When mulling the cleveland browns offer butch had this to say.

"I talked it over with my wife. You live a little bit in fear. I thought, 'Well, today they love me, but in 1997 they were flying a plane over the stadium, 'Get Rid of Butch Davis!'

YOU DID IT TO YOURSELVES HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Absolutely fly the banner. It was right back then with Butch, it was right when we flew it for Golden, and Richt deserves about 47 planes circling above the stadium and/or campus.

You’re laughing at the fact the program missed out on countless championships and maybe even not in this gigantic hole right now if he doesn’t leave at that time. Hate on Butch dudes as much as you want but him leaving was a seminal moment in this programs history and likely the reason weve been garbage ever since his influence has been gone.

"Ten days before we played BC [Boston College] in the last game of the season, we had completed 97 percent of the contract. It had taken us three hours to agree to the money. The stumbling block we could never get over was, if they decided to do what North Carolina did [by just suddenly firing him] they were only going to pay me 20 percent of the money, but because [Miami] had been burned by Howard [Schnellenberger] leaving and Jimmy leaving and Dennis [Erickson] leaving, so if I had ever left I had to pay them 80 percent. "

He wanted to leave for the NFL, his heart was never at Miami he was just too big a coward to admit it.

That's the reason he's dead to me.
We COULD have, and probably WOULD have won countless championships IF he stayed.
But he didn't.
I'm not laughing.

One of those coaches went on to be successful, rewrote college history , and started a CFB arms race. The other ate dinner 4 hours ago and has been in bed since 8pm.

Really, because he left for the browns. THE WORST EVALUATION OF HIS CAREER. He was literally staring at a UM team who's had more successful 1st round draft picks than Cleveland has had in 40 years and he still left. He was so scared of getting fired at UM he left for Cleveland.

He didn't even have ECU on the schedule on 2001 , he had nothing to be afraid of.

Stat of the day.

Larry Coker 6 wins vs FSU and VT. Butch 2 wins.

they hate a guy who SAVED our program. they were probably in diapers back then
Shalala was jerking him around because she wanted barry alvarez. our team walked out and demanded coker.
That troll Shalala is the ultimate piece of scum! Her legacy will for ever be the full destruction of the proud UM football program. She makes me sick!

I like Butch as much as the next guy, but its also 2018.

Miami needs to find the next Butch Davis or the next Jimmy, Howard, Erickson, Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, et al. Since Butch, Miami has had nothing but a bunch of LOSERS. All are varying degrees of good people with a fair share of acumen in certain aspects of being a coach at the P5 level, but all share a commonality...they aren't winners. They don't have it in their DNA to take this school to the top on their own merits. Blame the infrastructure - President, BOT, et al - for not being able to identify the DOG this school needs, but still, its fair to critique the head men for not having IT and unable to manufacture IT on the dime store budget allotted to them.

All I know, or care about, is that there are likely a dozen coaches available to Miami that would have this team winning at least the ACC with the talent-base available to them, even if they have to go to Option C by signing day. However, we are four incarnations of the same guy with the same results. Insanity by definition.

And Paul Dee. Him and Donna we’re both involved in trying to ***** butch over with the buyout versus him getting fired clause in his contract. It’s all documented in the book Cane Mutiny by Bruce fieldman. It’s a **** shame too because even though I had some issues with butchs game day coaching, there’s no arguing the fact that butch had this program zeroid in and running like a well oiled machine by 2000 and was built to last as he had the culture set up perfectly. No doubt in my mind he would have won 3 titles minimum. 01, 02 because he wouldn’t have been out coached by tressel like Coker was, and I think he would have won another one in 03 or 05. Fu<king UM admin ******** things up with a great coach again. Something the admin is so good at doing! Smh
