Even leaving in the fact that if you take out the 80s, you are still leaving the best football team of all time in there in the 2001 title team. This is so hypocritical it is amazing.

If you take out the 80's and leave 2001 we would have about 6 great years in the history of the program. One that's fielded a team since 1926.

That would be mediocre (or worse).

I don't even think you know what hypocritical means.

What I know for sure is that you don't know anything about the history of college football in general and this program more specifically.

His point was one coach, Meyer.
Not a period of time.

Ok, so take out our 6 best years.

zbrod's point was ridiculously stupid.

There's no program ever made that averages 10 wins per season for the history of their program.

9 wins is elite.

Florida only averages about 7 and that's with Urban Meyer.

We're worse than Florida in that metric.

zbrod (and you) just don't have the first clue what you're talking about.

As usual.

not the point guy...

This moron is saying that we are a mediocre team if you take out one decade in the 80's.

We have a mediocre record all-time sans the 1980's.

That's just a fact.

Again, I'm not a fanboy like you are so it doesn't hurt my feelings.

Now go hide in the corner little fanboy.

Aside from the decade between about 1980-81 and 1993-94, the only other period of unquestionable Cane excellence is the late Butch era of about 1999-2003, when the Bowl loss to Taint brought the end to the Program.

Other than that, it’s been Mid-Table club stuff, although the Gustafson period in the Sixties did see players like Ted Hendricks and I think George Mira.

Yep.

The same people who whined about how bad we were for the last 15 years are the same goobers claiming that we're a "blue-blood" now.

Meyer was at Florida for 5 years.

6 years but what place do facts have on this forum?

Take out 6 years then.

We've got no room to make such silly arguments.

Say what you want, but 5 championships in less than 20 years is elite. Very few programs have that many and just about nobody has dominated for 2 decades. Did we win 10+ games every year? No, but we won 25% of the championships. Other than you, nobody just writes that off. I don't know what your problem is, I don't know why it's so important to you that we be a 2nd class program, but maybe this isn't the team for you. We aren't going to retroactively have been good in the 50s so if that's your measure you'll always be disappointed. We're #12 in championships and at least 4 of the teams head of us will never reach that level again. That puts us firmly in the top 10 which is, by any measure, elite.

02-123.webp

Maybe you should go root for one of the many teams with more NCs than us like Yale or Minnesota.

Right, but don’t just count the six “elite” years. UM was actually a pretty good ball club by year two of Schnelly and stayed that way until the dry rot set in as Jimmy’s players graduated or moved on during the Dennis era. Then when Dennis moved on and the recruiting sanctions thing bit us, we were rotten until late in 1998.

Yeah, that period of time is elite. Nobody said otherwise.

But for those that have actually paid attention to the entire thread, we're not elite if you take away our 6 best years.

zbrod's point was super stupid. As anybody would know if they paid attention to college football history.

I don't know what it is with you pantywaists but you just can't tolerate the truth unless it's about how great we are.

We're not a 2nd class program.

But if you took away our best 6 years like zbrod tried to do, we would be 2nd tier all-time.

Just. A. Fact.

Florida isn’t any type of blue blood program. You take out Urban Meyer and they’re a perennial 9 win team, I would take UT or the Nebraska job before I took the UF job.

I don't really want to defend them, but that Spurrier guy was pretty good. 122-27-1 and 87-12 in the SEC.

Oh no, I’m not under playing his obvious success there but even he won 11 games or better three times and that was in ‘93, ‘95, and ‘96. The rest are 10 games or lower

Jesus, why are you making me do this

9-2, 6-1, SEC Champs (probation, no bowl), #1 3

12-1, 8-0, SEC Champs, National Champs, Sugar Bowl, #1
10-2, 6-2, Citrus Bowl, #4

If you frame it this way ^^^^ It looks more impressive

Plus they only played 11 games with Spurrier..... I'm sure if he had 12 at fla like urban he would have a lot more 11 win seasons

That puts us firmly in the top 10 which is, by any measure, elite.

Again, this is not the point being argued.

If you had actually read the entire thread you might understand. Instead you just bust in here as if you know what you're talking about.

Take away our 6 best years and we're not elite.

Fact.

My neighbor's brother-in-law's sister is a part-time realtor for Coldwell Banker in Alachua County. I'm hearing Fuente's wife has been there for the last 48 hrs trying to find a 4 bedroom Craftsman with possible space for a carport. Players notified. VagTech debating whether Bud Foster can at least appear sober enough in public to handle the interim duties.

He looks old and chubby there, with a set of manboobs. I remember him throwing the ball at Florida Field as they called it then, back in 1966-7. He's too old to be in the profession. He even looks arthritic throwing that headset. He's not throwing 30 yards across field to Richard Trapp. Needs to stay on the golf course or maybe even slowing down to shuffleboard, if they have it in the retirement community where he lives.

Never mind.
No comment either way on the subject.
Good to here from you Piccolo.
Long time pal.

I heard this as well.
Surprised he won't last 2 years in Blacksburg.
