For those asking about the grass in the new stadium

Pretty amazing the transformation and the speed!! That's good ole fashion hard work and manpower!!!

Paspalum has been getting a lot of play due to it's salt and water quality tolerance. A few local golf courses have gone to to Paspalum varieties for just that reason. The color in the pictures is awesome!

Platinum TE Paspalum, introduced in 2007 by Turf Ecosystems and Dr. Ron R. Duncan, revolutionized the turfgrass market.

In just a few short years, Platinum TE now covers the globe with projects in six of the seven continents. This genetically improved paspalum is perfect for installation tee-to-green. Platinum TE is an environmentally sustainable, salt-tolerant turfgrass with superior appearance, playability and maintenance benefits for golf courses, sports venues, and other turfgrass areas.

Product Features:

Shiny, exceptionally dark green color
Very fine leaf texture
Exceptional canopy density
Superior low light intensity tolerance
Rapid rooting and establishment from sprigs
Aggressive grow-in from surface stolons
Excellent general foliar disease resistance with proper management
Tolerance of a wide range of mowing heights
Distinct genetic profile seperation from all other paspalum cultivars
Minimal seed head exsertion in response to day length/photoperiod changes or environmental stress exposure
Platinum TE Paspalum Characteristics

Platinum TE has the finest leaf blade with excellent green color that can be closely mowed to heights below 1/8 inch.

Water Quality Tolerance

The most outstanding feature of Platinum TE is its exceptional salt tolerance. It will proliferate in soils irrigated with water containing 5,500 ppm of salt.

Disease Tolerance

Platinum TE has superior disease tolerance, outperforming all other paspalums.

Weed Tolerance

Platinum TE spreads quickly during establishment and forms a dense turf which will compete with the presence of weeds when properly maintained.

Insect/Pest Tolerance

Platinum TE is susceptible to insects that feed on foliage of grasses.

Establishment

All paspalum selections are sterile and must be propagated by transferring stolons or sod.

How is it for speed? Our old OB turf was kept very, very short to enhance speed of players and give bigger advantage from our speed. The cow pasture are Joe Robbie did the opposite.

I thought they spent $400M on renovations and allocated none of that to making sure the most important element, the playing surface, would be functional.

Grass is already pretty much dead. These guys could **** up a cup of coffee.

Someone took a Zamboni to it.

Which would be fine if this was a hockey rink. These stupid idiots thought they could irrigate the field using a zamboni and now we might have to play FAMU in Orlando.

They are probably top dressing it with sand to fill in the cracks between the layers of sod they put down. The grass will then fill in quickly and become seamless. Open air edges tend to dry out quickly.

The grass can be mowed below .125 inch which is probably a lot shorter than they'll need for a football field.

Haven't played(golf) on this type of paspalum yet, but the seashore type was aggressive growing. Have also heard of this being used at several courses for greens, not only for the saltwater or brackish use, but that it can take a pounding.
