For those who wouldn't like the Applewhite hire...

He's never called plays. Jon Richt "grew up" around a fairly elite program with UGA. Did that mean he was a good QB coach when given the opportunity?

Jeff Scott does call plays. He’s not the primary but he does call plays. He called the game winning play in the NC a couple years ago.

The Jon Richt comparison is just dumb and you know it.

He's never called plays before but that's ok, we don't need anybody with experience.
I didn't know that you were on the team. Plenty of OCs start from nothing and do great. This guy has been learning and gameplanning for one if the best teams in the country. He knows what he is doing.

We needed someone with experience, Manny is giving him the keys to the car.
I'm sure Scott will do fine in the future, but not now and not for us, I bet he still at Clemson next year.

At this point with the news that Kingsbury is interviewing for HC jobs in the NFL, it MIGHT mean he resigned as USC OC, in which case I'd wait it out and see if he goes unhired, which would mean I'd hire him with a ******* quickness

Don't get the Love for Scott, zero experience, didn't even call plays, he was number 3 on the depth chart as far as coaches and assistants. He would of been a terrible immediate hire, Manny can't call plays, we needed someone with some type of play calling experience.

He has a hand in Clemson's offense. And from what I've heard, he's called some plays at Clemson.

The whole calling plays thing is overblown sometimes. The real issue is experience and philosophy. Calling plays should come easier when you have the former down. Also, I like the talent that he was able to pull in as a recruiter as well.

I agree that he will be at Clemson as well.

I’m starting to get on the Jeff Lebby hype train. I think he’s going to become a good power 5 OC very soon!! With him I just see a lot of potential with the coaching tree he’s been under and the fact that his best coaches is years ahead of him. It would be great to get a guy like that early because you know you could get 3-5 years outta him if he’s solid before he gets looks as a young HC somewhere smaller.

I like Applewhite though. Has HC experience, learned under Herman and has seen Briles system first hand (Lebby knows the Briles stuff too). Plus he’s got a lot to prove, the failed HC stint should motivate him. Everyone thinks he just **** the bed at UH but that team was downright not very talented aside from Ed Oliver who wasn’t helped by that defensive scheme. In 2017 UH was some close games away from 9-10 wins.

Lazy hire. We didn't even put out any feelers to see if Sean McVay would be interested.

No idea if Scott can call plays or not, but no chance he’d be as good a recruiter at Miami as is at Clemson. There’s other factors that allow him to be such an elite recruiter.

1. Bags
2. Recruiting S Fl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Too much shady **** goes on behind the scenes.

Who would you have hired instead?

- A coordinator who doesn't call plays in Jeff Scott?
- A retread like Jedd Fisch?
- Relatively unproven guys such as Brian Wight or Jeff Lebby
- James Coley? (LOL)

I may have preferred Fedora given he's more experienced but Applewhite checks a lot of boxes for me. He has HC experience and his offenses at Houston were some of the most prolific in the nation
Lol yes to Scott a million times over. Yes he may not call the plays but he is in charge of all the pass attack and you better believe they go back and forth in the game with calls. With Applewhite we are getting a guy who just gets fired everywhere and is riding the names of the guy who hired him and the guy he hired. Neither were his offenses. At least with Scott we would get a great recruiter and he can point to developing NFL players and is cerebral in the passing attack there at Clem. All we get with Applewhite is a guy who keeps getting hired without any results and argues with his top player about a **** coat. I'm unimpressed

All the guys coming out against Applewhite either can’t give a viable option or produce candidates with just as many or more question marks than Applewhite. We just want to be mad, I think
