Game 1 predictions: @ Louisville

I think one variable being greatly underrated is something that Kevin pointed out, and it relates to us and Golden/NoD's scheme as well.

The transition to the 3-4 when you've got personnel on the roster better suited for a 4-3 is a major undertaking. You have to get bigger across the DL in order to control gaps, you have to find those hybrid players not just at the LB Jack/Rush spot, but you also need to find a physical FS who can come up and be another linebacker in the run game. All of that is tough to recruit for, which is why it takes time to get the pieces you need.

That process to turn the roster over when you're switching schemes is normally 3 or 4 years in order to get the pieces you need to run 3-4 concepts. Grantham might be able to switch things up quickly IF his personnel fits the scheme better than expected, but I doubt it. As for our D, we're just getting to the point to where the roster is turned over and the personnel fits this scheme much better than it did 4 years ago. This year, our D should work with the pieces in place. Grantham is just now starting that process that's taken us 4 years to get to.

Here's to hoping that Grantham finds it to be as great a struggle to install the 3-4 as NoD/Golden has. If that's the case...we could start Isaac Hoza and put 40 up on Loserville.

Seriously, your fantasies about ***** should be kept to yourself.

So you respond to the post about *****, but not to the 8 other dudes calling you out with facts? Got it.

Par for the course here at CiS.

Given I've already responded multiple times in regards to the "facts", you can just go back to your ***** fantasies.

If our D should work this year, is it fair to be upset if we have a poor defensive showing?

Gotta love the clueless casual football fans who underestimate just how great of a coach Petrino is. Coincidentally, these are the same guys who schlub around all year in a mustard-stained Al Golden tie shirt telling people to #TRUSTTHEPROCESS like ****ing dopes.

He's going to toy with this Al Groh-style, Big 10 defense designed for fat white Polish kids from Pennsylvania.

When Golden is looking helplessly across the field at Petrino, and Duke is doing his best Bobby Boucher impression trying to get Golden to picture him as a puppy, it'll already be too late. Golden teams are soft. This game is too hostile, and the talent left by Strong is very good.

Oh, and in case anyone forgot, we're either starting a reject that couldn't hack it at BYU and Kansas, or a kid that was in high school 3 months ago.

I agree ..Petrino is a great coach...I know our kids played on the same Pop Warner Team for two years when he was QB Coach at Jax. He is charismatic the kids will quickly buy in to his ideas...but this year he will be out manned...this year Duke will be tougher.

Absolutely. Don't mistake me for the rah-rah apologist crowd. I'm ****ed off about how the D has played since NoD and Golden took over and have been implementing the 3-4...but the system can work with the right personnel. I think we've got those guys on the roster now.

If they still suck after this long of an implementation and personnel turnover, then I'll be by your side with torch and pitchfork ready to run these jokes out on a rail in favor of someone who will simplify back to a 4-3 base. If their scheme does start working this season, then I think we'll all be happy because it's tough when it's run right by the correct personnel (see Kirby Smart/Nicky Satan's 3-4). Win-win.

The truth is, we won't know much about any of this for sure until about 11PM on Labor Day night.

Great, you know his offensive numbers. Can you also post his defensive numbers in Louisville and Arkansas.

I am orginally from Arkansas, and I watched every game that Bobby Petrino coached at Arkansas.

THe reason he couldn't beat Bama, and struggle to beat LSU is because his teams usually got manhandle on defense.

Bobby Petrino is a great coach, and will win a lot of games at Louisville, but he will also be in games where his team scores 30, and they will give 45.

Sounds familiar

Don't bash each other we're all Cane fans, every one has a right to their own opinion, don't get mad if they don't think Miami is going to spank that ***

If Miami wins this game they will have to score at least 27 points I cant believe people really think a Dorito D is going to hold Pitrino to around 20 points or lower

It's in this thread, BRO.

Also, we are far from Bama/LSU.
