2024 Flip Watch Thread: Mario "We Have a Lot of Guys We're Fixin' to Flip"

Michigan is hitting up front on OL and DL, they matchup well vs OSU. OSU is all DL most of the time but Michigan has found a way especially on OL. Thing is when they meet UGA they get blasted cause osus DL ain’t ugas DL especially in the middle. Them dudes had Carter and Davis bruh and they both went to the eagles. Eagles are sitting pretty for a big window to win.
And I can point to Michigan beating up Taint in 22 and then that same Taint team almost beating the champs UGA if it wasnt for a BS targeting play on Harrison Jr. Reality is that football is a complicated sport, there are a ton of variables that go into what makes a program win. Amongst other things, its culture, preparation, X's and Os', talent acquisition that fits your system, evals, gameday execution and management and finally luck. If it was all just recruiting, then Urban Meyer is never needed as Zook had that sewn up.

Reality is that its way way more than that. We saw that last year with Gattis in comparison to Rhett the year before. Rhett had an offense perfectly suited for TVD and made the kid shine to the point that people were saying first round talent. Gattis took over and ruined the kid because it just didnt line up right. Now take a look at us this year, we start out hot and then it falls apart. Take a look at what happened at Bama... ole sneaky Satan and his offense looked liked **** and out of place. After the Tejas game it looked like this may finally be the beginnng of the end of that dynasty. Dude had his brand new OC adjust what they were doing to fit Milroe's skillset and magically they have looked way better and havent lost since and the team that was lined up to lose 3-4 is now potentially looking at a playoff birth.

This season wasnt about talent for Saban it was about pivoting when things werent working because dude has the pulse of that program at his finger tips. We sometimes like to make things simple when it pertains to something that just isnt simple. This goes for Mario as well. We sure as **** know that Mario checks a bunch of boxes, its juts he appears to missing some important ones as well. Hopefully he improves though because if he doesnt, get over that final hill will be difficult. We know the roster should eventually be stacked but saying thats enough IMHO is off base.

Absolutely true that Mario got Miami to open the wallet.

If Manny Diaz can win 8 games at Miami, then Lane with SFL athletes better be able to beat that in the ACC of all places.

Miami was going to have to open the wallet no matter who they brought in, it’s the nature of college football. It more likely than not would not have been opened for Kiffin like it has for Mario but the next head coach at Miami was getting some type of a boost in resources or the school would have had to admit their aspirations are to be wake forest in football.
They went all in on Mario. Remember the word was that if Mario said, "No", then we weren't gonna fire Diaz. They were fully prepared to continue to try to do this thing on the cheap. After last year they probably would have fired Diaz, and hired some other small school guy, or P5 coordinator hoping that he could be the guy to "Bring the U back"! Probably not giving him much to hire a staff, or recruit with either. in 3-4 years, we would've been firing his ***, too. Wash, rinse, and repeat. This was a group effort. Vilma, Kirk Herbstreit embarrassing them, and the money guys, and finally Mario.

No they wouldn’t. Probably in the 13-20 range.

Did jimbo ever win anything at Texas A & M with all his recruits?

Did Hugh freeze win anything?

Did Mario change oregons recurring or did chip kelly? By the time Mario got there they were a nationally established brand. Two natty appearances in the past 10 years when he got there.

Again, with a straight face. Do you honestly believe Kiffin only wins 8 to 9 games at Miami when he’s won 10 twice at ole Miss.

If you think he only wins 8 or 9 at Miami you’re saying that Miami is a worse job than ole Miss is btw.
See that’s where the you don’t see it, Mario would 100% have Ole Miss in the top 10. It’s what he does. You’re looking at on field results, even when you bring up Oregon… Oregon had NEVER had a top 10 class until Mario took over.

I think Lane could win 9/10 games at UM consistently. I don’t think Lane could ever get us to the heights we want. Crooters croot & if you don’t stack back to back top 10 classes every year you’re competing for conference title as your ceiling.

No team outside the top 10 in total talent has ever won a national championship since the metric began being calculated… it’s legit so simple. If your coach can’t recruit top 10 classes you can’t win. Can you lose with those top 10 classes? Absolutely. Can you compete for a title without it? Not even close.

If you want to win 9/10 games a year and look pretty doing it Lane is your guy. If you want to win something people remember he’s not it.

Do you know what ole miss was before he got there?

A complete nothing burger of a program.

Do you know what they will be once he leaves? A complete nothing burger of a program.

Programs have ceilings and ole miss is at its absolutely ceiling right now.

It’s why Miami is still relevant because our ceiling is national powerhouse.

You guys are obsessed with recruiting rankings. Scheme and development exists too.
Its tough because on message boards recruiting season sells more scripts and drives more views than anything else, its the nature of the beast.. So that drug, that high is very valued, some might say more than actual season/games..

in other words, offseason championships are a thing for a reason around here.. and we back 2 back 2 back champs :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

Imagine Kiffin with freakin Ole Miss in one of the toughest divisions in sports, doing something thats never been done at their school TWICE, struggling with the universally known dreg of ACC.. Its incredible

Would you not agree some schools have the ability to recruit at that level and some dont? You make it seem Ole Miss was recruiting at perennial top 10 level and kiffin got there and they fell off a rock. its disingenuous. You actually prove he is doing more with less. Ole Miss never won 10 reg season games, he did it twice with lesser talent in tough division.. Ill take it over being 7n5 with more talent than 90% of ACC yearly..

247 began tracking data in 2015. Over the last 8 years no team lower than 10 has ever won a natty.

Not sure what Auburn in 2010 was ranked but had two top 10 classes in a four year span (9th in 2007 & 6th in 2010) before their title.

Based on the metric this year (out of teams with a playoff chance) the winner will be
- Bama, UGA, OSU, Texas or Oregon.

Ole Miss won 10 games with Freeze, and had two top 8 classes in a three year span. It’s been done there and could be done again if Lane could recruit.

Like I said it’s only half the battle - obviously gotta coach and develop… but don’t defend Lane like “he doesn’t have as much talent” that’s his fault, Ole Miss spends. Kids just don’t want to play for him. He makes it work and does his best though.

Hugh Freeze had 34 wins his first 4 years at Ole Miss. Lane has 33 wins his first 4 years (with bowl game pending)

Never done? That’s a stretch

It took the perfect storm. Great opening for the U part 3

Quick fix. He’s a gimmick. Like I said, higher floor but much lower ceiling.

Lane has been at Ole Miss for 4 years now (with like you said - good results) yet somehow can’t raise the bar.
Ole Miss was 25th in total talent before he arrived, sitting at 23rd for this year. 4 complete cycles & Ole Miss is still the same.
I hate to do this in this thread but can’t raise the bar? Ole miss had 2 10 win season from 1993 to 2020 and they have had 2 in 3 years with lane…If thats not raising the bar idk what is

Raised the bar at fau too

His ceiling isn’t high because he wont ever get a shot at the top jobs in cfb today

Then Texas A & M would have won more than 7 or 8 games.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Jimbo's issue was he couldn't hit on a QB like he did at FSU with Ponder, Manuel, and Winston

The year he finally had a quality starter back to back in Monds they went 9-1. His QBs after Mond were trash outside of Weigman who was hurt. In TrumpyCan'e opinion if Weigman doesn't get hurt they beat Tenn, Bama, Ole Miss

Bruh a friend of mine is a UCF fan always sucking their **** and never believes me when I tell him every year they legit have zero chance to win because of their recruiting. Every **** year.
