FUIAP: Barry Jackson says we suck

Do you look at the headlines every day?

Jackson is the only one at the Herald that I read. Cote has decided that being a progressive hack then excelling at sports is more important to him. The rest of the paper is so obsessed with bashing Trump that it has ceased to be a source of reliable news. I used to subscribe to their internet offering but got sick of pop up advertising interrupting my reading.

Listening to u people whine all day about how unfair the universe is to trump is getting old. Seriously.

he's saying everything the board doesn't want to hear. the glory days are farther away than most realize or want to admit but this 2018 class playing early and often could expedite their development with us needing 2019 class to be just as much of a monster to stockpile talent and depth.

It's gonna take five years. This team is still thin and will be for at least another year if not two. Golden left a mess. Richt has done well with this team so far, but we still need a couple more classes to rebuild and get some experience, especially since we have tremendous attrition with kids running to the NFL all the time (only to fail and end up on some CFL practice squad).

Butch needed five years, and so will Richt.

This is an upopular message, but it's true.

Everyone wants to talk about what an incredible dumpster fire Golden left behind...and then they turn around and say Richt should have a championship caliber team by year 3.

Ok.

So losing Folden's guys and replacing them with Rick's guys is supposed to be a bad thing? If it is, then we're in a world of hurt in more ways than this. This is year 3. No more lame excuses. We should be upgrading at every position now that Rick's recruits are replacing Folden's.

'chise:

i don't think anyone would dispute that Richt's players are better than Al Bauxite's .... the issue is numbers.

we just don't have enough guys to build real championship depth, because kids seem to come to UM with one eye on the exit. we need to keep the best players on the roster for more than 3 years. otherwise, it's going to continue to be two steps forward and one step back. we've seen that in the both of richt's two seasons, now.

it's the other half of the equation, logically. first part is keeping local stud players at home, and not getting out-recruited by Alabama, LSU, etc. (which is tough since they are always dropping bags). the other part is you need guys who are good, to stay. clemson kept all of their junior DL, who were more highly rated than our guys, and yet our knuckleheads skip town.

it's a problem that needs to be solved.

Comparing this to what Butch walked into is the most insane bs I've read on here in awhile. And I'm far from a Butch guy.

“We are going to get blown out at va tech/Notre Dame”
Go fantasize some more about those teams embarrassing us again like you said they would before the game

I said it about VT and was wrong. However, based on the end of the season my post happened to be accurate with the 3 game losing streak with one in blowout format. We struggled with average teams all season which is a sign that we aren't a great team. Richt won the games that Golden/Shannon couldn't and therefore got our record where it was. That within itself is a huge accomplishment as for a decade we lost way too many of the Pitt's from this year. Give Richt with the best staff we've had in a decade two more recruiting classes and the playoff will have a serious contender in the Miami Hurricanes. Not what your green and orange blinders what to read but its the reality of the current state.

hey man..we have most certainly been in worse depth situations here recently.

Patchan back to DE
Redwine back to Corner
Sign some DT's in recruiting and lets ride.

Rotations will just be a little shorter.

Shut the **** up.

You we're so wrong about VT/ND, I can't believe you'd post again after that. You must literally have nothing else to do

We're top-10 in every single pre-season projection.

But that won't stop Barry from focusing on the negatives. Like most of the media, his coverage is always negative. Theres a reason he put that out now. Chances are many of his complaints will be moot on NSD

We 3 deep

DE JACKSON / GARVIN / ROUSSEAU
DT WILLIS / BETHEL / CHATMAN
DT FORD / SILVERA / ODENIGBO
DE DJAX / PATCHAN / MARTIN

LB MCCLOUD / WILDER / JOYNER
LB SHAQ / SMITH / JENNINGS
LB PINCKNEY / PERRY / STEED

CB JACKSON / FRIERSON / BLADES
SS REDWINE / CARTER / FINLEY
FS JOHNSON / SMITH / HALL
CB DEAN / BANDY / IVEY

Barry Jackson has been good to UM and Richt the last two seasons. As a reporter he is shedding a light on potential areas of concern which are valid. You should really open your eyes and see that this incoming team while talented could of been much better if our defensive coaches weren't too busy letting studs on our team and in our own back yard step away from the program

Lmao Patchan? Unless he gets on juice he's not making plays again top notch competition. Too small

If Patchan and Martin aren't ready to contribute then we're in very very deep ****.

Just restating the obvious.

The “concerning” part is that we are actually concerned about losing a few mid round draft picks, none of which did much of anything when the games truly became difficult.

Sure the roster has obvious issues but it’s not like we are trying to replace a roster of Pro Bowlers like we used to.

This is a bit of a stretch.

Walton was a very solid RB in all aspects of the game, including being one of the best gunners I’ve ever seen.

RJ blew up, or at least disrupted, a lot of plays. Norton was solid and good.

I realize you qualified your statement by saying they disappeared when it mattered, but losing those 3 would significantly hurt any team, outside the top 2 or 3 teams.

EDIT: I’ll also add that losing DJ Johnson, even if unproven, and Darrien Owens hurts. Owens in particular - we as fans always downplay the guys that aren’t superstars as being expendable, but those quality snaps you get from backups are key to keeping starters fresh and healthy. Sure, we probably get them back from Wilder and the other young guys, but I would’ve rathered open competition between all them with the winner seeing the snaps.

I’m with you that they are significant losses.

Maybe it’s just that it’s been beaten to death so badly on these boards that I feel the losses aren’t worth the attention.

Im not sure what we really have in the pipeline yet, but we will see.

Without getting into a player by player, *** for tat, I’d say that Golden didn’t leave the cupboard totally bare; he just couldn’t stack chips to create depth.

When the Evan Sherriff type players transfer out and we upgrade, that’s great. But proven commodities like Walton and RJ are bad losses.

And let’s not forget how many recruits don’t pan out. We see that every year, with every team. This board loves following the careers of guys who spurned us, only to bust somewhere else; when in fact had said player signed here, he would’ve been penciled in by porsters as a starter/contributor over some returning junior.

Point is, attrition hurt this year and if you deny that you aren’t being honest with yourself.

Very wrong about VT yes but assessment wasn't wrong in the big picture as we saw what transpired late in season consistently. My post came 3 weeks too soon.
