I have seen a lot of posts about Hurricane Matthew, whether or not the game should be cancelled, and plenty of other stuff which has imo brought some negativity to the board. I wanted to stray away from that talk as the game approaches in less then 2 days.

Decently long post so read at your own risk.

- I think in order for our defense to have confidence throughout the game we need to get early stops, and get Francois of his rythym early with our Dline pressure. The confidence that our young LB's can get after early 3 and outs is a major key to their success throughout the game.

- If we are to have any success against FSU limiting turnovers is in my opinion the main priority. In big games and frankly in any games the turnover battle usually decides the outcome of a game as football is played through momentum swings. It is imperative early that we are able to force turnovers and for Brad to keep the ball safe.

- Kaaya needs to have success early and get in a rythym. The RPO's IMO will be a big part in Richt's gameplan as it has even been noted Jimbo calls them "illegal" plays. Getting our players in space ie. Ahmmon Richards and Stacey Coley will help the rythym of the offense flow.

- Having a big boy like Marquez Williams at FB is important in getting the FSU LB's out of the game. We all saw the highlights of Matthew Thomas jogging on a pursuit play. If we can get those boys out of the game mentally then we shred them and what better for the Canes than to have a 270 pound hungry FB coming at them full speed.

- Establishing the Line of Scrimmage, that is the **** that will win us the game. If our ultra talented DLine can get to the QB and cause havoc on run plays, the game is already in the bag. Any team that is a worth a **** has a dominant performance at the LOS on BOTH sides of the ball. This is where I get worried, while our OL hasn't been the worst it certainly hasn't been the best. However, I think the OL shows up to play and causes holes for Joe Yearby and Mark Walton all night.

- The UM vs FSU rivalry has been extremely close these past two years, and some would say we should have won the games in 2014 and 2015. In 2014 we had a comfortable lead going into halftime where we should have put them away. Now I think our staff this year WILL NOT let the game get carried away after a lead and will keep the players in focus.

- Another big thing is keeping to the gameplan and running what is working. In 2014 we saw Duke Johnson get some nice early carries and Kaaya was shredding the secondary. Heres comes the second half and for some reason it felt like our offense went away from everything that worked. Richt as a playcaller has been in big games before and will not let it get to that point.

- Special teams will be more important than people realize. While we don't have any burners on Special Teams atm, I think a key play like Deon Bush made in 2014 is paramount to those momentum swings I was talking about. Jesus Wilson will once again be the returned for FSU and he was the one who fumbled in 2014 after Deon Bush put him to sleep. Jesus Wilson isn't a slouch and with having so many young guys out there on Special Teams it is important that Field position does not go in their favor whatsoever.

- Our 4-3 attacking style defense is going to eat up FSU all night. We have a rotation that imo is one of the best in college football at the DT and DE position keeping everyone fresh at all times. UNC was able to get to Francois why can't our ultra talented/coached DLine do the same. I believe it will do the same and even better. Coach Kool has these boys ready to eat.

- Attacking FSU up and down the seams with their weak secondary. David Njoku and Herndon need to have the game of their lives. I hope all this talk about Richt keeping it vanilla saving for FSU is true because these boys need to get involved. On the flip side, our secondary needs to cover and needs to help tackle Cook in Run Support.

- Stopping Dalvin Cook is the forumla to success because they are riding him till his knees break. I dont blame them either as he has shredded us in the past. The difference is we are not playing a bend don't break defense anymore and we have 3 freshman LB's who are eager to feast on FSU.

- Overall I would say getting Kaaya in a flow, establishing the run game EARLY, limiting Dalvin cook, and turnovers are the keys to success in this game. Another thing, the hype for this game is the biggest I've seen in recent memory and the fans will be ready to show out which play a huge factor in the game Saturday Night. You see it all over the media but this game determines if the U is back or not and these players know it.

- Mark Richt will have these boys ready to play. Richt comes from UGA when they were on top of the football world and playing in huge games, bigger then UM has that's for sure. He knows what's up, he knows how to get players ready physically and mentally and he will not let our players lose track of what's at hand and that is "Whooping the other man thats across from you"

Breakout Players: Kaaya, Coley (always shows up for FSU), Njoku, Chad Thomas, Jaquan Johnson, and I actually think Colbert has a good game for us.

Sidenote: With Hurricane Matthew going around and FSU trying to work their way around it, is extremely beneficial to us. Players that aren't in a good mojo and are tired from traveling and dealing with outside sources usually carry it onto the field, it's just human nature.

TLDR; We Roll.

You beat me to it.. Just made a thread asking for actual football talk for once

Here's some good insight from a Noles site about the defensive problems they had last week and throughout the season.

Florida State film review: Defense v. UNC - Tomahawk Nation

"Observations:
•A positive takeaway from this game was the play of the defensive tackles. Derrick Nnadi, Demarcus Christmas and Walvenski Aime all played very well, particularly in the second half vs the run. This is big for FSU to be able to get stops on first down and put the opponent behind the chains on 2nd and 3rd down. Fred Jones did not have his best game and did not see as many snaps as a result.
•The concerns at linebacker are still there. Matthew Thomas still struggled in his run fits and missed several key run/pass keys that led to him being out of position in coverage. True freshman Dontavious Jackson saw his fair share of playing time, coming up big on the 4th down stop for FSU. Perhaps we will see more of him as he appears to have earned it.
•Josh Sweat is clearly not healthy. He was effective in anchoring and playing the run but is a liability in space as he’s unable to re-direct or move very well laterally.
•FSU has a glaring weakness at the Star position. UNC had a similar gameplan as Louisville to attack the edge and force Marcus Lewis to take on blocks and play physical, an area he still struggles. In defending the pass, part of FSU’s plan was to play Lewis man to man on Ryan Switzer in the slot. Switzer is an elite college slot receiver and Lewis was clearly outmatched. Though Lewis has good coverage skills, he does not have the ability nor is he refined enough in his technique to cover a player like Switzer. FSU brought true freshman Kyle Meyers in at Star for a few series and he had his share of busts and eye violations as well.
•Cornerback Marquez White did not play well. FSU played more Cover 2 to the field and used White as a force defender on runs and passes to the perimeter. White struggled with his fits in this role and was unable to get off blocks effectively. He doesn’t have the physicality to consistently win in those situations and teams are smart to go at him.
•FSU misses Derwin James(duh). Nate Andrews plays hard but is limited physically. He has average speed and overall athleticism and teams are able to take advantage of this. It is most evident on perimeter runs/passes where Andrews is asked to trigger and run the alley. Closing speed (or lack thereof) at that position can be the difference between a 2 yard gain and a 7 yard gain.

It doesn’t take a film review to recognize that the entire secondary is in disarray. But after watching the film more closely, here are two specific areas where we can recognize problems:

•Lack of Communication: A clear example of this is the blown coverages vs stacks or nasty(tight) splits by the receivers. The two defenders playing the stack have to communicate and be prepared to pass off or stay on their man as the routes are distributed.
•Lack of Awareness: Improper alignment by the corners was a big issue vs UNC. Pre snap alignment of the corner is dependent on where the ball is placed(on or between the hashes), where the ball is in relation to the endzone, and what blitz and/or coverage is called. There is no excuse for misalignment from a corner at this point in the season. The other area we see lack of awareness is in relation to where the sticks are located on key passing downs. The location of the first down marker should dictate the coverage technique and/or the depth of a drop in zone, particularly on third down passing situations."

These are all good points, but you might have just said that we need to do all the things football teams try to do. I think we win if we do just a few of those.

I heard that. I thought there'd be fewer threads just whining about **** after the season started so well, but not so much. There was actual complaining after we dismantled FAMU. Yeah they suck, but ****. If you can find a complaint in there, especially being the new coach's first game, you have problems.

As for football: beyond keeping cook from ******* embarrassing us, I think this game is more about the intangibles. I think it just comes down to our guys knowing they will win and their guys wondering if they can. I remember a player back in the early 90s saying that every year fsu thinks they can win while Miami KNOWS they will win. Do that, we win.

FSU offense is better than alot of us our giving them credit for. They can light it up w the best of them. I think they try to air it out on us to set up Cook. Hope we're ready.

If they do try and air it out against us, I think our DL has a phenomenal game. Not sure if Francois can stand in the pocket with Thomas and Jackson coming off the edge.

It's a simple as swarming cook a on first and second down and then rush the QB on passing situations, long yardage especially. You can win if the QB goes off but they struggle running. Just don't let cook beat you. Richt will figure how to attack their D. Just don't turn the ball over. We should be able to run and throw against them. Kaaya have to make quick decisions when the play breaks down though

Our program is nothing like last year, so forget what happened in the past. We have--for all intents and purposes--a new football team. The only thing you need to consider is we got better and they did not. If these young men come out and execute, we have too much offensive flexibility and defensive toughness to lose this game. I fully expect to be ahead when the clock strikes :00. I think it would take an out-of-character performance from both teams for the result to be otherwise, and I just don't see that happening. My only question is will FSU quit.

That pre-schooler has taken a beating the entire season and keeps hanging in there. We're going to get our licks in, but we can't underestimate him. In all honesty, we need to try and knock him out the game somehow. I'm more concerned about him and the passing game than Cook. We know what Cook can do to us. But Jumbo ain't dumb. He's gonna try and set up quick and intermediate throws for Francois and get him throwing on the run. Our Secondary is gonna have to have a big game.

Wouldn't say it's that simple.

We have a penchant for letting up at least one or two big jaunts per game and with Cook those are going to be house calls.

Gotta be discipline in our gap assignments. We're going to give up plays regardless because of our style, but we need to limit them.

Looking at their past opponents I wonder what the replacement is for the lack of a mobile qb. Play action or what?

But on a side note, has anyone noticed how good kaaya has been selling the PA fake this season?

The option play last year when Deon chose to take out the QB is a perfect example, I hope these young LB and our S stay on their keys on plays like that, instead of going for the Hero play. If deon sticks with cook its a downed play at the LOS, in turn it ended up being a long TD.

Our up-tempo offense will kill FSU.

Yeah I really hope for a couple of drives Richt just spreads it out with Coley, Berrios, Richards, Njoku and just lets him air it the fvck out!

You don't necessarily have to go Air Raid if you go uptempo. Go uptempo, spread them out, get them looking around and lining up late, and gash the **** out of them with the run game.
