From the 🐐 mouth

We're saying the same thing in a different way. Once it's built, it's built. Once you change it, it's not he same thing anymore.

If you build a house, then tear off a section and re-do it, it's a different house. Apple is a different BRAND now than it was. McDonald's is the same brand, just much, much bigger. Sometimes you can build it and keep it built, others you need to change things up.

And I'm dying, hysterically laughing at the notion of Nike needing to push the edge or it's toast. They're one of the most recognizable brands on earth.

How'd New Coke work out? There are more established brands that have stayed true to their core and remained successful than there are brands that successfully pivoted -- one of the single most difficult things to do in business.
you’re not saying the same thing. You aren’t getting what I am saying.

Apple was a brand built on innovation. It has to stay cutting edge innovative or it loses cache.

Nike is an identity brand built on pushing trends. If it tries to get boring, it’ll fall back badly. Doesn’t much matter how recognizable it is today. Plenty of recognizable brands go backwards when they lose their identity.

McDonald’s has done a great job of being about kids and family. That is thencore of its brand and they’ve maintained that. It’s not easy.

point is, UM was built on edginess and innovation. It went away from both traits, and failed, predictably.

Randy couldn't hire an OC to save his life. Golden couldn't run a defense to save his life.

What exactly makes you think Manny Diaz is different. Manny is 0 for 1 on OC’s in the wake of an ā€œantiquated SEC offense requiring an NFL o lineā€ he goes and hires the exact same thing!

Well, it's a fact he's different than Golden because he fired his OC after one year whereas Golden kept his DC for 5, so there's that...

As for Shannon, he hired a bunch of nobodies at OC (wanna tell me what Patrick Nix is doing with his life) and Diaz hired a stud OC after making a mistake.

Sounds different to me.

So you're basically saying this just because they get paid a lot? What a dumb argument. Failure is on the individual and nothing more. You're part of the problem Ed is referring too. Always placing blame elsewhere instead of looking in the mirror
Placing blame elsewhere? If not the coaches who coach and motivate the team, and choose which players they want on the team, who? Who else should I blame?

It's not because they get paid a lot, it's because they're the adults in the room who get paid a lot to win. Their job is literally to make sure the team wins games.

WAY too simplistic thinking bro...

These kids COME to the university with attitudes/characteristics #1 built by their parent's first of all and by the crew they hang with....

#2 when they arrive to the school, the coaches then have a shot at training them on the physical and MENTAL parts of the game....ie discipline, curfew, etc...

If the kids are corrupted prior to arriving, it's likely they stay that way unless they have some progress in maturity and recognize the opportunity to really up their game.

Putting it ALL on the college coach to transform their mental state is asking way too much...

Kids need to be willing to learn and be disciplined and desire to be the best FIRST before a coach can help them get there.
So who's job is it to recruit and land kids who are high-character and coachable? If the kids can't do the job, doesn't that ultimately fall on the professionals who chose them for the team? The guys who are 24/7 football and said "hey, I think this kid is the answer to our problems"?

Nix was the GT OC that Shannon was so impressed with after losing to. Enos was the OC of Arkansas that Diaz was so impressed with after losing to. As a matter of fact, it sounds exactly the same. Shannon had no problem firing OC’s either. He fired Nix. Brought in Whipple. Former HC and current Pitt OC.

That structure and culture and all that stuff is the coaches’ responsibility. That’s why we harp on coaches so much.

At the end of the day, it’s the HC’s program. He sets the tone. He decides which players come here and which coaches lead them.

If you’re signing the wrong guys it is on you. If you’re letting **** slide it’s on you. It’s a results business. The successful coaches aren’t always crying about culture. They’re signing high character guys and leading them.

I agree. It does get very difficult to come in and change that culture that has been cultivated over the past 15 years. It takes a really strong personality to come in and set the bar immediately. Also some examples need to be made of a few people.

Maybe EReed can come in and immediately set that tone. Sure as **** hope so...

Booch David said repeatedly that his number one priority was great football character. That’s why he was able to eventually assemble the roster he did here. He made football character a priority.

It’s also why after he left that things went downhill on that front. ****er got enamored with the star rankings and started replacing guys like Wayne with Ryan Moore and Dorsey with Kyle Wright and the list goes on.
Lance Leggett......

The quotes resemble what you’d expect opposing coaches to say when they are negatively recruiting. An example of why you should leave home or avoid a place like Miami.

you can’t brag about the spot light of the city, take a recruit out for a night on south beach, have coaches show up to events on yachts and then act surprised we’ve got kids who are here to party,

to continue my point. We brought Jalen Hurts to a night club on his visit. The guy was known to be a student of the game who just wants to win and focus on football. Didn’t go to clubs.

he goes to Oklahoma where they only care about winning.

We take Tate Martell to the club and he falls in love with the city and attention.

He’s basically Left the team numerous times, enjoying the Miami lifestyle and started dating an Instagram model.

that’s on the coaches creating the wrong culture

Lance Leggett......

Lance was a great athlete that should have been a tremendous deep threat. Didn’t have a lot of wiggle, but could run and jump.

He got a bit too much diva in him and didn’t focus and fight for passes the way a guy with his physical attributes should have.

I knew him growing up. His attitude at Miami surprised me because his dad was a respected track coach and raised him right.

He wasn’t an anomaly, though. A lot of quality players from Polk County have not reached their full potential getting caught up in the college lifestyle and limelight.

Just wanted to thank Franchise for making the exact post I came here to make.

Nothing else needs to be said to the "it's da player's fault!" crew.

The scariest part of the culture talk is that Manure has been here for 4 years, so he should have been dialed all the way in on our culture and what needed changing. Instead, he let it deteriorate.

I, too, am hopeful Reed can be a big shot in the cultural arm. A lot will depend on how open Manure is to listening to what Reed has to say.

There was so much they did wrong with Martell. The biggest error was bringing a midget with hands the size of a premature baby and slightly larger than a US President in here to play dropback pro style bro. It was all nonsense from that point forward.

One minute Manure is praising Martell for changing the culture in the QB room. Next minute Martell is seeking resolution of personal matters in the middle of the season via Insta-therapy.

It’s insanity, Chise.

When you listen everything coming out of the Hecht and put all of it together, it becomes too easy to see this program is an out of control process that lacks a steady hand of leadership.

The narrative changes daily and the information released is contradictory. Classic evidence of in over their head leaders trying to save their skin in the moment against newly arsing crises.

The one thing gotta give Manny is he learns and adapts. If he figures out a way to get control of himself and become a congruent, solid leader for this team, he maybe, just maybe, able to turn this thing around and win some football games. He has to sack up, though, and it won’t be easy.

Unfortunately a part of me still feels that the ā€œlearning and adaptingā€ is just him avoiding owning the mistakes he’s made and is making.

Corey Flagg came from a winning program in HS, said all the right things in he recruitment, never waivered, produced at the highest level in Texas HS

yet

Posters on here say he sucks, is terrible, etc

The Flaggs of thefootball world are players you need on a team

Saw him on campus today on crutches with a giant brace around his leg. And Chaney had a shoulder brace like the ones people wear after surgery.

Agree man, that Gtech loss still haunts me from that year and the first game against FSU when we had the ball on the goal line and couldn’t punch it in For the win. Had we won that Gtech game and USC lost to ND like they should’ve we would have played for the title in the Rose bowl again. It would have been a tall task to beat Vince young that year but if we played like we played In the Vtech game up in Blacksburg that year then we beat Texas and win it all. What could have been. Smh
We undressed VT that year! Thought they were on their way then that GT game with those stupid jerseys from nike happened.

You gotta be kidding me with this unless you’re simply generalizing that most college athletes do the same thing regardless of where they are located. Drink, party, etc. To which I’d agree with you.

But that’s where the comparisons end with respect to athletes at the U and some school in Tuscaloosa.

- Our worst strip club in the area squashes anything Tuscaloosa can offer as its best ā€œstripā€ club.
- Our worst nightclubs dwarf anything Tuscaloosa would call their best nightclub.
- Our D list celebs squash any ā€œA listā€ celeb perhaps traveling thru Tuscaloosa. (Can’t imagine any real celeb choosing to root there)
- Our smallest yachts on open ocean waters dwarfs little nickys pontoon boat he takes players on that run out of gas on mud banked rivers.
- Our city has three professional sports teams (make that 4 when team Beckham opens up) whereas Tuscaloosa has none.
- Our city is full of hot exotic cars and temptation that comes with it. Tuscaloosa is full of dodge chargers and trucks.

Do I need to continue? Point being... Bama players ain’t doing and ain’t tempted to do anything at the level of a UM player in their respective locations. There’s a **** of a lot more ways to get distracted in the Miami lights. It’s apples to oranges.
Joy riding in a ford , is the same as joy riding in a BMW ,if you know what I mean . Anyway you'll be surprised at how much the players at Alabama has access to . I dont understand why some people think that Miami is the only place that a player can enjoy themselves or get distracted in.

I feel bad for Ed that he got pulled into this mess. He's not fixing anything. He's not qualified for the job (whatever the job is). None of these kids are listening to Ed Reed. To 18yo kids, Ed is just some old guy that was in the league. Those of you thinking he's going to come in and save the program are completely delusional.
