game day

Coach should have moved on from his staff 3 seasons ago. Below are stats that I posted a few times before.

An interesting stat is Points Allowed Per Season:

With Huger and Konkol

2011-12: 66.1
2012-13: 60.6
2013-14: 59.5
2014-15: 63.3

Average Points Allowed: 62.4 PPG

Without Huger and Konkol (aka Caputo Time)

2015-16: 67.4
2016-17: 64.1
2017-18: 67.8 ==> This is when changes SHOULD have been made. Clearly things are NOT working here.
those stats speak volumes but another thing that was noticeable from the second they left was lack of creativity. We haven’t changed our approach for the last 5 seasons. L has forced this system and his lack of creativity down our throat even when we suck at everything that makes a good hoops team. What kind of hoops staff doesn’t get creative when they have nothing to lose? Can anyone remember in the last 3-5 seasons a legit half court set we have ran? What about a press to speed up the game? creative zone with different looks? out of bound set plays? It’s beyond frustrating given how poor the product is.

Our program has been in a downward spiral ever since the FBI probe. 🤔
I think the FBI/Adidas scandal is the most obvious excuse for this program's struggles. However, if you look at it a little closer it really comes down to one thing -- recruiting. The 3 best players (Lonnie, Bruce & Dewan) that we've signed since 2016 all left the program early for the NBA and we've been unable to fill those holes. We've signed 2 viable big men in the last 8 years, Tonye Jekiri in 2012 and Dewan in 2016. In 2018, we didn't sign a single recruit. What's most concerning is that we were cleared from the investigation but of all the schools involved we look the worst since. Other schools were sanctioned, penalized, fired coaches, etc. and still came out better than us on the other side. At some point, this staff has to stop using the FBI probe as an excuse and start getting it done on the recruiting trail.

This team has looked and acted poorly coached for a couple years or more now. Many pointed out flaws as well as recruiting blahs many times, only to have rose-colored glasses folk come in here and make excuses and slurp and bash criticizers. Now, finally, the team's performances and fortunes are so bad almost no one is supportive of Coach L and staff, only regrets about the buyout and AD. Just venting here: a change is long long overdue and I hope there are some lessons learned about slurpees.
