Ron Rivera (Cal GM) reportedly called JKS people and got the ok to fire Wilcox.
Rivera isnt stupid and he has a lot of rich alums backing him. JKS won’t even make it in the portal.
Oh yeah, the coach who recruited him to Oregon was just hired as Cal’s next HC

Impossible to put a value on a QB right now because some teams will pay whatever because that's all they're missing. Some others will pay whatever because that's the only position they'll spend on because they think it'll carry their team without having anything else.

Lol ok…you’re crazy.
People are saying this off one scripted / misdirection play to jojo where the defense was caught off guard (the pass was nice btw). Even the TD pass to Lofton against Pitt, he barely got it over the defender who almost tipped it.
You think he’s going to be able to drop back 40 times a game, go through progressions, stand in the pocket at 5’10” and be effective? Lol, this ain’t high school.

Clearly he’d be way more effective in an RPO type offense and rolling out etc. College ball, yea… I think he’d absolutely kill it. Along with enhancing our running game. D ends crash and Mali would torch people. Kid has the it factor along with the will to win. Height be damned… he’d take us places.
But I know… it’s a pipe dream - I’m just glad Mario finally got out of his own way and is allowing packages for him back there now.

i would forego the quarterback position and put Toney as our wildcat and run the ball 90% of the time, mostly into the backs of the OL in the A gap on first and 30.

I get all that but it’s still losing cal, more money is always better and we have a top O. It’s the perfect situation for a qb. We should be going hard for whomever we want. If no meant no to Mario we wouldn’t have many of our recruits.
Well.. 4 million in CA is probably equivalent to getting 3 million in FL.

We all need to stop with JKS dreams. Not happening. Let’s focus on efforts on QBs that are open to moving. And for the record, if Mario doesn’t already know and made contact with his top 3 options, he’s learned nothing from the extended time it took to land Cam and Beck. But I’m betting we already have our guy. Who that is, only Mario and maybe Dawson/Mirabel know.

Samoans are different. Tosh Lupoi has known the family for years.
We can keep hoping but we have no relationship with JKS. The Mauigoas said it themselves that Mario’s long relationship recruiting Francisco played a big part in him coming.

Which potential transfer QB (lets leave it JKS as its not happening), do you believe will be as good or better than Beck was for us? To me Beck set the standard we have to be able to reach for a serious, annual run to the playoffs.. Ward was in another world and it’s not worth trying to find the next Ward as it may not happen for 20 years.

Told you all weeks ago he was the one to target. He’s looking at a late 2nd - early 3rd rd grade. He saw what Cam Ward did last year, go from a mid round G5 qb to #1 pick. I think Miami could sell him on throwing to Toney. IMO he is the #2 qb with only JKS ahead (because JKS has two more years of eligibility).
Dual threat QB with good accuracy and who very rarely turns the ball over. Thats pretty much an automatic ACC championship next season.

I think Sorsby would be in Heisman stratosphere in our system, so not 20 years. He had a rough Nov and Cincy doesnt give up alot of sacks either but he was on pace to be there before a couple hickups.. Plus he can legit run better and would add element that Ward didnt have (600 yrds+ rushing, 9 Tds)
For me it's Sorsby. He doesn't have quite the accuracy of Beck, but this season he's shown he can avoid throwing picks better than Beck. From the limited action I've seen of Sorsby he's an in between of Ward and Beck because he can do a lot more improvisation and buying time better than Beck.
The QB from North Texas is a bit too inexperienced for my liking to throw a bag at, even though he did put up great stats this year.

I think with Sellers we could make a run. He’s dynamic enough the offense would tap into a different style with his running ability. We’d have to accept the bad, but it could be a he becomes a better QB because the sum of the parts around him are better than at USCe. It’s slim pickings now. Maybe that changes.
