How could any expert believe the hype surrounding FSU going into this season? Forget DJU being DJU.

We are now witnessing the damage that was done to the FSU program from the insane mismanagement of Norvell at the end of last season. Crying to that they didn't get into the playoffs, creating such a crybaby stink that the Florida Attorney General got involved, allowing over 23 players sit out Orange Bowl and then getting totally humiliated by Georgia as Georgia took the game seriously.

By not being a strong leader, like Kirby Smart, Norvell has inadvertently created a toxic culture of quitters. FSU lost this game back in December. Norvell is not good enough to regain control and change the trajectory that he created. It's going to be a long year for FSU and Norvell will be entering next season on the hot seat.

They lost because they aren't a talented team and have a **** *** qb

interesting take. It's going to be a tough season for FSU faithful because there's just enough residual delusion to maintain hope. The BC game looms large...

He did lead them through some pretty rough times when he first got there. He’s a builder, but he did so through the portal before the established brands (including us) caught up. FSU doesn’t have the means at this point to do it again.

He’s a good coach, but not sure we’re seeing them go 13-0 again for a while. Talent won’t be there.

The experts didn’t forget about DJU; DJU was expected to be a guy who would complete about 63-65% of his passes w/ limited turnovers on about 230 yrds/game. There’s not a single pundit I’ve seen not say otherwise.

They expected FSU’s OL to be a strength, the running game to be a strength, & the defense to be a strength w/ DJU playing complementary football. Why? B/c when Travis went down, that’s how they won their games & they certainly expected DJU to be a downgrade from Travis, but an upgrade from what they ended the season w/.

What they discovered was DJU is exactly what they expected, completing 70% of his passes w/ no turnovers, but nothing spectacular; but, they also discovered that OL wasn’t as great as they were built up to be, that running game is not as dynamic as last season, & that Front 7 is not as good as last yr. That’s a problem.

Make no mistake about it, DJU was bland af, but this was a team loss. FSU failed on two golden opportunities laid out by GT fumbling the ball deep in their territory. Not only did the defense not get the fumble, but they gave up the lost yardage afterwards resulting in backbreaking scores.

Now one of three things can occur:

A. FSU was overhyped and will falter or
B. FSU is a good team, but GT was vastly overrated
C. Both FSU & GT r bad teams, and week 0 exposed FSU & GT will come back to earth

I don’t put a lot of stock in any week 1 or 0 game b/c a lot can happen by the end of the season, but u would have to be a fool not to feel confident in our team’s ability to beat this FSU team based upon what we saw. Now, it’s our turn to make sure we live up to the hype. Fck FSU, & focus on us.

The teams that excel will need to be effective in both the portal and HS recruiting. You must have a solid foundation of players you're developing, because relying on the portal for over half your starters yearly will be wrought with selection bias.

maybe this guy

I thoroughly enjoyed watching FSU get beaten by GT, however, I am not going to come on here and say, "I told you so".

Lots of these same experts have assisted with the hype surrounding our program, and although I do believe we are far more talented than FSU. I want to see our gameplan, game management, etc.

As I said before, I feel like we are going to run the ball far more than many of us want to see us run the ball with Cam Ward as our QB, but I honestly do not care how the W comes. I want to see our defense dominate, and our OL dominate. I just want to see a clean game, and come out injury free at 1-0 to start the season.

difference is Miami has proven dudes in almost every position-group, along with quality depth. A lot of dudes on this site forecasted the regression of FSU after Travis and other key players departed, but the media went with the safe & lazy narrative of FSU thriving as a top 10 team.

FSU is a less talented team than last year after losing a QB that made up for a lot of mistakes and elevated the team; Miami is more talented than last year after signing a QB that makes up for a lot of mistakes and elevates the team.

We're on completely different trajectories; Mario isn't building a façade.

This is also why I said that I believe we are far more talented than FSU, and followed that by mentioning I want to see our gameplan, and game management.

I am extremely excited to hear we have a time management guy now...

And regardless of how much talent we have, we all know that Mario has to prove that he knows what to do with it, especially on gameday.

The big blame seems to be going to DJ because he couldn’t carry them when their running game stopped working. But that was never supposed to be the plan for FSU. They were going to lean on their running game and their “best O line in the ACC” to carry the offense. Except there’s no statistical evidence that their line was particularly great. They were average to below average in rushing yards per game, yards per carry and sacks allowed per game. So they weren’t great even with a difference maker at quarterback. Now that defenses don’t have to bother playing the pass, it’s going to be much harder for them to match even last year’s average numbers.
