Fire Shannon Dawson

Why is bauman even in the game instead of having 4 WRs?

I swear I've never seen a COLLEGE team refuse to take TEs off the field - Who are BY FAR your worst starters on the entire roster! - more than us.

2 Minute drives and we have Bauman the most useless receiving weapon on the roster by far on the field. And it's not like we were a threat to run at all where you can ask for him to run block....

I'm not sure we went 4 WR like more than 5 plays all year. And you'd think KNOWING Lofton was out we'd have added that a bit....
I promise I’ll ask the question in private when I get the chance. You could have run that same play with josh Moore as number 3. It changes the formation only slightly because I believe bauman started tight but it’s just simple trips

Jacobs and Vaugn should be clear upgrades at outside WR over Marion and CJ. Wingo and a more experienced Moore and Upshaw will help to make the offense more dynamic. The TE as receiving option can't be any worse than it was this year. Agree with @E1k that our offense was severely limited all season by our outside WRs. The rare times we caught them in m2m tonight we couldn't win/screwed up outside: the CJ 3rd down pass that #22 broke up, Moore running the screen wrong (which should have been a TD and was a fantastic call by Dawson), Marion against Ponds in the 4th down the sideline, etc.

Dawson probably wishes he had called more wide zone and less duo, but you also have to give a ton of credit to IU, they did a great job defending duo, and when they didn't their LBer leg whipped Fletcher and didn't get called for it.
Im in the minority on everyone thinking a TE is super important to our pass game, our slot is our #1 wr and operates in the MOF, thats usually what TEs are for.

I do think we need one thats better than bauman and lofton, but i doubt we will find one like arroyo which is basically an elite wr that can also be in line and block…Blocking from the TE is a more important contribution to the run game than it would be for our pass game.

People can’t get over not being TEU tho lol but they should be seen as a bonus

Also just another reason Bauman is our worst player.
Man nobody wants to throw to that dude as the #1 option in this moment....

I see why the play was designed for him to be first read. But god ****. TE was atrocious for us this year... And then we chose to completely ignore it in the portal this year.

I'll make a bet right now that after Spring a TE unenrolls from somewhere and ends up at miami for summer

Of all the things Bauman can't catch, I hope the bus back to campus was one of them.

Bro idk what the gameplan is next year dude. TE room right now is literally Lofton, Gilbert, Mueller. We didn't even go for Dorian Thomas or Foley.

.... And I swear if we went 4 Wide and pistol we'd have an even more dominant run game. Obviously that's not something I'd want to do OFTEN. But like especially OBVIOUS passing drives, and time to time to get lighter boxes out of defenses instead of just letting them constantly jam the box like teams were doing all middle of the season against us....

I mean this guy probably doesn’t score. But he has 3 choices to make and they’re all open. If you let it rip to baumann he gets you to the 10. Or you layer it to CJ. OR just hit Mali, he went to the only wrong choice here fella’s. Idk what to say. EVEN THE CORNER KNEW HE WAS IN TROUBLE (**** of a player that guy is)

I’d assume you’ll see more of what cam liked to do if the rumored QB is our guy. And hope lofton bounces back.

Bro regardless how important you think TE is as a true threat in this offense, the reality is we utilize 1-2 TE on basically every single play. And you need a guy who is a threat on clear passing downs too. Just is what it is. Why the **** are we going to say it's okay to have an obviously bad starting TE group when they play this much and are used so critically in the run game? Like at the end of the day Bauman was liike 7th most snaps on the ENTIRE ******* OFFENSE this year! That is not an exageration. If that's how often a single TE is going to be used, we need a top player at TEU. Simple as that. They can't be that much of a liability. Period.

Thats my hope.

I think Mensah will significantly increase our Pass Explosivity. Which will signficantly aid the run game as well. Which will be important as we lose Mauigoa/Anez/Bell on the Oline. Brockermeyer imo not the biggest loss in the run game specifically, but was decently athletic and good pass blocker. Was good (except when just straight getting overpowered) like 85% of the time....

As long as we are diverse in the run game and are able to attack 10-20 yards down field I like the offense for next year.

But man MORE ******* PISTOL TOO. I swear to god I'm taking crazy pills. 2 years in a row we didn't run any pistol the first half of the season then finished with pistol and our RBs start having their best games of the season...

Like man look at ponds. He is literally in a panic. That play worked.
It was just obvious Beck decided pre snap he was taking the shot to Marion (like he has multiple times this year, even though it has NEVER WORKED!!!) no matter what and that he wanted the glory of the big game winning throw. LIke we all know that's what it is lol

Yes there is if the defense is showing cover two…..which they were. On that side of the field was Marion and a CB and a safety. WTF do you think they are running? Either cover 2 or cover 2 man.

I mean you’re right except that means that Marion drew the CB and safety which means Beck should have been reading the boundary… where he would have found a clear path to Toney on the dig route.

Not necessarily an elite play design but actually simplifies Beck’s read. Ironically.

Yeah count me as 1 that wants Dawson gone

1) Who you hiring?

2) "That guy" that coached the #1 pick in the draft and Beck to success. Uhmmm.....he's gone and what's your pitch to our next QB?

Their success wasn't all his doing, per se, but we went through a pretty brutal stretch of guys (by comparison) b4 these last 2.

Firing people's pretty **** easy but what's the longterm plan you got?

I hate it so much man. Their best defender is in a full sprint and willing to give up whatever to CJ cause he realized the conflict they were put in. The play worked. The QB.. well. Whatever man

On to next season.

Up to Mario to win the handful of recruiting portal battles remaining and bringing back the important pieces.

EDGE, Nickel, and RT are the by far biggest losses to this roster next year as of now. And at RT we know the plan, will just have some growing pains.

There will be several upgrades though.... And luckily I think Qb will be a big one.

Love fletcher coming back. That’s huge. It would be even better if we didn’t have to hide Gerard Pringle. He’s too good. Gotta get him blocking

Yeah blocking is obviously the most important thing the TE does in Dawson's offense. Bauman's block that sprang Fletcher's long TD added more value than we lost when he dropped the ball that Ponds lit him up on.

We do run him deep on passes a lot so I appreciate what @Calinative is saying. Pretty pointless when he isn't really a threat.

I think the simple and correct answer as to why we didn't have 4 WR on the field at the end of the game is because we don't really have 4 WR on this team, which gets back to your original point that Dawson did as well as could be expected with the WR talent he had on this team. Josh Moore caught 4 passes for 28 yards since the NCSU game. It's really tough to argue Dawson made a mistake not having him on the field for the final plays of the season.

Carson just does not have the heater to rip that hole shot even if he did see cover 2. Gotta go Mali or Daniels there. Don’t blame him for not trusting 87. Just not the right guy to throw to

The spacing is terrible. Trips should been on the field side. Smh just frustrating

We had 280 yards of offense in the 2nd half against one of the 3-5 best defenses in the sport.

But yes, can’t go scoreless in the first half.
or go scoreless vs TAM (Half) or Syrcuse, Stanford for long stretches....

Absolute mid at best play caller, it would be tough to downgrade if he did go.
