I might be in the minority, but I thought Golden had a very ****** hand dealt to him, that dude had an eye for talent..however his love affair with Dorito was a massive issue.
Something tells me Al Golden wasn't exactly given a blank check to work with down here when it came to hiring assistant coaches. We were on the cheap, big time.I might be in the minority, but I thought Golden had a very ****** hand dealt to him, that dude had an eye for talent..however his love affair with Dorito was a massive issue.
Actually F Golden for using my beloved program as a personal advancement tampon. That's in addition to the giant F Golden for recklessly and stupidly gambling the programs success and reputation on a clearly incompetent stooge like Mark Donofrio who made Manny Diaz look like Bud Carson.I might be in the minority, but I thought Golden had a very ****** hand dealt to him, that dude had an eye for talent..however his love affair with Dorito was a massive issue.
That’s why he didn’t get fired cause Golden did not want to outsource and not have his scheme in place. Soft behavior, did not want a loud voice to challenge him. Wanted yes menDorito was a bum and a very unpleasant person, but he was running GOLDEN's defensive scheme. He had Dorito running it, because that's the scheme and philosophy GOLDEN wanted to run and he knew no other DC would run that crap here at Miami. That was Golden's defense, not Dorito'sI might be in the minority, but I thought Golden had a very ****** hand dealt to him, that dude had an eye for talent..however his love affair with Dorito was a massive issue.
Yes, Dorito was a poor choice of a man to be running any system, but that scheme was not going to work no matter who was running it.
Time for an RVA flashback.

@TRick72 @No_Fly_Zone , how’d I do with the last gif???
He also carried with him The Curse of the Orange Bowl, because of his daddy's connection to its demise. No, but arrogant stubbornness was his downfall...
He had the keys to the kingdom and every opportunity to succeed at Miami but chose to surround himself with an under-qualified staff. He had two of the worst losses in program history on the way to losing the locker room yet, by many accounts, he refused support/guidance from Alonzo when offered the opportunity.
People hate him for his contemptuous nepo-baby behavior that not only embarrassed him and his family, but also brought shame to the entire UM community. Nothing needs to be said about dude--one way or another, but let's not absolve him completely of failing to put the program before personal relationships.
I don't know why Golden was so stubborn about wanting to keep using his defensive philosophy/scheme. I don't think he was a dumb person. He's obviously had success since adapting after Miami canned him. That’s why he didn’t get fired cause Golden did not want to outsource and not have his scheme in place. They all have one thing in common every HC we had to fire. They could not recruit skill or trench players at a high clip. Thats the only relation they all have, the nfl draft agrees as wellI don't know why Golden was so stubborn about wanting to keep using his defensive philosophy/scheme. After the first couple seasons, especially after 2012, you would have thought he would have said to himself, "This system just isn't working. It's just not matching up with what today's offensives run now. I need to implement a new strategy. Oh, and I should probably get a new DC to run it while I'm at it. He's a jerk." But, no he continued to try and put a square peg in a round hole.
Maybe Golden's defensive scheme and philosophy worked good in the 80's and 90's with good athletes when most college offensives weren't as advanced as they are today. By the late 80's and 90's, weren't most teams running the I-formation? I know some teams had their variation of spread and some were still run heavy, but they were pretty basic compared to what we started seeing by mid 2000's.
And they'd all stumble onto a good player or two that fooled many into false hope that we were trending up.They all have one thing in common every HC we had to fire. They could not recruit skill or trench players at a high clip. Thats the only relation they all have, the nfl draft agrees as well

Yup same thing any HC can do and similar coaches still do. Billy did that Norvell and Summeral will do that as well.
Culture building is also bad and they can’t recruit character as well. They will take risks on character to get talent.
They always get one or two guys a class and the fans validate it as “elite recruiting” and we know that it’s cap. And if they whiff and the talent is not who they say they are or the eval is bad then you are cooked.

Oh, I agree with you. I'm not saying Golden is a good coach. I don't think that at all. I was only pointing out he did have some success immediately after Miami in Detroit, Cincinnati, and then ND.His "success" stems from running Freeman's defense
TrumpyCane just checked and the Bengals finished 2nd to last in the NFL last year in yards, they were 26th in pass, and last in rush defense
The dude SUCKS
"No, Al is also a problem. Yeah the players suck but he continues to do the same dumb crap every week. He’s still dropping edge rushers into coverage too much, still putting Knight on the edge even though he’s sucks there, still running the same slow stunts on the dline, still playing both terrible safeties, etc. Plus it doesn’t seem like he’s holding players accountable at all. They don’t even give a **** about how poorly they are playing. They’re laughing it off in the locker room meanwhile the offensive players are ****ed at them
Again it’s not all his fault cause the players are terrible but the defense is even worse than last years and the personnel is almost the same. The only new guys are the LBs, Shemar, and Slaton. Not only is the defense worse than last year, it’s the worst defense since 2000. That’s 800+ teams and our defense is worse than all of them. Whether or not it’s Al’s fault, you don’t keep a coach after his side of the ball performs that badly"
"I was cautiously optimistic when Golden was hired, mostly because Lou was so stale. But this is the worst Bengals defense I've ever seen. Yes they've had bad secondarys and bad front 7s in the past but I can't remember a time where every position group was so horrible and unwilling to tackle. I thought Al needed a year to bring in his guys but when you watch this defense, it doesn't matter who is lining up they are going to be bad. I don't get the only rushing 4 every play or constantly dropping DL into coverage. There are no adjustments whatsoever. Guys constantly lost or out of position. Like most of you, I knew when we scored with a minute still on the clock we were cooked. This franchise is so **** frustrating. Duke, Zac and Al need gone yesterday."
Sound familiar?
