Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

No, I'm actually claiming ~100% of the roster wasn't worth keeping; the initial 40% and a vast majority of the 60% that remained.

'Winning five of the final six games' sounds impressive until you realize we finished that year 7-5.
You’re proving my point. Calling nearly 100% of the roster worthless is a subjective, after-the-fact excuse, and finishing 5-1 is relevant because we were discussing the team’s trajectory when Mario arrived, not Manny’s full-season record.

How many games do you think we win in 2021 without Rambo and Harley. Genuine question.

I don’t know, probably fewer. How many games do we win in 2024 without Cam Ward? Every team looks worse when you remove its best offensive players.

Joe Yearby is better than Dalvin Cook

Lol I would’ve said Brandon Harris is better than Patrick Johnson back then. Not bc I actually believe it but bc when I start seeing too many ppl or posts on this board glazing players at other schools it ****es me off.

I hate the constant Jeremiah smith glazing on this board just the same. So did I really believe Joe Yearby was better than Dalvin Cook?... no. But Cook chose to play for FSU so it was **** him. I’m riding with the one who chose to play for Miami .

Oh, Cam saved our *** in 24 (and changed the entire program).

But that 21 roster SUCKED. I don’t think that’s hindsight or subjective, it was obvious at the time. TVD was propped up by just throwing it deep to Rambo and it was pretty clear from the jump imo.

And that’s kinda my point. Our best offensive players were both undrafted receivers. Being an undrafted receiver away from potentially a 3 win season is a massive indictment on a roster.

After all this back and forth i'm not sure what the point is anymore.

Worthless is a subjective word that I did not use. I said they objectively weren't worth keeping, based on Mario's style of play and how quickly he flipped the roster.

Mario left Lanning the keys to a conference contender and chose to take the rebuild at Miami head-on, without concern for how it looked early on. Pointing to 5-7 isn't the indictment against Mario you think it is when he's coaching for National Championship 3 years later. It comes off like cherry-picking for criticism.

I hear ya. NFL draft status isn’t the sole measure of college production, and turning their absence into a hypothetical three-win season is speculation. The actual team went 7-5 and finished 5-1 on the back end. I mean I get that it wasn’t elite, but it wasn’t so devoid of talent that Mario going 5-7 was inevitable. According to 247 he had a top 12 roster. Anyway, certain people look to start trouble with people who raised legitimate concerns because they can separate their non-objective fandom from objective facts.

I don’t think it’s an indictment of anything today. I wouldn’t even be discussing Years 1 and 2 if one of your colleagues in the Holy Church of St. Cristobal Dead Horse Beaters Society hadn’t revived the argument to criticize people who had legitimate concerns at the time based on the results on the field and the coaching hires.

These dudes are something else. They go on a mope hunt starting the **** looking for mopes to castigate who questioned Mario’s performance in years 1 and 2 and then when you stand up to it and explain the facts of the performance - the record, the decisions, the staff hires - they cry that you’re cherry picking and not bowing because he was way better in years 3 and 4.

No ****.

I did I think that talent rating is absurd! That is why I’m saying the proof is what was drafted that year.

his talent level and the cumulative stench Manny left was unmatched!

I don’t want to run this over though. I admit he failed with the coordinators and game time management at first, but to even insinuate the situation was remotely close to the program Lanning had in place and to compare them at the time was-is asinine!
