Florida is latest state with proposed legislation to pay student-athletes

The IRS hasn’t stopped them from paying illegally. That’s going to stop them from doing it legally? What kinda stupid are you?

The IRS didn't have access to players, because they weren't paying taxes, because they weren't working. Bags could be dropped because there was/is no "paper trail". Now, players will be earning income and as a result they will be paying taxes and subject to the IRS.

Payments from boosters will still be illegal. So how will a player hide a large payment from a booster/ Billy Bob auto shop? There will now be a paper trail. Sources of income will have to be reported. And a large cash payment is highly unlikely.

The IRS will not allow players to get paid thousands of dollars without getting their cut.

Wrong. They won’t do it that way. They will do it through appearance fees and speaking fees. Booster clubs will contract with recruits to come speak at a booster meeting for huge sums and there is literally nothing illegal about that and nothing the IRS can or would do about it, except of course require the kid to pay taxes.
As this is still to play out in the courts, there may be limits to how and how much can be paid out.

Miami seems like a great place a 4* or 5* could grow their brand. The glitz and glamor or SFL kinda lines up with this new proposal.

If your looking to grow your brand nationally (jersey and likeness sales nationwide), UM would be a excellent school to choose to play ball at.

What makes you think payments from boosters will still be illegal? It’s not illegal today, it’s just against NCAA rules. However, with these new laws, booster payments will be opened up because it’s nearly impossible to distinguish boosters from non-boosters.

one of UM’s biggest donors owns Fountinebleau lol... don’t underestimate the great things this could spell for us.

S.Fla is scam capital, they’ll find ways to line these boys pockets up with this new added benefit (if) passed as law.

If the proposed bills are for Florida and Cali then how would Alabama be involved??? The players in Bama wouldn't be able to market themselves...

ding ding ding!!

Hard to market yourself nationally In Tuscaloosa when other kids are in LA and Miami and ATL and cities in Texas. Bama will get theirs, but others schools are also gonna load up.

Florida should push to make it, where the player can only profit based in the state they play in. Which would really help us lol

You’re missing the entire point. The NCAA has no rule anymore over here kids. Anyone will be able to pay them from buying into their brand. It’ll be easier to pay the kids than it ever was legally.

Still on the fence with it. Once the final rulings are out, I would like to know if there are limits to who the money comes from, what they get paid for and if there is a max amount they can receive. This could be great for us, or possibly be somewhat bad, IMO

Would you rather be playing football in Miami, Los Angeles, etc. or playing in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Athens, etc.? Once everyone is allowed to pay recruits, things will get better for the Miami's and the USC's of the world.

Settlement agreement between who? The states and the NCAA? If so, the players would just sue and win.
Maybe, maybe not. If they're classified as amateur athletes there could be limits to what they could earn. If the "amateur" is removed, then they wouldn't qualify for scholarships and we have a totally different animal.

If UM was smart, they would be calling around to see who wants to be the exclusive inaugural members of the player sponsorship club.

We wont ever outbid BAMA or Clemson cause they care more about the success of their programs. What we could offer is a chance for players to play in a real city and enjoy their newfound income at places over than the town diner and campus pub. Players will have the opportunity to network with the same people will be as pros, instead of at a small town business they wont visit after draft day.

I honestly think this could help and/or hurt us depending if UM is proactive about the new world of cfb. Manny seems to be an excellent marketer. We have an opportunity to even the playing field!

Are you stupid?

Payments by boosters are bribery, a Federal crime, what do you think the whole Adidas scandal was about?

Looks like we are both partially right. Yes, booster payments are illegal today, but only because they are against NCAA rules. Under these new laws, which will force those NCAA rules to change, it will no longer be illegal.

Also, the crimes the people in the Adidas scandal are being charged with are not bribery. It’s mainly wire fraud and money laundering.
