Game 2 Hattiesburg Regional : Columbia

I was wrong about 0-2 bbq. Now we have a tremendous opportunity in front of us today. The way things have worked for the last 10 years will will lose our next two after having this path open up for us but let’s hope we change history.
 
As much college baseball as I watch I’d be lying if I said I knew much about Southern Miss. but boy a few of you weren’t kidding. The baseball gods really did smile down on us when they put us in this region. Southern Miss is “ok”, Bama has been pretty average since the 26-4 start, and then a good story in a good hitting Ivy team. Then our super is against an extremely talented and well coached but light hitting Vandy team.

Still a lot of work to be done, heck we could lose 2 today. But if there was ever a path to at least a super this is it.

Yup, I said we got one of the best draws cause when you looked under the hood Southern Miss and Bama have their problems (Cold bats as of late and too reliant on HR respectively).

But the caveat of that is how Columbia is a sneaky team when you do that I mean they hit the crap out of the ball.

Gotta stack runs today and get the lead first again

I definitely thought and expected Southern Miss to be more dangerous than they are. Bats aren’t as good as I thought. The Sun Belt being down is another factor

I know Ostrander has some arms lined up.

The only problem with Ivy teams is they can hang for 2 games whether it’s a slugfest or a pitchers duel and fhe. By game three you really see the drop off.

So if Columbia did beat us today I’d still take us/bama out of the losers bracket. (Even though fhe back half of our staff is…well pretty mediocre).

I’d love to win today and use just Hugus and some lower end arms so we have almost everything for Sunday. Then just unload everything in game 1 Sunday.
 
I see everyone dreaming about using Hugus and nobody else. But this Columbia teams isn’t terrible. Fact of the matter is you gotta go all hands on deck. If you wanna win the regional you gotta win today. That means in a close game you go get your best, when there’s 1 out and a couple on in the 6th. There’s no saving Walters for the 9th just bc he’s the “closer.” Win at all costs.
 
Columbia can really hit. 15+ hits their last four games. Hugus had better have another pitch working besides his fast all today.

I'm on my way as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
I can't imagine there will be many fans there tonight for an 8 PM start.

Most important game of a regional. I’d rather never have to find out who our fifth starter would have been.
