FSU Officially Hires Willie Taggart

Not saying Taggart is the next coming of anyone, but I think the huge difference between Taggart and Jimbo is the Jimbo seemed to lose his desire. last 2 years frankly didn't look like he even cared anymore. They have top 3 - 5 talent in college, and he wasted it. The asst coaches up there were too laid back, and nice, and appeared he had no intentions of changing staff unless forced to by admin, Not a good mix.

I think Taggart will bring them some life, and a new aggressive defense, as well as open up the offensive. Also, i expect their recruiting to pick up in Florida. Especially at the wr position. what WR would like to go there under the offense fisher ran. Will hurt UF more than us though, because Taggart's a Tampa guy, and not of much of a South Florida guy. Will be interesting to see who he brings as asst coaches and if any connections to South Florida.

What sucks, is they did not have to pay him the huge buy out they would have after another 6-6 type of season next year. program was stale, and they got a get out of jail free card.

The huge difference between Taggart and Jimbo is that Jimbo is a proven quality HC who has coached and won at the highest level, even before he bcame FSU HC. I agree that Jimbo needed a fresh start and Taggart will probably bring more energy, but the guy is a loser. He’s been a loser everywhere.

Jimbo was an elite recruiter. All these guys trying to act like FSU was a moribund program with nothing going for it are in for a rude awakening, because Jimbo is not easily replaceable.

"He's been a loser everywhere."

The fact that you typed that with a straight face tells me all I need to know about you.

OK

Losing record at every school he’s been a HC at, except for Oregon where he bolted after a year. Losing record as a HC. Willie Taggart isn’t a loser?

You kinda gotta consider where he took over. WKU was 3 years removed from being a Division 2 school when he took over that program. He took over the USF bulls a couple years removed from the Jim Leavitt years. Dude can coach I just wonder if he can coach at a championship level.

Of his 50 career losses, 37 of them were by double digits.

He doesn't just lose. He gets blown out.

ok so can we also consider what kiffin and butch davis did as well then?

because it sure didn't take 3 years..

You kinda gotta consider where he took over.

Again, his has been demonstrated over and over again.

Great coaches don't go 2-10 twice. They take over bad situations and make them better almost immediately.

Look at a guy like Jeff Brohm. Took over a Purdue program that had gone 9-39 over the previous 4 years. He went 6-6 in year 1. And that's in a P5 conference!

Isn’t he also 2-13 against ranked opponents? I know he’s been at lesser programs so that figure is skewed but it’s still awful.

And Lane Kiffin has never had a losing season as a college head coach.

Do people think that Florida State is going to allow Taggart to go the 6-6, 7-5, 9-4 route? Because that's not going to happen. Those deluded folks in Tallahassee think they have a 10-win team next season.

Frost took over 0-12 in the same range of competition as what he had at USF and went 13-0 and conference champion beating multiple ranked teams. Taggart is a good recruiter which is why it takes time for him to turn a program around.. he has to get his players and more talent than everyone to win. His coaching ability is absolutely a question mark.

Butch took over a Miami program that got hit with sanction and still manage to build a championship roster fulled with HOFers/All Pros.
Kiffin, like Butch, got hit with sanctions which is why Pete Carroll dipped for the NFL.
