LSU and Clemson offenses. This is just the way it is. The defense has been trying to bail this offense out all year. This offense is a complete joke.

That said, Baker needs to be fired. Diaz needs to takeover the D.

Exactly! Just because one aspect sucks worse doesn't mean the other is great. Even punting was a bit off yesterday. I will say Hedley's run was awesome though.

Exactly, and also there are things that don’t show up in those stats. Like avr starting field position of our opposition, how many 3 and outs do we avr per game, that wears a defense down. And every defense shows cracks the more it’s on the field.

That’s not to say I don’t think DJ Ivey is a trashbucket. He is but if we were scoring I don’t think we’d be bad. We force other teams
To get one dimensional and unless our pass rush.
Yes...when you are fielding an offense with the product of late Larry Coker era you are going to get late Larry Coker era results (i.e. 6-6).

If Miami's offensive production was simply what it was in 2012-2015, we'd be 10-2 or better this season.

It’s all Rick’s fault. he hired Manolo Diaz knowing that it was essentially nepotism no different than his son. You had a Cuban “Miami Guy” with a daddy who was mayor of the city the guy is essentially bulletproof. He is going to remain here and cling to this program like mononucleosis clings to the high school cheerleading squad.

When your offense is malfunctioning consistently it's hard for the defense to give sustained effort the whole game. It's human nature. Guys get frustrated, tired, and seeing the game doesn't mean anything they just go through the motions. We've seen this play out before.

Apologies if this was brought up elsewhere but did anyone see him talking after the game?

He basically said they were unprepared, confused and had no idea what Dook was throwing at them.

He immediately realized how it sounded and put the onus on himself and the players to watch more film, blah blah blah but it was really the most damning comments about the corching I've heard all year.

He should punch Manny and/or Baker square in the earhole if they say a word to him about it.

He was even unprepared to be interviewed. That's also part of coaching.

Duke was held to less than 20pts five times this season. Plenty of teams where sut out this season, I am sorry but your wrong modern offenses can and are being shut out. We are just not doing it at UM.

Go Canes
