I believe he will take his game to another level this year and play himself into a day 2-3 draft pick. In his first year in Guidry's defense he lead the team in tackles with 82, lead the team in tackles for loss with 18, lead the nation in sacks by a LB with 7.5 and was named All-ACC Second Team. With another year to understand this defense better, I really think he can take his game to the next level.

I wasn’t aware he led the nation in sacks from the LB position. Hopefully he is 100% recovered.

We need his experience and leadership!

Needs to improve in coverage. That comes with better recognition. As a blitzer he is pretty darn good. Should be much improved overall this year.

Very similar player to Shaq Quarterman. Able to quickly diagnose plays and get into the backfield. Very good tackler once he gets a hold of you. Limited athletically and struggles getting sideline to sideline or when forced to cover smaller, quicker running backs.

Mesh wheel to his side of the field all day.

Most NFL LBs struggle to cover smaller quicker RBs 😂. He’s much more explosive and finishes better than Shaq. You don’t make 25 plays on the other side of the LOS if you can’t get sideline to sideline.

He gets better depth in coverage than Shaq did while here. Finishes in the backfield better, too. Maybe part of that is a more structured scheme.

Quarterman made 19 plays behind the line in 2018 and another 16.5 in 2019. Getting into the backfield has nothing to do with sideline to sideline speed. Mauigoa has a significant weakness to his game and it’s coverage. He’s weak in coverage, even for an ILB. He is good at getting after the quarterback. Most of his sacks came because he was in man coverage with the running back the back stayed in to block. When that happened, Kiko had the green light to rush the passer.

We dont need him to be a combination of Fred Warner, Ray Lewis, and **** "Night Train" Lane all rolled into one. He has a great chance to be All Acc first team which should be his goal. And if that happens, rest assured this defense played lights out. Let the NFL play out how its going to play out. Worse comes to worse, he can be his little brothers money manager or something.

So 20% less? You compared him to Shaq, a multiple All Acc LB. I said he’s better. You proved it. Shaw also played cleanup behind a DL that never saw a gap they didn’t shoot.
He made plenty of plays out on the edges. He also had barely any protection from his interior.
Where exactly are you getting the data that he’s significantly worse than other college LBs? Because that’s why guys like Trotter fall, because they all suck in coverage. Has way more to do with modern offenses putting the MLB In conflict than it does with his drops.
Here’s some pretty good film to counter your “sideline to sideline” BS

Diagnosing plays is the most essential trait to play LB. I'm glad we're finally getting guys like that after years (mostly under Manny) of trying to convert DEs to LB.

Francisco M. is literally the first guy we've had with strong diagnosing skills since Shaq and Pinckney.
