Not sure everyone gets this but, Alabama vs Miami opening game at a neutral site is the end of an era for the Crimson Tide. It marks the last time, maybe ever, that Bama starts the season in a neutral site. The fans have wanted more home and home from OOC opponents after 11 of these and we are now scheduled years in advance doing exactly that. Many of these opening games have felt more like bowl games, whether at the Bird's Nest, or Jerry's World, or even Orlando. and have been good just for the excitement level. We've played such teams as Michigan, Wisconsin, VaTech, Clemson, USC, FSU, WV, and now Miami. It's been fun, but I think the home and home is now the better thing for our fans. Here's to a safe game Hurricanes, going to be a great way to say goodbye.
I've always hated the neutral site games. Home and Home's are way more fun

who do we play?

Depends on who you're playing really. In 2008 we opened against a top 10 Clemson team with Tommy Bowden at the controls and it marked the start of the first undefeated season for the Tide in forever. Michigan and USC in Jerry World were top 10 programs and the place was electric. The FSU game was crazy in Atlanta. They were #3 and we were #1, I believe. The place was absolutely bonkers, that's what you want. Really the only regrets I had traveling to a neutral site game was the second scheduling of VaTech in Atlanta when they were just not good and somehow we got Duke in 2018. Fans weren't too happy.

Since when are the fans a consideration? Students and alum don’t matter. College football has become a money machine and that’s all that matters. Super conferences coming. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Players getting paid now changes everything even more. They also for the large part could care less now except for the $$$$. They wear a jersey every Saturday with some name on it but who are they really playing for now? Other than championships and bowl games there should never be neutral site games.

Nope.
But FSU used to call hardrock doak south
LOL, that's not what Bobby Bowden said to put on his tombstone when he was gone. Your fans seem excited to play Bama anyway. I've seen a lot preseason threads about this game over here and that is what Manny Diaz wanted.

Diaz said earlier this year that opening with a game of this magnitude prioritized focus for his team. That's a fact. These kids look forward to a big game and it definitely helps get the player's absolute attention on getting better right out of the gate. Having a sense of urgency at the start of fall camp and through summer workouts is smart.

Bama fans call the Mercedes Benz stadium Bryant-Denny east.
True, from the Georgia Dome days it's always been the home of the SEC championship game. But it's also been the rotating home of the playoffs. And we were here for the 2017 NC game vs Georgia.
