Apparently Ponce and Diaz are friends, that's his sauce.

God no! Terrible hire for OC. The dude married Christine Cruz from WSVN, and has been begging for a job in South Florida and nobody has hired him. Manny needs to get out of his comfort zone and hire someone competent & innovative instead of hiring some homeboy he grew up with in Miami.

I respect what he did this year but that was one season. Riley did it multiple years with lesser talent. Then proved it again on bigger stage, its not the same. But its done at this point, lets see if he can run a team and not just a unit.
 
Is Ponce a great QB technician? Everyone knows the QB’s at UM have received zero development.

And I seem to recall about one month ago everyone on this site jumped all over the Memphis coach that’s never called a single play for OC. Went to Auburn. So it’s okay with that guy but Ponce sucks. Yeah, okay then malcontents.

Gus Malzahn is calling plays at Auburn. He called Purdue will call next year

How would people feel about Applewhite as OC and Ponce as QB coach? Because that seems very realistic.
 
Passing yards per play- 95th. As long as he can teach the QB's to hand the ball off?

Briles was behind the offensive success at Houston. Applewhite sucked as an OC. I don't know much about the App St offense but looking at the numbers they did it by running the ball. I want an OC that can light up the scoreboard in the air with all this skill talent, just once. What's really the point of a QB coach, who's QB couldn't throw the ball?

Ponce can’t be the playcaller , especially if manny is as smart as everyone says he is.

I could see him coming in as a co / oc or qb coach. While getting a nice pay bump.

Applewhite didn't suck as the OC. His offense is one of the reasons Herman got the Texas job. He had dynamic QB in Greg Ward who is now a practice squad WR/Free Agent. When Ward was healthy the Houston offense was really good. The question is does his offense need a guy like Greg Ward to be really good or can a lesser talent still be really successful.
 
Most likely just Pete jumping the gun to feel relevant again. Guy probably gets offered QB coaching position with some made up title (pass game coordinator or whatever) to justify coming. Will not call plays. Manny is smarter than that.
 
Typical UM bull**** coaching staff hire, if hired, bunch of tight wads, don't want to spend money for a proven winner. They better get it right with this staff, especially the OC. The pressure on Manny will be greater than Mark, this fan base wants to win now! Sick and tired of changing the channel in the 3rd quarter of a Canes game because we look like the walking dead. Would rather be watching the Canes win, instead of Naked and Afraid.
