Fresh watch of IU vs OSU game - notes and how it's pertinent to tomorrow night

all i see on that tape is that there is at least one Taint receiver wide open on almost every play and yet Sayin can't get them the ball.

He refused to take the check down even when his receiver was all alone
Mendoza will not make this mistake. If he has time, and sometimes even if he doesn’t.

Penn State had a lot of success running play action out of pistol.

Also Penn State couldnt get any pressure rushing 4 and had to bring 5 and 6 guys.

Mendoza isnt a field reader he wants to get the ball out fast and or exploit 1 v 1s.

I had the same exact thought watching that game, which I'll talk about a bit more in a post I'll put up later tonight.

For all the glazing IU gets, they looked extremely beatable against Iowa, Penn State, OSU, and Oregon the first time around. OSU is probably the closest analogue to an opponent they've played compared to us, except of course we have better trenches and running game. OSU could not get out of its own way. It's astounding that no team scored after the 8-minute mark in the 3rd quarter. At a minimum, OSU should've won that game by ten points.

IU is experienced and extremely well coached. They execute at a higher level than almost anyone. However, they're not 2019 LSU or some behemoth. Mendoza isn't the best QB we've faced, and they haven't seen trenches like ours.
If both teams play their best, we win.

The Canes advantage is we have more talent. The IU advantage is the have a very senior, experienced team that plays with the most consistency in the nation.

If we limit turnovers/penalties we win.

If the referees even kind of enforce holding I don't see how they beat us. They need seven pass protectors to block Bain, Moten, Scott/Blay, and Mesidor if they actually have to block them. Carter Smith is not in Mesidor's league as an athlete or player and for as bad as that matchup is their RT's, they play two of them (Benson and Ajani), vs Bain are much much worse. Their RT's can't legitimately block either Bain or Mesidor without a TE.
