Florida football coach Jim McElwain revealed Monday that his family and players have received death threats amid the program's 3-3 start.

"There's a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of anger," McElwain told reporters during his weekly news conference in Gainesville. "And yet it's freedom to show it. The hard part is obviously when the threats [are] against your own players, the death threats to your families, the ill will that's brought upon out there."

Supposedly one Gaytor fan said he was gonna poison his toothpaste but then realized...

Gotta wonder how much of that is true and how much is played up by coaches when backs are to the wall amidst a garbage season.

Wouldn't put it past those Gators pukes, but in the same breath, wouldn't put it past McElwain to trump that up in effort to get the attention of the crap job he's doing and onto the fan base for being "unruly".

Florida fans are really some of the worst. I legitimately had to end about a half dozen friendships during the Tebow era as they were some orange and blue, Kool Aid-drinking, delusional maniacs.

Again, these were the same idiots that in 2001 tried to tell me Miami would've gotten rolled up by Florida in the title game, but they lost the Volunteers in a rescheduled game pre-SEC title weekend and never got a crack at the prize.

Nooooo, please don't fire sharkboy, he just needs more time to get "his" players. You know you build a program brick by brick, according to Al, and that takes time, at least 10 years. Just send in shalalalala for a contract extension, stat!!! :monkey-serious:

Death threats? I thought they said we had the worst fans in the world because of plane banners!

Oh well, at least they can still claim to sell out every game, right??

On Monday evening the story took another interesting turn, with Florida releasing a statement about his comments.

"The University Athletic Association takes the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and families very seriously," spokesman Steve McClain said in a release. "Our administration met with coach McElwain this afternoon and he offered no additional details."
