Florida Senate panel approves school, sports choice bill - Orlando Sentinel

A Florida Senate education panel approved a bill today that would give parents the opportunity to pick any school in the state for their child, whether for academic or athletic reasons.

The bill aims to let parents enroll their child in any public school that has room, even if it is outside their attendance zone or outside their home county.
There goes any little balance in public schools that remained...

Teams like Lakeland, Plant, Seffner Armwood, and Miami Central will now do what they always did, but without getting penalized. In Dade, I'd expect southridge to become the Miami Central of the south. Billy Rolle and his staff are full of coaches that can bring in players, which they're already doing.

Hate to see it happen, but I can eventually see SFL football create a powerhouse league, similar to the ones from OOS (BNU, PAC5, ETC...). The lower tier teams will have no business playing against these schools.

The remaining limits that were holding some of these schools back are now gone. It's now a legit wild west of hs football.

What in the **** have they created? This is crazy

The liberal facists will hate this.

You can't give people choices. How dare you.

Good.

The failing mismanaged schools will be gone.

not about choices. Its logistics for parents. If the school a block from my house has no space and i pay a ****load in property taxes and special assessments because its a good school, i'd be ****ed as **** if they said my kid can't get in do to space.

This is bad for upper middle class people. If I move back to S FL to an area with great schools, will those schools not have room for my kids because so many out of neighborhood kids will be there?

"Choice" sounds well and good until it creates a ******* zoo.

Very good. You got the facists on the left where they really are. Most people wrongly refer to them as right-wing, but that is old commie propaganda.

This only hurts the families that need better schools close by...This is so short sighted. Not sure how anyone on either side of politics can't see that it hurts inner city families. It could hurt middle class families too. Imagine if the only school for your kid becomes an hour of commuting every day.

that being said..**** yeah it is going to create even more dominant football powerhouses. so at least we got that to root for?

I'm for school choice but this is far from actually happening. A committee in the Florida House just passed a bill that'd essentially ban all abortion in the state. So when you see these things and they're only in the stages of having to have the words "panel" or "committee" attached to them then just realize that they're far from Rick Scott signing anything.

What the **** is it with all the political bull**** filling the forums lately?

If you wanna discuss it, go to the WEZ. This is a football board.
