Frank Ponce

“Frank Ponce, Frank Ponce” in my Jim Mora voice. Bro, you could have brought Kyle Shanahan or Lincoln Riley in here and our offense would have stunk. The QB play was horrendous and the oline play was 2X horrendous. We look better this year due to personnel. We ripped Gatis but he didn’t have any tools. You see what TVD is doing now too. It wasn’t all Gatis last year.

Anybody notice that frank Ponce has app state as the number 17 ranked offense currently, would have been nice to see what he could do as oc at Miami if Mario would have fired gattis mid-season given Ponce a shot seems like gattis basically tuned him and had his analyst coaching quarterbacks.
Don't know if anything would have made much difference in offense last year with OL. Pretty obvious it was the biggest problem last year and huge upgrade. Been able to still stay in game and win some even with poor QB play

We put up 31 on UNC while taking an entire quarter off, fumbling a TD on the 1 foot line. Weird fanbase we have here.

It's weird thinking they have the same talent on offense that we do.

I mean they could, but on paper it shouldn't be that way.

I'm impressed with the way the Dawson train is currently running down the tracks. Would Ponce be an improvement, possibly but we'll never know. It isn't out of the realm of possibility though.

No one was going to have success here last year with our players on the offensive side of the ball.

It isn't out of the realm of possibilities but I'm more inclined to think that Ponce would be a Yes man to Mario in his style than Dawson is.

I think some of the schools of thought about how it seems like the offense is morphing back into a bunch tight formation running bro style are being proven correct.

The reason for this could be because TVD just doesn't have much juice to spread the ball around. I hope and wish the self scouting aspect of the job has Dawson realize TVD's last 3 outings he just cannot consistently push the ball downfield to the right players and we need to get the intermediate and TEs schemed open. Strategic with the shots sure, but clear the space out for easy throws and roll TVD if you must for 5-12 yards easy completions. He certainly has the yips from standing in the pocket with time to make a sandwich.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the offenses performances lately, but continuing to do what we are doing is going to see us very lucky to win another game. Maybe Mario went overbearing after the GT debacle and is trying to meddle with the O again. I would like to think Dawson would tell him to EAD on that one though.

Did you bother to check that we're 19th in total offense??..

He put up 34 on North Carolina not saying he should be oc but I believe Mario should have given him a shot last year as Ponce runs more of a spread scheme then what gattis was running

Sorry Frank, but you have the stench of Gattis and a bottom 5 offense on you.

App State is the best thing for your career sir; good luck!

Im with @mcnaire2004 on this one.

Ponce was a solid hire for UM. Sadly he was stuck under a buffoon of an OC. Had the situation been different, I could see a scenario where Ponce might have stayed here as OC. The situation Mario was in after last season was such that Mario had no choice but to bring in a more proven play caller.

It would not surprise me if UM and Frank Ponce cross paths again in the future.

All true.

We had a manureload of problems on offense last year, …. But blaming Ponce for them is a bit like blaming Noah for the Flood.
