Mostly because we didnt really have a real football program until the late 70's early 80's, which we dominated the 80's until we went on probation in the 90's, rebuilt into the greatest team of all time in 2001, Then had the scandal and 3 of the worst coaches in UM history back to back. You cant compare our mediocrity with UF's. Ours was mostly brought on by probation and sanctions, not by being a terrible football program.

I feel like you're 15 years old with this post.

We didn't have a real football program because, well, we weren't good.

We dominated for a decade then regressed. Then dominated for 4 years and regressed.

Saying we had the worst coaches ever is wrong and just an excuse.

-29 since age seems to really matter in this conversation, but good one...
-We didnt have a real program before the 79-80 because of our school administrations.
-Show me a 4 year period from the 80's- 2004 that we were in regression that wasnt caused by probation.
-You also cant deny that if we had good coaches with the talent we had on our teams in the mid to late 2000s until golden left that we would not have been immeasurably better.

Couldn't every program in America say "we would have been really good if we didn't suck"?

We didn't have a good program, period.

This is just convenient excuse-making that any program could do.

"Just delete most of our history because of (x) and we're elite!"

You're right, we had the best coaches

is this Doppelganger guy serious?

Miami is not a "blue blood" program and never has been. Miami is the uninvited guest who trashed the blue bloods' party and came away witih 5 national titles in the process.

Nebraska looks like a program whose best days are behind it.

Tennessee is a program that probably feels stupid for running off Phat Phil because they thought they could do better.

The Crocs are in a tailspin...but the lure of the SEC and the fertile recruiting grounds will be too much for some serious coaching candidates to turn down. That's why Randy Shannon needs to run the table the rest of the season.

not the point guy...

This moron is saying that we are a mediocre team if you take out one decade in the 80's.

Ok Cool, so flip that around and you just saying that if we take out a decade of the best stretch of college football played out of the record books then we are mediocre. Even leaving in the fact that if you take out the 80s, you are still leaving the best football team of all time in there in the 2001 title team. This is so hypocritical it is amazing.

Just playing your game... IF UFelony offered Fuente the job, he'd be an idiot not to jump at that over VT in a heartbeat. He can double his salary going to Turdville.

Frankly, I think he's a better fit at Vag Tech, and my choice would be to get him out of our division. He could be a thorn in our side there for 20 years if he likes it in Deliverance country. He could succeed at UFag, but that program is badly broken, and he could just as easily get run out of town in 2-3 years.

Virginia is not Deliverance country.

Blacksburg, VA is!!!

Well, were we mediocre before the 80's? Were we mediocre for most of the 90's? Have we been mediocre since about 2003? All you really have left is the 80's and a brief period in the early 2000's.

UT, UF and Nebraska are all overrated jobs for a multitude of reasons. UF isn’t in South Florida, and will get our scraps when we are rolling. UF is more South Georgia than it is South Florida. And they aren’t the free wheeling spenders and facility masters everyone assumes they are.

I wouldn't say Miami was mediocre for most of the 90's just not as dominant as they were in the 80's. One losing season in 97 and a bunch of 8 and 9 win years is still the upper echelon, just not the cream of the crop.

I remember when finishing 9-3 and ranked 16th put Miami fans on suicide watch.

Fuentes has stated that he doesn't want to coach in the SEC – he hinted at the corruption in recruiting.

He's a perfect fit for VT. I could see him being there for a while. It will be nice to have the Miami VT rivalry back to where it used to be.

I want to believe this is true, especially the part about SEC corruption in recruiting.

But unless you can point to a link or source, I’m not quite buying this.

How about a link?

A program’s level of power should be judged by what it has been able to accomplish under various coaches. UM is a monster because it won/should have won NCs under 5 different HCs over the course of 20 years. A couple of those coaches were far from transcendent coaches, who never accomplished anything elsewhere close to what they were able to accomplish at UM.

UF, on the other hand, needed two transcendent HCs to accomplish anything in their history. How many Urbs or Spermier in his prime are out there? Every time that UF job opens up they shoot for the moon and wind up settling on guys like Zook and McEltooth.

Fck UF and any UM fan trying to pimp that place as special.

Outside of the DC suburbs, VA is Redneck Central. (Only other exception would be the African American sections of Richmond, Newport News and that surrounding urban area.)

Some people just don’t get it.

On these topics, I have no doubt you and a few others get it.

And you have to live in fūcking Gainesville.

That alone makes it a shīt job.

Ok, glad im not the only one, HAHA!!

doubt it - wasn't he being courted by SEC schools when he was a hot commodity at memphis? IIRC, he spurned it b/c the SEC just wasn't his thing but that's from my recollection.

Yes.
Something about the recruiting wars in the southeast.
