fletcher and toney locked in for next year? - Fletcher said he'll be back

Glad to hear Fletcher is staying for his one remaining year. He’ll make good NIL money and help take care of his family’s future. He could declare for the NFL draft, but running back is not a demand position. I mean, let’s face it, he is not Barkley or an elite level running back by NFL standards. There are very few of those guys in the league right now.

Barring injury, he could play one more year of college football at a program he loves, in front of his family, an experience he won’t get back.

He can then give the NFL his best shot. I think he could have a solid NFL career.

Fletch could probably get 4 mill in the portal if he wants to hunt for cash.

To me he has been one of the best Canes of all time. He gave up being the featured back to allow others to get touches. Such in unselfish player and great young man.

Selfishly I want him back but it is time for him to be that featured back. So I wish him the best in his NFL career

Think it's good and smart decision for him to stay and get another big NIL check. NFL is all about getting the second contract & pension, but with how short the shelf life is for RBs and that he's at best a late round draft pick this year, better longterm to take the bird in the hand now and just invest it.

IMO Fletcher is Day 3 no matter what

Another big 1-2 games in the CFP - I could see 4th/5th RD

Before Texas A&M I would've said 6th/7th/UDFA

Two factors I'd consider:

I'm assuming he'll have "ok" workout numbers. Good or bad workouts can tip the scales a round or 2. He should have an idea of what his numbers will be & take that into account

Texas A&M's run defense was terrible the 2nd half of this year. But no one's been able to run well on OSU. If Fletcher's has a big game vs OSU, that'll be huge. I'd cash in on that momentum.
 
Does anyone know the approximate average guaranteed % of the rookie contract for later round (say rounds 4-7) are?

I know first round picks are guaranteed by rule, and more second round picks are starting to get fully guaranteed deals.

4-7 round picks are slotted between $4-4.8m 4 year rookie contracts.

If Bell gets a second/third round grade (I don't think my first round prediction gonna come true) that's $5.5-9.9m, with the possibility of it being fully guaranteed if he's a high second round pick. Considering his age, he'd probably be wise to go pro, even if the guarantee is only 50% of the lower end. I'm sure our offer is great, but I can't fathom we'd pay him more next year than he would get in his first year in the NFL with the signing bonus included. (Maybe the no state income tax in Florida would make it closer, since there's a low chance he'd be playing in state with no income tax next year in the NFL?) And if he shows out during his rookie contract I think he'd get a fair amount more guaranteed money in his second contract if he were one year younger.

For Fletcher let's assume 50% guarantee and he's a Round 4-7 pick, that's $2-2.4m over 4 years or $500-600k/yr (with some front-loading cause of the signing bonus). 2026 money would probably be a wash between college/pros (no state income tax again in Florida might tilt it towards more after tax income in college). Would get insurance if he returns so at a minimum if he somehow didn't get an NFL contact after '26 he'd have his 2026 NIL money + insurance payout. I think it makes sense for him to come back. Am a bit biased though lol.

Here's the: 2025 NFL Rookie Contracts by Draft Position

1st pick of 4th RD - 4 yr / $5.4 M / $1.1 M signing bonus
Last pick of 7th RD - 4 yr / $4.4 M / $101k signing bonus

It's the guaranteed money & it's hard to calculate for draft capital - but the higher you get drafted the more likely you'll a chance at PT and a better shot at a longer career.

But Day 3 is a bit of a crapshoot no matter where you're drafted. This year:

4th RD RB's - Jarquez Hunter & Trevor Etienne - barely played
7th RD RB's - Crosky-Merritt & Brashard Smith - played pretty consistently
