Sir, respectfully, I don’t think you understand the importance of a major division one football program owning and operating their own stadium. There is a revenue component to this as well that i have touched on ad nausea. Lets just agree to disagree and hope that the new AD, having been at Clemson, knows and understands the importance of UM doing everything in its power to put themselves in a more advantageous position. The last thing i will say is that if you follow NFL football or professional sports in general, such “random” events are far from random.

No one doesn't like the concept, the problem is that it's unworkable anywhere near campus, and it's cost prohibitive unless someone pays full freight.

It might be unworkable almost anywhere in Miami-Dade, to be honest. Taking off my orange and green glasses, one of the few places I could have seen it would have been the Melreese golf course. But then the airport and the FAA, blah blah blah. The unfortunate fact is that Miami-Dade is full, and there is a ton of NIMBY-ism, especially the closer one gets to campus.

Eventually, something is bound to happen where HRS is no longer viable. A new owner, maybe wants a new stadium, maybe wants to move/relocate, maybe wants to charge UM more money. Its going to happen. And how embarrassing would that be for a top program like UM if it is left scrambling to find a new location for the SECOND time? How embarrassing would it be to have to ASK FIU to share?

I know there is this weird enmity between UM and FIU, so I'm well aware this is a crazy idea, but what about a co-owned state of the art facility at Tamiami Park? At least it has Turnpike access........and unlike Tropical Park, it's kind of a crappy park to begin with, so it wouldn't be ruined by a stadium.

It’s the same recycled discussion we had years ago. The team struggles, attendance lags, the excuses begin for Miami needing an on campus stadium. In 2017, the stadium got renovated, the team was good and all of the sudden nobody cared about an on campus stadium anymore. If they want to build a REAL stadium somewhere down there, go for it but I’m yet to see any plans that would logistically work. It’s just a pipe dream for people in southwest Dade who don’t want to drive to Miami Gardens right now.

The con job was Diaz Sr. convincing our dumbass fanbase that his poison pill offer was legitimate and then blaming the University for not spending hundreds of millions of dollars to renovate a facility that we would NEVER own. That's the con. By the way, the deal they made is one of the worst deals ever made for a sporting facility by a municipality. I'm convinced the typical Miami fan hates the University so much, they will believe anything, if it furthers that narrative. The City of Miami screwed the University, all to give a baseball franchise a sweetheart deal on a boondoggle.

Again, what does the City owe us, Miami football and its fans? The Phins left long ago and there apparently wasn't enough money coming in to keep the place up to date.

You keep getting stuck on semantics. It's the cities, not ours. We can reasonable expect the place to be kept up, but as tenants that's it.

When they wanted to wash their hands of it, they made an offer and that's their right to. The offer as I recall was for structural work that needed to be done. We couldn't come up with that amount and truth be told, why would we? Long term it was likely unsustainable in combination with the money needed for improvements.

Should tax payers be forced to pay for the needed improvements? No, they shouldn't.

Phins place was much like the OB in that we are tenants once again. It's our only option unless the University and those with money want to foot the bill to change our situation.

We have literally no gripe to make. It doesn't matter what deal was made with the Marlins. They repurposed the site and that's that. Your feelings don't matter here. Poison pill, it's cute sounding, but we had no chips lefton the table.

I don’t know. I’m no engineer or civil planner or… those people do exist though. Pay them the big bucks to figure it out.

The thing is, I (nor should anyone) really don’t care about how long the drive is or the traffic. Those are just useful excuses for people who don’t really want to be there anyway.

I just don’t understand the point that we have to be one of 4 or 5 schools in the country that doesn’t have our own stadium. If the new money billionaire wants to break his bank to get it done, what’s the point in arguing about it? (Unless, of course, you’re a nimby **** from CG or a broward driver that enjoys the convenience of having the University of Miami play its home games a well hit 3 wood away from Miramar).

everyone understands the business side of it and how important it is to control your own destiny, but anyone with a half-functioning brain knows that unless a massive chunk of blank real estate pops up in the middle of a dense city, there is nowhere to put one. again, what is your solution? where could we feasibly put this stadium?

all you have to do is follow the beckham project to see why this will never happen for us. they came up with multiple sites and have been given the runaround or been outright stonewalled for years. and this is for a 20k seat stadium with a soccer training ground and all sorts of other family-friendly **** thrown in.

Those same taxpayers are now going to pay at least 3 times what UMiami had requested, for Marlins Stadium. Oh, did I mention that the Marlins put up **** near nothing and receive all the revenue? At least with the OB renovations, the University was willing to chip in, in exchange for an ownership stake in the facility. The University and City would have split revenue, so not only would it have been cheaper, the City and the tax payers would have gotten some revenue, something they aren't getting from the Marlins.

Amazing how you refuse to note how the City had no problem taking the worst deal on the table, mostly because it benefitted the politicians personally, because Loria bought them off. It was the ultimate con job by the Lorias, and the politicians.

they can't. the two most vocal people arguing for it on this thread have both said they don't have ideas of where it could go but someone else should figure that out. i'm with you. i dream about the canes having a place to call home where real revenue is actually made and traditions can be built, but it's never going past the dream stage barring a miracle. and even that miracle will more than likely require financially bullying some people out of their homes or businesses to accomplish, and that wouldn't sit right with me. the only place i'd be happy about is tropical park, but i can't see miami-dade being willing to part with the land.

If the dolphins move, the stadium doesn’t have wheels to move with them. We become more valuable, not less. It still needs as many concert and sports tenants as it can get. The market decides the price. No business man is just gonna out price it’s customers, or they won’t have any. And they aren’t tearing it down to build condos. It will be there for a long time.

The City Of Miami would've been screwed either way, we would've been left holding the bag for the renovations, too.

And it didn't start with Diaz Sr....Jankovich went to The City and asked them for $16M to make renovations to the OB, they only gave Him $7M.

Mayor Clark went to The City and asked them for money to make renovations to keep the OB Game in the OB, that fell thru.

Diaz Sr. might've been the final nail in the coffin, but He's not the only one to blame.

You want my harebrained solution? Fine. Move wellness center/dining hall/cobb/im fields etc to west lab lot and build the stadium right there. Plenty of room. Knock down sunset place and put a 10000 car garage there. All the “Kendall” people could just park at dadeland and take the train. Double deck US1 from red road to 95. 5 billion dollars? Who cares? We’re rich now. That’s my solution. Someone send it to Ruiz.

Your opinion being based in reality is fine, but realities change (the year:1920. A man? On the moon? Hahaha!!! What are you gonna do? Build a ladder?
