From the Perch: LSU

There is no play caller alive that can make Rosier good.

Malik is going to limit you. Yes. But Richt isn't being considered for Offensive Coordinator of the year or praised among inner circles as an innovative genius either. This is a sticky marriage. It is both. That is just my humble opinion on the matter. They do not help each other out.

A better QB hits a lot of those open passes and our O looks a lot better. Now I’m not saying Richt is the best out there at designing an O and calling plays, but even the brightest minds that ever coached couldn’t make chicken salad out of chicken crap. Rosier either misses entirely, throws the ball limiting YAC, throws to the wrong guy, man this list goes on and on. All this O needs is a guy that can survey the field, make a decision then deliver an accurate pass. That won’t happen every darn time, but with Rosier it’s far too uncommon. An accurate passer makes a talented O hum. Rosier makes me want to stick my head under a lawnmower rather than watch his next pass attempt.

Hey @Roman Marciante & @HurricaneVision would love to get your thoughts on the 1 & 10 play at 7:26 left in 3rd quarter. Hightower was left all alone on a go route as the outside receiver. The safety was challenged by a post from the slot receiver to the same side and the corner let Brian go. Malik has time in the pocket looking down the middle of the field. Watching it live was infuriating, unfortunately the TV doesn’t show Brian wide open as he’s out of the frame. What’s the typical progression on this route combo?

Seems like you have a handle on it. But a good corner will jump off his #1 WR (typical cover 3) and will jump over top to help the safety if a couple receivers buzz his way. He is taught to read the quarterback's shoulders and play the combo. So until I see the play from a rhythmic standpoint, you really need to focus at the point of release where the corner was.

I just tried looking to see the play in the condensed version and I couldn't find it. I'll definitely get back to you on it. I'm curious.

7 carries for Homer just doesn't cut. Thought Richt wanted to run the football, incorporate the fullback. Most of us don't really think highly of the OL but if its never demanded of them to knock people off the ball they never will. Defensive coordinators just Tee off on us.

At least they can get a good look at all the QB's in the next game in a real game situation. I'm sure Rosier will start, but Richt has to give them all some time in the game. Miami is a QB and a reliable punter away from being a very good team.

That’s a great break down... It’s clear that the fake I’m cool facade is really Rosiers I’m scared ****less face. He can’t even see when his own teammates are telling him a blitz coming??

Cager was wide *** open on that pick six... why is he capping like he’s so cool and collected when he’s a scary *** ***** too scared to even scan the field for a wide *** open receiver with plenty of time to do it

Thankfully Trayone Gray got 3 carries in the game, now the three headed monster is intact. offense will be clicking on all cylinders come Saturday. by the end of the season hopefully all players will have gotten game reps. Deepest team in the country

Great perspective. But the most important thing you said in that write up... until there’s a change at Quarterback, nothing will change. Mark Richt is the safest Coach out there it’s no wonder why he hasn’t won a chip yet. If he doesn’t transition to Perry, Weldon, or Williams full time by Toledo then it’s obvious he’s not trying to win anymore. The WHOLE world can see that Rosier is just not meant to play football. In fact, rosier should be an upstanding guy and step down.
if he does not make this transition by Toledo , one or all of these guys begin to think of leaving , and I wouldn't blame them

Beautiful write per usual. And I'm all done with Malik at this point. Thanks for FSU but we need to take the next step.

As for OC duties, I know it hasn't been great but with at least an above average qb back there we score at 30 and LSU in turn doesn't get to 33 (three short fields and a pick 6). Just about every issue or trial we endured last night started and end with QB1 last night.

6-7 throws that go as they should changes the game massively:

Richards slant
Thomas acro catch that should've gone for much more
Brevin outside hash in the redzone
Thomas big gainer should have been 6
Thomas down the sideline should have been 6
Cager wide *** open in the endzone

Then every single time that boy called his own number instead of the first round talents in the backfield. Cmon dog.

I saw no example of hot read adjustments being made on offense. Our better qbs back in the day salivated and burned blitzes all the time.Rosier is too slow to react

Was just in a group chat discussing this same topic. I think you're spot on

My question is where do we go from here if all our QBs have warts?

Malik is not the answer
Perry needs discipline
Weldon needs discipline
Williams needs experience.

IMO as someone mentioned earlier next 3 weeks needs to be open comp between the latter 3. I worry about Williams outperforming not really because of the redshirt but I could see both Perry and Weldon transferring and leaving us stuck like ducks with one QB next year. But he might be the best option. Let him get his lumps now and be a stud sooner than anticipated. I’m hopping into a meeting so I can dig deeper but hoping this opens a convo as to what’s next.

Add that with the fact that miami is not taking a qb this year (which I think is a monumental mistake) then things can get dicey.

I would say recruit a qb for sure THIS year as the college season shakes down. Things could become available and get a grad transfer for sure next year.

That way if Williams progresses and gets the job you still have 3 QBs on scholarship.

Roman, great write up especially for those of us learning the X’s and O’s Of the game. If Williams is the best option, even as a freshman, then I say play him the next 3 games and have Rosier do nothing but throwing drills the whole **** practice. If Perry and Weldon can’t remain disciplined, then let them transfer. What could would it do to have one of them as the starter and have them suspended for a game due to breaking team rules? That would mean 1st team reps went for not and would throw the timing of the offense off by putting in the backup QB to start. Seems Williams is the only QB focused on getting to the starting QB status - let him play and take your lumps. Thinking this is a championship caliber team went out the window after that debacle Sunday night.

Perry might be more accurate and more dynamic than Rosier, but he appears in the doghouse. Weldon's ability is uncertain. Williams received accolades during the spring, but lacks experience. But, how do you gain experience if coach does not play you? I would start one of the backups next week, preferably Perry if his disciplinary problem is resolved. If Weldon or Williams is the most accurate, I would accept one of them starting. The season is not lost. A relatively easy schedule can still put UM in the ACC Championship game, and with a season of experience for one of the backups, the team might even surprise Clemson.

The OL was not as dismal as many feared it would be. The OL wasn't dominant, but there were occasions when Rosier had time to make accurate passes and he failed. Everyone saw these flaws at the end of last year. He fails to make the right read or misses open receivers. The first flaw might be correctable, but an off-season of preparation does not seem to have improved his reads. As for the second flaw, many football people say that you can't teach accuracy; you either have it or you don't.

I know it is a QB thread, but can someone please replace Feagles?
