Free $$$ Whipple's team covers....again. 2016 Edition.

Look, I'm as fed up with this staff as anyone and think they all need to get on the next Metrorail out of here, but this stuff about making legends out of former coaches is getting a little out of hand. Whipple stunk when he was here and everyone wanted him gone. By listening to you guys talk about Whipple's offense and Randy's defense you would think we won a natty. We didn't, because both sucked. But today they are Ring of Honor inductees according to some of these people.

Blame Randy, okay....why not.

Sorry dude, Whipple sucked.

Even with faced directly with evidence to the contrary you continue to carry the water bucket.

Impressive.

No, I just refuse to argue with someone who has made up their mind about something their little video doesn't show. There's nothing out there besides internet myth / opinion that Randy handcuffed Whipple whatsoever after their sideline tiff. It most certainly wasn't the first time, nor will it be the last that sort of things happens between coaches.

Funny how Whip has been successful every single stop on his career path but dumb fvcks here still think he sucks.

Dumb fvcks.

He wasn't successful at Miami. Never made it to offensive coordinator in the NFL.

He's a good UMass level coach.

Whipple was about as accountable for his horrific QB play as Golden is accountable for his buddy on defense.

His play calling cost us a ton of games

Ur insane.

No he's right... Even back in 09, earlier that season we were killing teams with Epps and Graham but as the year went on he got away from the tightend... The max pro was also caught on by our opponents rather quickly... The guy was stubborn with the deep ball... Our opponents safeties we playing like 35 yards back... However, if J12 ran more that would have opened up the field... The guy wasn't innocent... His arogance did him in...

No, he's not right.

Whip was handcuffed by Randy. The blowup on the sideline going into the half when Clemson blew us the fvck (hyperbole) out in 2009 forever changed the way Radio allowed Whip to call games.

Start vid @ 45:20

@ :20 left in the half stupid fvck Radio calls a TO. Stepping all over his OC's toes. Whip didn't want or need the TO there after the clock stopped on the first down. Thanks Randy you cvnt.

Whip called a great game that game. Blandy's D fvcked us.

It was all down hill after that.

Whip is gonna make a ****ty UMASS team look respectable.

Hahaaa he had some bad games... "Handcuffed"? Says who? If anything RS gave him too much freedom... That video says nothing about being handcuffed... I remember that game... It was a shootout... 2 men practically beat us that game... CJ Spiller and Ford... No one else did anything... However, some of the plays against one of the top defenses in that game were questionable which resulted in turnovers... We should have definitely hit the tightends more during that game... However, whenever we turned the ball over we came back with a big play... Whipple went brain dead at the goal line in OT... His play calling for the UNC game that year was quite awful as well... 09 wasn't a bad year for Whipple I actually liked him... However, 2010 proved how arrogant and stubborn he was withe max pro play calling...

Bull schit. He balled here. Check his stats homo.

Wow, I didn't know anyone existed in the world that thought that Whipple "balled" at Miami. Very strange and amusing. And what stats are you referring to? Jacory Harris' 32 combined interceptions in two seasons under Whipple? Miami's nine losses over the two years he was offensive coordinator?

His work was so great at Miami that it propelled him to the pinnacle of coaching, UMass.

Whipple wasn't great by any means, but he's a million times better than Coley.

Fisch is the only really good OC we've have in the last decade.

Again, our staff sucks. You don't need to prop other ****** programs to prove a point.

Whip got smoked by a bad BC team on opening weekend.

And yes Whip > Coley, no doubt about that.

I agree for the most part. Fisch wasn't great yet but was on the doorstep to producing a good college offense. Coley is elementary.

Whip is coaching a team in it's 2nd year of FBS play.

And they look light years ahead of us.

Enjoy.

Whipple was easily the best recent offensive coordinator. His balance was perfect for a warm weather pro style attack. Those teams should average somewhere between 35 and 42 rushes per game, depending on a few variables each season. Whipple was smack in the midsection, averaging 36 one season and 38 in the other.

We would hurry up and run the ball when the opponent was vulnerable. I remember when the late season home game against Duke was going badly and Whipple smartly turned to a steady physical diet of Damien Berry up the middle. The game turned into a late rout.

Fisch is somehow cherished around here but bottom line he simply didn't run the ball often enough. That would have limited our upside each season. In 2012 we averaged 4.7 yards per rush yet only 9 teams in the country had fewer rushes per game. That's mind boggling ignorance. Fisch by all indications would have kept us in the low 30s in rushes per game. That's simply no chance. He bailed before his proper reputation caught up to him. Fisch apparently didn't track the rushing attempt history of his mentor Steve Spurrier, who has always had a higher number of rushes per game than conventional wisdom allows. Heck, in recent seasons Spurrier has often been into the low 40s.

We ran counters under Whipple and all types of sophisticated run and pass schemes. I always felt like I was watching a terrific design. Someone has already mentioned the clever plays he used against Florida State and Oklahoma in 2009, including sliding the tight end across and underneath for vital first downs on key third down plays. Unfortunately Clemson was ready for that play. I was afraid they would be.

It's certainly true that Whipple's offense needs a quarterback with a better downfield arm than Jacory Harris. He was overly stubborn in that regard. I don't care. I don't believe in the conventional wisdom garbage of adapting your schemes to fit your personnel. Do what you believe in and take what you want. If Whipple's career here had been considerably longer he would have thrived once he had a quarterback who could make all the throws. Fisch would have been constantly making minor adjustments and going nowhere with his 30 or 32 regulating rushes per game.

Good post, but in my mind Fisch was a much better play caller than Whipple. They both got too cute sometimes, but Fisch in general called a good game. He could've run more, however he did do a nice job keeping the other team off balance with lots of play action. Whipple had some head scratchers. He was way too deep ball happy. How much of that can be attributed to Randy... I don't know.

One thing that has really stuck with me regarding Fisch was the ND game from two years ago. He came out so aggressive. If Dorsett catches that deep ball who knows what happens. We probably don't win, but at least
Fisch wasn't playing not to lose. Thinking about that the other night while watching Coley **** his pants with fear versus UL made me sad. He has no business calling plays at the college level.

I really wish we had Fisch last year with a healthy Morris. I think we easily beat Florida and maybe win one of the Duke/VT games.

Now that I've bothered to look up f'ing UMass.......they are 0-2 and haven't played a lick of defense. Cooi, they got caught up in a shootout with a horrible Colorado team after getting blown out by Boston College. So where on earth did the OP get the idea that "Whipple's team looks much better than we do"??????? Does anyone here really think that we lose 30-7 to Boston College?

Again, I am as anti-Golden as anyone.....but can the comparisons with other coaches at least make a little sense?
