Gabois and McDermott

I wouldn't be surprised if Gadbois and Darling are the bookends next year with McDermott inside.

That's not due to any issues with McDermott, I just think Darling is more comfortable at tackle and McDermott could do a nasty job at guard before kicking back outside.

i agree mcdermotts size and stature fits more into a guard mold

Disappointing that Trevor Darling can't slide in and play RT

Kid's a true freshman for ****'s sake. He will likely be in the rotation.

Agreed... Darling is not a JAG! He'll definitely be in this year's rotation regardless.

I believe many of us had KC and Darling pegged at 2nd string tackle due to Bunche leaving and us losing a guy to Stanford. However, I think LG might be his best position...I don't know. We'll see how things pan out.

The battle to become UM’s starting left guard has developed into a three-horse race between freshman Nick Linder (6-3, 285), sophomore Alex Gall (6-5, 306) and junior Hunter Wells (6-6, 312), and coach Al Golden said Wednesday he’s going to let it play out over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Last Saturday against Duke, it was Linder who replaced fifth-year senior Jonathan Feliciano at left guard when he was moved over to right tackle to fill in for injured starter Taylor Gadbois in the fourth quarter.

Gall, who hasn’t played since the Arkansas State game because of a back injury, finally practiced with the team as a full participant Wednesday. Wells, meanwhile, is back with the team this week after serving a one-game suspension against Duke for a failed drug test.

“Obviously, Alex was kind of the front-runner before the injury,” Golden said. “I’m interested to see as I go in and watch [practice film] how he did and how his conditioning is and all that. We’ll see how it shakes out in the next 48 hours.”

Golden said Linder, the younger brother of former Hurricanes lineman Brandon Linder, is big enough and strong enough to physically handle the starting job even though he’s the youngest of the three fighting for it.

Is linder really only 285? Good thing GT's DL are also physically small and not that talented.

Whoever made the comment about Darling being a true frechman....it doesnt matter. FLowers came as a true freshman and had a freshman comparable to Duke Johnson on the o-line...at this point he is probably in a better position to be a 1st rounder over anyone on the team.

Our o-line was shallow before we started the season and losing those two guys for that amount of time is going to make it that much harder to win out...we are going to face some pretty deep d-lines in FSU...Va-Tech...and UVa. I sure hope Darling can step up in a big way.
