I’ve seen what Sherman saying.. and you’re conflating two things. Yes.. you sink with the vertical.. again.. the play caller does not know what is called by the defense when he calls the play.. there is nothing wrong itself with a vertical route solo on the backside.. you are wrong

Yeah. We overloaded the the other side. All Beck had to do was read the safety. Actually, all he had to do was place the ball correctly even missing the safety.

I’ll never know and Dawson will never say but I’d swear the game plan was to not let Beck make a mistake that changes the dynamic of the game.

As frustrating as it was, it almost worked.

And whose to say if Dawson did open things up earlier another game changing pick doesn’t happen sooner?

This is not to bash Beck because he got us this far… but you can’t have watched the whole season and not been nervous asking asking him to read and attack the whole field.

Yes there is if the defense is showing cover two…..which they were. On that side of the field was Marion and a CB and a safety. WTF do you think they are running? Either cover 2 or cover 2 man.

Gilbert was a 4 star. Mueller is a top 150 player and a top 10 TE

Also just another reason Bauman is our worst player.
Man nobody wants to throw to that dude as the #1 option in this moment....

I see why the play was designed for him to be first read. But god ****. TE was atrocious for us this year... And then we chose to completely ignore it in the portal this year.

I'll make a bet right now that after Spring a TE unenrolls from somewhere and ends up at miami for summer

Well it wasn’t for him. I put this on Dawson not for the design but for the personnel. The design was fine. The play was for lofton

Gilbert hasnt shown anything and doesnt move like a "Miami TE", I am hopeful for Mueller but his film showed he was playing against ALOT of po lil timmys, there is gonna be a curve for him.. We NEEEEED someone ready NOW..

When is last time we had true freshman TE ready to play? You banking on the guys playing som emidwest ball against future mailman and accountants?

On Beck’s INT, Marion was the only receiver on that side. Daniels, Toney, and Bauman were bunched right. IU had a cover two on Marion’s side and since there wasn’t a designed receiver going into the flat, the CB stayed with Marion. If Dawson designs ANYTHING for the flat, Marion TD. You can’t call Marion to run THAT route without another offensive player running something in the flat to make the CB peel off of Marion to cover it.

That’s why Dawson isn’t elite. And he will never be elite. And next year, with Mensah, his arm talent will overshadow Dawson like when he had Ward.

There was no trickery there. Beck under threw a pass that shouldve went to the pylon, not to the hip of Marion. He was in full stride and would've had to come back for that pass. Safety was not touching that ball if Beck put it out in front of Marion.
 
I have a hard time taking OC's who call plays from the sideline seriously. The sideline is the worst seat in the house. I guess it can work if you have a really good spotter in the booth who you really trust but.......I just don't get why you want to be on the field when you can have a much better view of defensive alignment and coverages from upstairs.

Why is bauman even in the game instead of having 4 WRs?

I swear I've never seen a COLLEGE team refuse to take TEs off the field - Who are BY FAR your worst starters on the entire roster! - more than us.

2 Minute drives and we have Bauman the most useless receiving weapon on the roster by far on the field. And it's not like we were a threat to run at all where you can ask for him to run block....

I'm not sure we went 4 WR like more than 5 plays all year. And you'd think KNOWING Lofton was out we'd have added that a bit....
