In that context you’re correct. But in Fleming’s context state’s is indicative of multiple games to win the title, not multiple states. State’s not being a singular event. It’s all about context. Writer could’ve helped out by using State’s in stead of states. But it’s trivial to say the least.
Also here’s an example of similar terminology. An athlete stating they’re aiming for World’s in their bid for the World championship. There’s only one world to which we compete.

Fleming is my favorite WR commit in the 2020 class. Kid is fast as fugg.

When you have CB’s playing you 10 and 15 yards off the ball and you’re still Mossing them, you know that you got the juice. Kid is special.

Palm Beach Central isn’t the same team this year. Their HC from last year took a HC job in Georgia, a bunch of their better players transferred to other schools.
