“I’m pretty sure I’ve never had a coach make a case for a guy quite like Mario Cristobal did for his five-star freshman offensive lineman: “Greatest muscle density in Miami history.”

The Canes have had their share of Freaks over the years, and Cristobal has been around some elite big people in his playing and coaching career. The 6-6, 341-pound Mauigoa only has 20.9 percent body fat and has 270 pounds of lean body mass. His agility for that size is even more remarkable. His 1.72 10-yard split would’ve been the second-fastest time recorded for all 300-plus pound offensive linemen at the 2023 NFL combine — and the only guy who ran faster, BYU’s Freeland, was just 39 pounds lighter. Mauigoa’s jump power registered at 9,274 watts — the highest Miami has on record. His “jump momentum” is 462 kilogram-meter per second (kg.m/s) — also the highest Miami has on record. He bench pressed 425 pounds and front squatted 500, which is tops on the team.”

As much as we can all agree that Mauigoa is unreal, am I the only one feeling like a true freshman shouldn't be leading in strength categories?
Sagapolu leads most categories and he isn't very good so not sure added strength actually is all that helpful compared to hand/foot speed, agility, bend, technique, aggression, etc

while I agree with you, kid is an absolute freak... he also had a faster 10 yard split than every 300lb+ OL at the combine a few months ago...

Never heard of tracking ‘jump power’ or ‘jump momentum’. Interesting.

Francis is a freak of nature.

I cannot wait to see him on the field.
Not a knock on FM, but that’s probably why he holds the records in those categories …. Not something measured for a long time, if at all.

True, this may be something they can now measure with new technology. ImpressIve nonetheless.

IDK how it looks like in comparison to other teams tbf
The 425 bench isn't tops on the team. Only the 500 pound front squat... which is unreal.

I was at Mizzou for a brief period when Drinkwitz first took over and our max squatter was around 560 (back squat). I don't remember seeing anyone even attempt a 500 pound front squat at any school I've ever been at. I remember a guy where I played doing 455 and I thought it was insane.

Tracking jump power and jump momentum had only been done for a few years on record prior to my time there and I don't remember exactly what they were on average but I don't remember seeing anything in the 9,000s ever. I doubt those metrics go back for us very far considering we just got a sport scientist on staff in 2022. Missouri got into it in 2015 or 2016, for comparison.
